I watched excerpts from "Battleship Potempkin" and "The Untouchables." The former one just really moved me. I felt outraged when I saw these Soviet men shooting at these innocent people in the Odessa Steps sequence. As for the clip from "The Untouchables", if I had seen the entire movie in context I would have probably understood what the scene was better. All I could see were people shooting at each other.

The movie that I saw in Cinema class was Memento. That has one of the strangest editings of any movie I have ever seen. It's strange. The usual movie goes from beginning to end. This one was made so that it ran in reverse. Like the first scene of the film is what would be the last scene if the movie was done regularly. This is great because we can get an idea of what it is like for the main character, played by Guy Pearce. As the film went on, I was starting to forget what was going on before. The guy in the film had lost short-term memory and this kind of editing puts us in his shoes. This is a great film by all means. You might have to watch it several times to understand the whole thing.

I'm gonna go see The Cinderalla Story on Friday!!!!

Spiderman 2. It was better than the first one, in my opinion.

I saw West Side Story in cinema class last night and I have to say, it is well-deserving of those 10 Oscars. Best musical I've ever seen. One thing that makes it stand out from others is that the storyline is a drama. It's not a happy-go-lucky setting and premise like you would find in The Music Man. It's also an excellent adaptation of the famous Shakespeare play "Romeo and Juliet." A lot better than the 1996 version of the story starring Leo DiCaprio and Claire Daines. Nothing says perfection better than West Side Story.

4 stars (out of 4)

Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?- Was excellent! Creepy at the same time- the part where Blanche sees what's on the plate and starts spinning around in her wheelchair crying was one of the most disturbing parts of the film.

My Fellow Americans- It was ok, some fun parts- I only really watched because I think Jack Lemmon's great in everything!

West Side story- never seen it before, but I love musicals so I bought the new dvd release, and it is a brilliant movie. Great songs and a great story- I knew it was a loose reworking of Romeo and Juliet, but the ending shocked me.

The critics, IMO, were wrong. Bette Midler was really good in that movie. Nathan Lane, David Hyde Pierce, and John Cleese were funny as well! - and you've got to love Stockard Channing:) All around, I give that movie 3 stars...

I finally got around to renting the Oscar nominated "The Triplets Of Belleville" this weekend, and while I don't think it was as great as the reviewers said it was, it was still an interesting film.

It's nice to see that folks can still make a visually stunning animated film that isn't CG.

Also I rented the remake of "Texas Chainsaw Massacre," and although it really sucked I took some time to write this little ditty for you...

I rented 13 Going On 30 and The Butterfly Effect. 13 Going On 30 was really cute, I had to turn Butterfly Effect off before it gave me any nightmares. I like scary movies, and psychological thrillers, but that movie just went a little too far IMO. I had to turn it off after the ::spoiler:: baby dies in the explosion.

I rented Hellboy. It's pretty good, but I hear its suppose to be part horror or Somthing but it wasn't scary for me at all.

Great movie all around and it shows that not all sequels are inferior. Well worth the wait.

Just bought 3 films; Xanadu, Simone and For the Boys.

Xanadu: Weird weird weird, too much eighties neon lights and outfits! On some level the film works- the music is good, and Gene Kelly's dance with Olivia Newton John, but apart from that the movie is full of cliches (the troubled artist, the old time almost-vaudevillian character played by Gene Kelly), and the plot is muddy as hell- all over the place. The reason I boguht the video (which is the reason I buy most any film) is a) Because it sounded interesting and b) It's an interesting sounding film I the video store didn't have to rent.
However, in saying this- with some good rewrites, more plot, and bigger budget (the Xanadu disco looked awful- on a bigger budget it should look like a palace), and make it a musical where the characters actualy do the singing, plus take away the neon and eightie's costume, a Xanadu remake mightn't be half bad!

Simone: Excellent movie! Watched it right after Xanadu! I thought it was very very interesting too, and a good satire. I saw that it was from the creators of The Truman Show as well- which on one level doesn't surprise me. As much as I love the Truman Show, I think Simone is just as good (maybe better).

For the Boys: Another great film. Lasts a bit long (and Bette Midler's aging makeup was scary- especially in the purple dress!) but it's still a really good at the drama, the comedy, and the music.
