On Saturday I went to the midnight showing of Die Hard at the local independent art theater. It was fun, with many people applauding and saying some of the lines out loud.

Yesterday, we did a double feature at the movies, seeing In the Heart of the Sea and Spotlight. I liked them both but I really loved Spotlight. It will be a Best Picture contender for sure. It had a fabulous ensemble but Mark Ruffalo really stood out. He is by far one of the greatest working actors.

A newlywed couple are on their honeymoon at a ski lodge and the wife suddenly goes missing. A mysterious woman soon shows up claiming she is the man's wife and the husband vows to the authorities that she's a fraud.

He constantly tries to prove it but the "wife" never slips up and makes him look like the bad guy instead. Great twist ending here.

My daughter treated me to it, this was her Christmas present to me. Will definitely watch it again on the big screen with the wife.

Conquest Of The Planet Of The Apes '72 :thumbsup: (On Blu Ray. Unrated version with alternate ending. This is the first time I've seen this version, I had only seen the 'Theatrical Cut', this version is the original one that test audiences didn't like because the ending was too much of a downer, also some of the bloody gunshot scenes were removed. I prefer the 'Theatrical' ending, mainly because of the iconic moment with Lisa the chimpanzee saying "No.", which was added for the 'Theatrical' to help give the ending a more upbeat feel.
This is my second favorite of the sequels.)

Battle For The Planet Of The Apes '73 :thumbsup: (Blu Ray. Extended edition. The extended edition does have scenes that hint the mutants in 'Battle For' are the ancestors of the mutants in Beneath The Planet Of The Apes.
Though my least favorite of the franchise, it's still not a bad movie. I think its main drawback is the lack of budget, especially when the film leads up to what should have been an epic battle between apes and mutants, but evidently they couldn't afford more extras, so the battle looks more like a small skirmish. Not to mention, because the previous sequel 'Conquest Of' was so violent and downbeat, 20th Century Fox wanted 'Battle For' to be more light and kid friendly.
Also the film has a TV movie feel, it would have fit right in with the Planet Of The Apes tv series.
Paul Williams plays Virgil one of the orangutans, he definitely steals the show.)

The documentary goes into the police corruption scandal in the NYPD 75th Precinct during the 1980s.

Brooklyn, NY was considered the crack capital of the world and the 75th was regarded as the most dangerous precinct at the time. Officer Mike Dowd felt under-appreciated for the amount of work he put in and decided to "make extra cash" from taking bribes.

He eventually recruited more 75th officers into his network and they robbed from drug dealers, burglarized drug dens and provided protection for the drug trafficking gang The Diaz Organization.

Re-Animator '85 :thumbsup: (A dedicated student at a medical college and his girlfriend become involved in bizarre experiments centering around the re-animation of dead tissue when an odd new student arrives on campus.

It may not be a faithful adaptation to HP Lovecraft's short story, but damn I love this movie. Over the top blood and gore, great performances all around, and most especially from Jeffery Combs as Herbert West.)
