This is really neat. The campus used to have a mini-zoo of sorts...we had goats, peacocks, that kinda stuff...but that's not there anymore...We still have a huge duckpond, tho, and that area is the prettiest area on campus...they have this Japanese bridge on it...the only thing about it is, the pond is fenced off so you can't go walk on that bridge...it's really pretty to look at, tho.
Very, very pretty. :)

The indoors swimming pool...I hate it. It sucks. Somebody painted two murals in this area; one that you can see in this picture (the whales one) and another one on another wall taht's not in the picture...And there used to be a diving pool by the whale mural, but after a few kids got hurt on it, they took it out. :(
And there's a hot tub that you can see (by the glass door over there). The hot tub sucks, too. People are always overcrowding it and making it flood into the pool. :cuss:
I wish my old high school had more pictures available. Used to have a crush on one of the guys from the water polo team, and my friends and I would go watch them practice in the afternoons.

Awwww... We never had a swimming or water polo team...it would've been neat, though. :) I bet if the HS I went to also had an indoor swimming pool, a lot of guys would have been there.

Aww, that's too bad! I thought maybe they did. Oh yeah, you would've seen a lot of them in there. All the guys would hang out and we'd talk to them, but we had to be careful and not get them in trouble.
PZelda 03-14-2004, 01:43 AM I used to come out of that building every day as I was leaving for my classes at the public HS...This is one of my fave buildings on campus; it was built in 1912 (I think), so it is really pretty on the inside... A few years ago, something happened to the cement that made the bricks on the right banister fall out, so you can see where I pointed to it in the pic...but other than that, the building is in great shape. Next to it is the red building you guys saw a pic of yesterday...And going along...Behind it is the gym building, and behind it is the swimming pool building (another arrow pointing to the door). :D
Whoa, that was a mouthful. Here's the pic.

Another angle of the same building. You can see the tennis court...God, I hate the tennis court. My PE teacher used to make us go out on the court at 8 in the morning (that's usually when I had PE  ) and make us run around the court...BRRRRRRRRR cold...

My school did have a tennis court but I didn't see many people in it. Our school was mainly a football school. We used to have pep rallies out by the football field.
PZelda 03-14-2004, 01:50 AM Ooooooooo! I have just one more to show you! Last one, I promise!
I was VERY fascinated with this...A long time ago, the school had this huge building, the Old Main...I thought it was the most beautiful building the town has ever had...A couple of years ago, they had someone paint a mural of the Old Main on one of the buildings...1892 is when it was built and 1975 was when they tore it down. :crying:

Seriously, that is a beautiful campus! My old high school isn't very old at all, only built in the mid-60s. The other high school, our rival, has been around a lot longer. Gotta be as old as yours.

Sounds like my school. Football is big down here, so everything revolves around the team. We used to have pep rallies that would start in the boys gym, then we'd go into the commons and a day or so before the game, we'd gather out by the field to have a bonfire.

The deaf school is VERY big on basketball. Only thing is, the team also sucks...Before January of last year, they hadn't won a single game since 1999.

Ohhh yeah, I hear ya :D The middle school I went to is pretty neat..There's only one building on the campus, but that building is pretty big and it was built in the 1930's, during the Art Deco period...so it is just the neatest thing on the inside...Not as big but just as fascinating.
The 60's...that's gotta be something. It looks VERY 60's on the inside, right? Besides the other buildings on campus, a bunch more were built in the 50's/60's, and it's so boring on the inside.

That's how I always saw my junior high campus, just had so much character because it'd been around forever. There again, soon as my class left they waited a year maybe, then they tore pretty much everything down to make a new one. Now it looks like crap.. has no character, just bland. :( And the thing is, it looked really nice while we we there! The only thing they worked on was what they called The H Hall, where the math classrooms and auditorium were located.
Yes, you can tell it was built in the 60s, definately. I loved the way it smelled and looked. Nothing too fancy, but it's a great campus. I guess boring would fit it, compared to the older campuses.

I know, tell me about it. ohno: If the people knew back then what they know now about upkeep of old buildings, it would probably still be around and still be in great shape. They had to condemn it in the mid-60's. :(
This time....for sure...this is def. the last picture...After posting the mural of Old Main, I remembered this. After they tore it down in '75, they took away the tower that was there and held on to it until 1983, and then made this memorial area for it, where the building used to sit...They made this thing that you can see to the left of the tower, and they have pictures of the Old Main over the years on one side.

You hit the nail right on the head: History! It's so important that we hold on to that, that we do everything we can to keep these older buildings in top shape for as long as we can. Now they're so busy tearing down something, anything to make way for the "newer and better" stuff. Very sad and unfortunate. :(
How unique, Allison. After looking at all of these pictures, it's hard to say which ones are my favorites...but this has to be one of them.

Yep...I know what you mean...it's the same with the HS that I attended. They finished building it in 1992 in time to open for the 1992-93 school year, so it's just really boring on the inside. For crying out loud, they used grey blocks to build the inside, so it's just...BLAH. The only thing special about it is that there was another existing building that they added on to that was built in the 70's...and you know how the 70's was....SCARY SCARY.

 They'd have every right to be. A friend of mine told me about it before construction began and I was pissed. More than that, I was very sad. Honestly, there was no need (no real need) to tear down so much of that school. There's very little of the original left. Close to the tennis court, they have (I think) two buildings for the 6th grade class. Psh..

EXACTLY. EXACTLY.
I am very glad they've done that to the middle school and the buildings on the deaf school campus...A lot of the buildings don't get used that often anymore, so it's really easy to maintain upkeep...And I heard just recently, they had the middle school building registered on some national historic building registry. I forgot what the name was, but basically what happens when they do that is, once it gets entered, you cannot tear down that building, and you MUST maintain the building very well, which I think is cool.
That area is my fave...but I think my fave building would be the red building I showed you guys last night...I never get sick of exploring in there, plus their museum is quite something. They even saved stuff from when the deaf school was 1st established in 1890.

I don't really keep in touch with any of my teachers from middle school or high school....only that one teacher from middle school and a handful of teachers from the deaf school, since they worked with me so much when I was younger...

TV Party is one of the very first websites I ever found. Spent hours upon hours combing that place! I'm not sure why I never stumbled across Sound America, but after you showed me the link I stuck in my favorites and downloaded a lot of theme songs.
I found them all at once about 4 years ago. I've always liked classic television. I have the book The Complete Directory To Primetime Network and Cable TV Shows. Its a great reference book.

Even though I'm a movie addict, I've always been a classic tv fan. Last time I was at Waldenbooks I saw that book, just never picked it up. Sounds like I'll have to, though.

Oh yea channel 5 in Raleigh always had a movie on Sunday afternoons and on Saturday nights at 11:30 Channel 12 in Newburn had a series called Will C's Redeye Cinema. It had a strange host who introduced the strangest movies I ever saw. Those were the days.

We need those back! Unfortunately, I don't recall any local hosts for those movies, the way most of the country seemed to. There's a website that had loads of pictures of past horror movie hosts, but I haven't been there in a long time. For a while there on Ch 55 we had one on Sundays, guess he decided to quit.

Did you hear that GSN has picked up some of those reality shows to rerun? They're going down the drain.:(
dandelion wine 03-14-2004, 05:25 AM Ohhh, I stopped by that Werewolf tv show site a few weeks ago and downloaded one of the previews. Memories, man. SciFi has gone down the tube over the last 10 years or so, but if they ever bought the rights to air it, they'd be ok in my book again.

It would be a really big treat if we could see it again. The webmaster has it set up so that you can watch each episode, but you have to have a certain program downloaded, and they can take a while to load.

Well I've never wrote any letters to any celebrities either. Allison is lucky. She got to meet her idol.

Its been a lousy 24 hours. On top of my problems, I learned today that my sisters boyfriend was in a serious accident. He was driving a four wheeler without a helmet and now he's in a coma. He broke his back and has some liver damage. My sister was at the hospital this morning and had an altercation with his family. Thank God she wasn't with him when this happened.:(
Oh my god, I am so sorry... please know they'll all be in my thoughts and prayers, and yeah, thank God she wasn't with him. :(
