Dorothy played Aunt Effie on MF, and there have been a TON of people who posted on the MF board saying she died in an accident, had Parkinson's disease or committed suicide. The years vary, too...I've heard 1996 and 2002 as her dates of death. GOD GET YOUR STUPID FACTS STRAIGHT AND TELL ME EXACTLY HOW DOROTHY DIED. It's not that hard! I also asked for CONCRETE evidence of her passing there over two years ago and NOBODY has been able to prove it. That just makes me even more irritated seeing that.

Now that I'm in my 20's, what do we have now? TiVo's, gazillions of channels, being able to fast-forward through a program, WAY TOO MUCH annoying commercials...None of that existed in the 80's. TV was waaaaaaay better back then. Sure, there were annoying commercials back then but they were WAY shorter than they are now. :(

Hell, I'd give anything to go back to the day of cable boxes. At least that's something I remember. I thought the idea of turning your cable on and off was a pretty neat idea back then. And we had one of 'em external caption decoder boxes (captioning decoders are built into TV's now) and if something annoying came on, all I had to do was hit the "ON/OFF" button on the decoder remote. :lol:

I might be biased because their are some good shows on now but I just think as a whole the 70's and 80's had the best shows. the lineups were great. Man, I gave up on The Simpsons forever ago. I can't believe they're going into their 17th season...I can clearly remember when it first debuted in '89. My mom worked at a video store at the time and I remember the hype leading up to the first episode. I saw the episode and then they released that episode to video not too long after that. Since my mom worked at that video store, she was able to rent that episode on video for us, so we could watch it again. :lol: My sis and I went as Lisa and Maggie Simpson, respectively, for Halloween in 1990. :lol:

It did turn into The David Spade Show and I think that did hurt it. I never was a fan of JSM. I stopped watching a bunch of sitcoms. Malcolm In The Middle, Bernie Mac, That 70s Show.... :lol:

There's no denying that the 60's had some excellent TV shows like I Dream of Jeannie, Bewitched, Dick Van Dyke, etc...Plus, they had 30+ episodes per season and runtime of each episode was between 24 to 26 minutes long. By the 70's, that was down to just under 30 episodes/season, altho the runtime was still about the same length. And man, there were some incredibly great shows that decade...

Plus...You didn't have as many channels to choose from back then, which meant smaller numbers of annoying celebs and the like. They were still around, just not in large numbers like today.

:lol: I was in 5th grade when they aired the first episode. I thought it was the coolest show ever and I even had a few Simpsons t-shirts and a talking Bart doll. :lol:

The show was never the same after Ritter died, but it was stiill watchable. I didn't like it when they moved to Fridays cause that was always TGIF night and there weren't any other shows on besides 8SR that I wanted to watch. Back in the 90's when they had TGIF, I watched every show they aired on Fridays. :lol:

Their was something special about that time. My whole family would gather around the tv and watch as a family. I think a lot of families at the time did the same thing.That doesn't happen much anymore. Everyone has their own tv and they watch different shows. Yea their weren't as many channels but the quality was better. Their are a lot of useless channels on my cable lineup these days. :lol:

We did, in the 80's...I'm not positive as to when we stopped using our cable box completely. I know we had to use ours again for a while in 1995 for one reason or another, but it wasn't for long. :lol:

Their was something special about that time. My whole family would gather around the tv and watch as a family. I think a lot of families at the time did the same thing.That doesn't happen much anymore. Everyone has their own tv and they watch different shows. Yea their weren't as many channels but the quality was better. Their are a lot of useless channels on my cable lineup these days. :lol:

Some wicked cool extras on there- they had 6 original CBS promos from when MTM debuted in the fall of 1970. It makes me wonder why nobody can do it the simple way now. It always has to be loaded down with graphics and clips. :rolleyes: They just showed Mary Tyler Moore doing a bunch of poses with some pretty neat visual effects in there, which I liked.

Me too. Blazing Saddles is one of my favorite comedies of all time. I've only seen a handful of westerns. Besides Saddles and Shanghai, the only other comedy western I've seen is Support You Local Sheriff with James Garner and I thought it was hilarious. :lol:

I say this at the verge of blowing up at my modem. Today is one of those days I REALLY wish I had an alternative way to connect to the 'net, like dialup. At least you STAY connected. :cuss:

My mom had some guy come by to check out our dishwasher, which broke down last month (we've been washing dishes by hand since it happened) and he said we'd be better off getting a new one. He also said the model we had is from, get this, 1978. Not 1984 like I originally thought. 1978. 27 years before breaking down is one heck of a long time for an appliance. :eek:

Me too. Blazing Saddles is one of my favorite comedies of all time. I've only seen a handful of westerns. Besides Saddles and Shanghai, the only other comedy western I've seen is Support You Local Sheriff with James Garner and I thought it was hilarious. :lol:


Mel Brooks is a comic genius at least in his earlier films. I like Westerns period. I have a slew of westerns on tape. I've yet to see SULS though but if James Garner's in it, it has to be good.

1978. I was starting JH School. Three's Company was competing with L&s for #1, My sister just turned 1. My Dad retired from the military. .......a long time ago. :lol:

Yes he is. My favorite Mel Brooks movies are The Producers, Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstein and Spaceballs. I'm not a big fan of his recent films though.

I like westerns too. It's been a while since I've watched any but I've seen most of the classics.

It airs on TCM every now and then. If I see it on the schedules, I'll let you know. :cool:

Those two movies are some of my faves too. I also like The Wild Bunch, Stagecoach, The Magnificent Seven, and the Shootist.
