Gilmore Girls is on the WB, and that's not a network channel...that's a cable channel, so that's different.

It seems like I finally hit 20 just yesterday. Now, here I am... 3 months and 2 days til 21. So far, 2006 has been a pretty big year for me. Hands down, the highlight of my year has been my trip to NYC. :D It would be super duper cool if I could add Los Angeles to that list...Hopefully in the fall.

It would also be really cool if I could meet Tara in person in LA. ;) :lol:

Saw a lot of celebrities as usual. I saw Mary Tyler Moore going into her apartment building!! Billy Crystal, Rudy Giuliani and Spike Lee were at the Yankee games I went to. Linda Lavin was signing autographs outside a theater after a play that she was in. Georgia Engel is also in the play, but she must have still been in the building.

Times Square was mostly strip clubs and adult movie theaters - it was like that until about the mid-80's when Mayor Koch decided to clean up Times Square. Out went the smut and in came all the stores and restaurants. Times Square definately wasn't the tourist attraction it is now. People still gathered there for New Year's Eve every year to watch the ball drop though.

The Bronx is still in bad shape :lol: I still wouldn't be caught dead in certain neighborhoods after dark lol I was in a bad neighborhood there just the other night and I hopped right on the subway lol But it was definately worse in the 80's. There was a TV show that was on for a couple years in the 80's called "The Bronx Zoo" about a high school in the Bronx and Ed Asner played the principal. It was pretty accurate to the Bronx at that time. I taped several episodes of it off TV Land when they aired it on weekdays a few years back.

It's funny...You hear so much about Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens and the Bronx...but you barely hear about Staten Island. It's as if Staten Island isn't even part of NYC, since you have to hop on a ferry to get there. :lol:

I remember hearing about the strip clubs and adult theaters...Hookers were also common sights back then, if I remember correctly...And now you don't see 'em around Manhattan...Well, at least I didn't when I was in Manhattan.

If it wasn't for Yankee Stadium being in the Bronx, I probably wouldn't go there at all :lol: The neighborhood around the stadium is pretty bad after dark. All the Puerto Ricans live in the Bronx lol

Staten Island - if you can't get there by subway, I want no part of it :lol: Actually, I've been to Staten Island a few times and there's some pretty decent neighborhoods there.

But, that is the reason I even spent the 40 bucks on the DVD (to see the "funky" 70s fashions); hey, the cheesier, the "better" for me..Ha:lol:

We celebrated in New Jersey (my grand parents owned a summer home in Ocean City); that was the last year I saw my grandpa (he died the falling autumn), and I remembered my dad, rented these bikes for my brother and I..they were so damn coool...(Jesus, I cannot believe I have vivid memories of the 1970s..that..is...so...sicking....):lol:

That sounds like a lot of fun. My Grandma and Uncle and Aunt always used to visit us every summer in the 70's. I remember one 4th of July...I think it was 1978 they visited and their was a big explosion at the fireworks and some people got hurt. That was the last time we went for awhile. :lol: At least you don't remember the 60's. Luckily my memories of them are sketchy at best.

I can remember (as far back) to the year 1972 (when my brother was born). I can also remember the first day of preschool (the fall of 1974); the day I flew in an airplane for the first time (that was 1973); my 4th birthday (also 1973); smashing my thumb, and visiting the doctor, that was 1974; seeing the movie Earthquake (1974); my first boyfriend (that was 1977):lol: ; going to the rollar rink, dancing to Grease and Olivia Newton John albums (yes, folks, albums) that was 1978; having these "groovy" pair of rollar skates (that was designed to look like sneakers) and these "hideous" pink satin, shorts (1978-1979); seeing Star Wars with my mom and dad (1977) collecting Star Wars crap (1977); having a barbie Doll that was able to get a "tan line"..(neat huh!) this was also in the 1970s; and lip gloss (that came in these tin boxes) and came in a variety of different flavors (late '70s), etc. etc...the list goes on:crazy: :lol:
I can remember as far back as 1968. I remember being in the hospital. I was really sick that year. In 69 we moved to Richmond. I remember our old trailor park. We lived right in a trailor park in the woods and a drive-in was right down the street. I remember my dog Pokey. We got her in 1969 and she died a year later. She used to love to jump over the car seat whenever we went to the store. :lol: I remember Kindergarden, though I wish I could forget it. That was in 1971 and in 1972 I remember my first day of 1st grade because all the kids were crying like babies when their Mom's dropped them off. :lol:

:lol: My first memory is from Xmas of 1986, and I was 16 months old at the time. It's pretty vague...my memory gets better when I talk about stuff from 1987 and onwards. I clearly remember being in preschool and this one teacher I had, back in '87. She really was very pretty...she had the prettiest golden blonde hair...very long...Beautiful smile too. :) I also vividly remember the morning of my tonsillectomy, and that was also in 1987. Even though I was just a little kid in the 80's, I remember a lot of that time period. I freaked my mom out when I told her I remembered stuff from when my family went to Disney World, and that was in January of 1990. But in reality, I already remembered stuff from way before then. I can remember when we had a REALLY hot summer here in the summer of 1988...it didn't rain for half the summer. I also remember when ND celebrated its centennial, and that was in '89. I also got my first pair of glasses in '89.

But yeah...I know I'm far younger than you guys. I was just saying. I know you guys feel old reading this post...I feel the same way when Jeremy or some other younger poster say they remember so-and-so from the late 90's... Because ****, I was ALREADY in HIGH SCHOOL in the late 90's, and these posters were still in their first few years of grade school. :eek: :lol:

It makes me want to cry - hard - when I realize people born in 1992 are STARTING high school. The HS I went to keeps referring to us as ALUMNI when I read stuff about my old HS. ****...where did the time go? :eek:

Kindergarden 1975-1976..yeah, I remember the first day too (I was indifferent); in my classroom, there was this toy farm with these plastic animals..I used to stand there and play with that damn thing all day; then in the playground, was this yellow castle, that I climbed up one day (but was too scared to get down) and I cried, because I was afraid that I was going to be up there (all day) and that my dad was not going to be able to find me, and leave me there..Ha; then I also remember, I wore these denim outfit with pearl buttons (so 1976, it was disgusting), and my best friend, her name was Tiffany, and I remembered attending her birthday pary and she had like the BIGGEST Raggedy Ann doll I have EVER seen!; then some brat, threw sand in my eye; and I also peed my pants in front of the entire class, and I got to wear these, (really cool) ruffled underwear home (as a spare). I do not think I learned anything important; the only thing I remember doing was gluing uncooked pasta on a sheet a construction paper:lol:

That summed up my year there. :lol: We had a patio right outside all room where we had tricycles, and climbing bars and what not. We didn't learn anything my whole year there. Our teacher wouldn't even let us use a pencil.

You're lucky that you have a great memory like that. My sister was born in 1982 and she's says that she barely remembers anything from the 80's. She doesn't even remember Ronald Reagan as president. :eek:


I know how you feel because 1992 really does seem like yesterday. Tthe 90's went so fast too. :eek: Its hard to believe its been 16 years since they began. Luckily I get nothing from my old HS. I guess they forgot about me. I got an invite to my 10th year reunion but I didn't hear anything about the 20th.

My wicked awesome kindergarten teacher would have sombody lug in a REAL tree stump or log (she had the stump or log replaced every month), and she would set aside a HUGE box of nails and a few REAL hammers. She would let her students go to town with that piece of real, unfinished wood in her classroom. And you had better believe that many of us got hurt playing with it...I once got a blood blister when I brought down the hammer on my finger :lol:... but the kids kept on truckin' along, filling up the log with nails. Lather, rinse and repeat with a fresh piece of log and a new box of nails.

My kindergarten teacher now teaches 2nd grade at the same school, and she doesn't have a log in her classroom. The current kindergarten teachers also don't have logs in their classrooms either. :lol:
