Richard Linklater directed this award-winning film that depicts the life of Mason Evans, Jr. from ages 6-18.

Linklater wanted to make a film about growing up and he filmed this project from 2002-2013 w/ most of the same cast and crew. Only basic plot points were given and the cast were allowed to have creative control as it went along.



In the film Mason Evans, Jr. grows up w/ young, divorced parents and is raised by a single mother for most of the time. Linklater's daughter Lorelei plays Mason's sister, Samantha.

This mirrored Patricia Arquette being a young single mother herself and Ethan Hawke being a divorced father.

Patricia Arquette won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress.

Prom Ride '15 :thumbsup: (It's the end of the school year for a group of high school friends. The teens are humiliated and tortured while being held hostage, and soon turn on each other for survival. By the end, we learn that one of the teens had been keeping a secret that played a bigger role in their demise.

I admit, I almost turned it off towards the beginning when one of the guys was asking a girl to the prom and it was done as a cheesy lip-sync musical number. )

I did hear of it, but it doesn't look like anything I'd be interested in.

This was the first time that I saw the 3rd one, Porky's Revenge. I thought it was "Ok", it wasn't as laugh-out-loud funny as 1-2 were. I also saw that it doesn't have a stand-alone DVD release.

Part 2 is great because it picks up the next day. Yeah, Porky's Revenge isn't as good as the first two, and the actors were definitely older, and sadly they didn't get everyone back, but it's still decent enough.

Yesterday my sons took me to see Hot Pursuit! I thought it was really funny. :lol: And my boys liked Sofia! ;) :D

The ensemble cast of comedic actors argued constantly about the film's humor and the director, Kinka Usher who mainly directed commercials, was so burnt out from the experience that he vowed never to direct another feature film. Mystery Men remains as his only directed movie.

I haven't seen the other two. I think that Amy(Alyssa Milano) was portrayed pretty accurately(a sleazy psychopath).But it makes Joey Buttefucco(Jack Scalia) look like a Boy Scout instead of the sleazeball he really is! But the movie was good anyway.:)

Wow ! I haven't seen them in a really long time, but I'm remembering them all to be pretty good. The one that stands out for me as the most accurate would be the one where Drew Barrymore plays Amy. Although she really didn't look like her, her acting was really good! And it showed both her and Joey as being sleazy! The other one had a girl who really looked like Amy, an actress that wasn't as famous as Drew or Alyssa . In this movie the whole thing was blamed on Joey, Amy came out looking like a victim. The opposite of the one with Alyssa!

I'd like to see all three again! ;)

Sondra Locke and Colleen Camp are great as the two young women. Seymour Casell, supposedly because he was unhappy with the film didn't provide his voice for post dubbing so his voice was dubbed by another actor.
The film was remade in 1980 Spain as Vicious And Nude. And has currently been remade by Eli Roth, starring Keanu Reeves under the title Knock Knock. Sondra Locke and Colleen Camp served as producers for Roth's version.)

He confessed to three child murders but is suspected in much more and is said to have sexually abused 100s of children throughout his life. He got away w/ so many because he went after minorities and runaways (street kids).

Steve Miner who directed Friday The 13th parts 2 and 3, directed this. Harry Manfredini who scored many of the Friday The 13ths, created the score for this. And Kane Hodder who played Jason in parts 7 thru X was the stunt coordinator. Also Ronn Carroll who played the the cop at the end of Friday The 13th plays a cop in House.)

Excellent choice, Torgo. I loved this film, too.

That 82-minute version was what New Line Cinema put out in order to obtain an R Rating. A slightly trimmed, but otherwise unrated cut, was released on VHS and laserdisc in Japan. I assume that and the Italian cut were used to make this multi-language version.

Cool. It's a fun movie. The actresses play parodies of themselves. Linnea Quigley is a born again who no longer believes in nudity or cussing.

Scarecrows '88 :thumbsup: (On Blu Ray. Five people heist the Camp Pendleton payroll, kidnap a pilot and his daughter, who are forced to fly them to Mexico. Enroute a double cross has one of the thieves parachute with the loot into an abandoned graveyard surrounded by strange scarecrows. Two of the team jump after their loot and their former partner. Everything happens during the course of one very dark night.

The most interesting thing are the actors that appear- Sean Astin plays the cousin [they even reference The Goonies], also has 4 actors from Growing Pains: Jeremy Miller, Chelsea Noble, Kirk Cameron, and Tracy Gold- Both Cameron and Gold play their characters from Growing Pains. Has 2 actors from Twin Peaks- Dana Ashbrook, and Kimmy Robertson. Both Clu Gulager and James Karen play parts, both were in Return Of The Living Dead together along with the writer/director Brian Peck who played one of the punks in ROTLD. Also veteran actors Bill Erwin and Kathleen Freeman.)

V/H/S Viral '14 :thumbsup: (After watching on the news that an out-of-control ice cream truck is being chased by the police around the upper LA area, killing people and wrecking havoc among the way, a group of teens hell-bent on capturing the next viral video set out to chase the van. Things go from bad to worse when the content inside the van is revealed to be several tapes with bizarre stories, including that of a deranged illusionist who, after obtaining a demon-powered cloak, sets out on a killing spree; a garage scientist that manages to build a machine and open the door to a parallel world, where he and his double find out that their worlds are dangerously different; and the story of teenage skaters who unleash hordes of demonic foes after desecrating a ritual site in Tijuana.

I'm a huge fan of the first V/H/S and found it to be genuinely creepy. The second one I found to be a huge letdown and only liked one of the segments: Safe Haven. But as a whole I felt they were trying to make a found footage movie for people who don't like found footage. I went into Viral expecting to be disappointed again. But ended up enjoying it all the way through. I especially liked the one with the illusionist, it was written and directed by Gregg Bishop who also made the zombie horror flick Dance Of The Dead. Also liked the one with the skateboarders in Tijuana, as I had no idea where that one was going.
Unfortunately I didn't get to see Todd Lincoln's segment which for whatever reason was included after the credits, but the version I watched on Netflix streaming didn't have it.)

The Human Centipede III (Final Sequence) '15 :thumbsup: (Taking inspiration from The Human Centipede films, the warden of a notorious and troubled prison looks to create a 500-person human centipede as a solution to his problems.

Not as good as the first two, but I enjoyed Dieter Laser's crazed performance as the prison warden. Clayton Rohner was good as the unlicensed prison doctor who performs the operation.
Dieter Laser played the evil doctor in the first HC, and Laurence R. Harvey was the villain in the second, here Laurence plays Laser's accountant/assistant.

An independent journalist crew travel to a remote commune where the sister of one of their co-workers is living at. They go down there to document how the people are living and to see why they would willingly move down to a remote jungle where the lifestyle is very different.

The people always praise their leader, named "Father", whom they say has saved all of their lives and now they are at paradise. The film-makers seem skeptical about what the people and "Father" are saying and soon realize it isn't paradise at all.

An independent U.K. film about a man who meets a girl at a bar and then gets physically and psychologically tortured by her after she brings him back home.

It was made on a shoe-string budget w/ the director's fellow grad-student actor friends. The director made the film as a challenge to U.K. censors whom would pass cinema featuring "glamorized violence" while refusing to pass cinema featuring "realistic violence".

The film was banned from the U.K. home video market upon initial release and the ban was later lifted in 2001.

Orson Welles came up with the film's title and was set to play Shelldrake, but died before the film went into production. Tony Curtis took the part because he needed to make child support payments.

I love this movie. The second one for me was a total letdown, the only segment in it I liked was Safe Haven. I did enjoy the third one.

River City Panic '14 :thumbsup: (In the small town of Ottawa, Illinois, where a rumor can spread like the plague and nobody's business is their own, six friends decide to change their weekly routine of watching movies in the basement and talking ****, to go out for a night on the town. On most nights this wouldn't be that taxing. But tonight isn't most nights. With rumors of the police commissioner's alleged disappearance circulating, and the mayor enacting a strict curfew, it doesn't take long for things to spiral out of control and the whole town to go mad. Is it just hysteria? Is it a curse? Is it Abraham Lincoln's fault? Nobody knows. But for the gang, only one thing is certain. They should have NEVER left the basement.

Definitely more comedy than horror, but a fun little movie.)

Stuart Getz plays Bobby, he previously appeared as Charley in the "Oh my nose!" episode of The Brady Bunch. Danny DeVito plays Bobby's boss. The van was designed by George Barris, who created some of the more iconic TV and film vehicles including the 1960s Batmobile.)

Supervan '77 :thumbsup: (A young man takes his friend's experimental solar powered laser equipped van named Vandora on a cross country road trip to enter it in a huge van competition called the Freakout.

George Barris created Vandora, and appears as himself judging one of the van competitions. And probably one of the strangest cameos: Author/poet Charles Bukowski appears in a non-speaking role during a wet T-shirt contest sporting a T-shirt that reads- "Wet T-Shirt Contest Water Boy")

Headless '15 :thumbsup: (In this "lost slasher film from 1978," a masked killer wages an unrelenting spree of murder, cannibalism, and necrophilia. But when his tortured past comes back to haunt him, he plunges to even greater depths of madness and depravity, consuming the lives of a young woman and those she holds dear.

This is a spin-off from the 2012 horror film 'Found'. In 'Found' a boy and his friend watch a horror movie on VHS titled 'Headless' that belongs to the boy's older brother. It's supposedly a very rare late 70's slasher movie. We only see clips of it, because it was popular, it was expanded in to a full length movie. And a very graphic and gory film it is. They also did a pretty good job of making it look like it was made in the 70's.

Before the film starts there's a fake movie trailer for another 70's horror movie titled 'Wolf Baby'...I'd love to see that expanded into a full movie.)

The Punisher (2004)

- Both this movie and Blade movies are ranked the worst violent Rated-R Marvel Comic movies in history, IMO.

- Secondly, both Blade and Punisher have copied the entire violence from the Godfather trilogy movies.

- Finally, I have a feeling that "Dark Knight" director Christopher Nolan may have also borrow this type of strong violence from this movie and applied on the "Dark Knight" movie.

Superhero movies never use "Strong brutal violent godfather action" in it, most of the time.

Territories (2010) on DVD :thumbsup:

Five Americans on their way back home from a wedding up in Canada are stopped by 2 crazed military vets acting as border patrol agents. They are treated as "enemy combatants" after they see one of their tail lights is busted and weed is found in the car.

They are then taken to the duo's makeshift "detention center" and are subjected to intense interrogations and psychological/physical torture.

Trainwreck - I liked it a lot. I don't enjoy many new comedies, but this one actually had several laugh out out moments for me. Amy Schumer showed that she can definitely carry a film.

Ant-Man - Typically not my thing, but I enjoyed it. Paul Rudd was great.

Both are great movies. I'm especially fond of Race With The Devil, definitely one of my favorite Satanic cult flicks from the 70's. Peter Fonda and Warren Oates were friends in real life, their chemistry came through on film. Love that ending.

I hated the ending! But in the 70's a lot of movies ended in a negative way. It seemed to be the trend. But the movie was very exciting. Dirty Mary Crazy Larry ended on that note too. That ending was quite spectacular!

I've seen Susan George in a few movies. She is beautiful.

She was, after all, a girl from swinging sixties Britain.

Eh well, not all endings have to be happy to be good. The idea that they just couldn't get away from it, I find to be effective.

Midnight At Paris

- According to director Woody Allen, all his romantic comedy films, including this one, prove that romance is never perfect in real life, no matter where you are.

- Two fiancees may have their own differences as one of them has high spirits than the other, or one of them has low spirits than the other.

In this movie, I think that's a concern about Gil, who does not have strong spirits as Inez, who has strong spirits. But it turns out Inez's strong spirits may have gone too far beyond her limits on herself and over Gil along the way.
