Wrong Turn 5 '12 :thumbsdow (About the only good thing was Doug Bradley's performance. The make up effects were so bad it was distracting. They tried, and failed miserably at recreating the 3 inbred villains from the original.
Not sure why they couldn't just come up with new characters. Especially Saw-Tooth who in the original was played by 7' 5" Garry Robbins where in this it was played by someone who was probably about 6' if that, it just looked ridiculous. )

The film depicts the infamous Black Sox Scandal in which eight members of the Chicago White Sox conspired w/ gamblers to throw the 1919 World Series.

They were acquitted in criminal court, but were all banned from Major and Minor League baseball for life. The guilt/innocence of the players are still debated today, mainly among "Shoeless" Joe Jackson and Buck Weaver.

Two childhood friends from Brooklyn, NY continue to do "small jobs" for the local mob boss they have idolized since they were kids.

A beautiful documentary film-maker comes to the neighborhood and it is later revealed her goal is to expose the boss' crimes. This causes a riff between the two pals as one of them begins to question everything he's done.

The Elephant Man (1980) on VHS

The film depicts the true story of Joseph (aka John) Merrick and Dr. Frederick Treves.

In 19th century London, Merrick was a severely deformed young man earning his living by appearing in a carnival freak show. Dr. Treves of London Hospital hears of "The Elephant Man" and wishes to examine him after seeing him at one of the shows.

Treves gets Merrick out of the freak show and allows him to stay in his own room at the hospital. They eventually develop a close bond as Treves was one of the first to treat Merrick "like a normal person."

* The Academy Award for Best Make-up was a result of this film. At the time there were no Academy Awards given for make-up effects and many were outraged that the film wasn't going to get recognized for its make-up.

The make-up award was officially announced the following year.

Also, 'Silence of the Lambs' director Jonathan Demme says he wanted to cast Anthony Hopkins as Dr. Lector after seeing his performance as Dr. Treves.

Hopkins didn't understand it and told Demme that Treves was a very good man. Demme responded that he saw Dr. Lector "being a good man locked in an insane mind."

I think I have the first release on VHS! (CBS/FOX - 1984)

Actually, it was Magnetic Video in 1981. It was also on Magnetic Video laserdisc in 1982.

Magnetic Video (1977-1982) is easily the most important home video company, as they were the first. They began by releasing 50 films from Fox in 1977. Without it, Home Video would not be where it is today. May God forever bless Andre Blay for creating it. The company was folded into 20th Century Fox Video, and today, it is known as 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment.

Speaking of Magnetic Video, since there are some Horror fans here, I thought I'd mention this: The very first Horror film ever to be released on a home video format (Magnetic Video to be exact) was 1958's Blood of the Vampire. The VHS release was in 1978, under license from Viacom.

In Broad Daylight (1991) on VHS

This is a true crime tv-movie that depicts the events surrounding the unsolved murder of small-town Missouri resident Ken McElroy during the early 1980s.

McElroy had a reputation for being the town bully as he was accused of harassment, burglary, cattle rustling..., but was able to escape his various charges. He was finally arrested and charged with the attempted murder of the elderly general store owner after a petty dispute.

McElroy remained free on bond while appealing his conviction as the small-town residents finally had enough of his antics. He was gunned down inside his pick-up truck in front of his wife when they left the local tavern. The murder happened in broad daylight in front of about 50 people and nobody claimed to have seen anything.

* The film is not released on DVD.

I've seen that Doc. before a few weeks ago. Good doc.

In the doc. they mention cable channels like HBO and USA Network that would often showcases these kinds of movies late at night. Torgo, did you ever stay up late to see them on those channels? When USA Network would show them, they would often edit out the explicit stuff, or replace them with alternate footage.

A side-note, I've seen Sorority Babes (one of two movies the three girls starred in, Nightmare Sisters being the other). Also a good film.

I watched Commander USA's Groovie Movies on the weekends, and did record horror movies off the movie channels, but by the time Up All Night was on the air I was renting the films. I do remember watching Satan's Cheerleaders which I think aired on Up All Night and the nude scenes were blurred.

I've seen most their films from the 80's and early 90's. Have many on DVD, and VHS. I've always been a big fan of the cheesy 80's horror flicks. I have Sorority Babes, and Nightmare Sisters on DVD. The commentary with the director, and Brinke and Michelle on Nightmare Sisters is entertaining, too bad Linnea wasn't a part of it though.

An FBI agent goes on a downward spiral after his girlfriend is killed by a serial killer targeting law enforcement officers. He decides to go to an isolated rehab clinic that specializes in treating law enforcement officers.

* The film was completed in 1999, but wasn't released until 2002. Universal sold the distribution rights to DEJ Productions after sitting on it for a few years.

The original title of the film was D-Tox, but DEJ renamed it Eye See You for its limited theatrical release.

Dead End '03  (For the past 20 years, Frank Harrington has grudgingly driven his family to celebrate Christmas with his mother-in-law. This year, he takes a shortcut. It's the biggest mistake of his life: The nightmare begins. A mysterious woman in white wanders through the forest, leaving death in her wake. A terrifying black car - its driver invisible - carries the victims into the heart of the night. Every road sign points to a destination they never reach. The survivors succumb to panic, to madness; deeply buried secrets burst to the surface, and Christmas turns into a living hell. )

Silent Night Deadly Night '84  (A young boy watches his parents killed by a thief in a Santa suit. He spends his youth in an orphanage, his mind is further bent by an ironhanded Mother Superior. He gets a job at a local toy store, where he finally snaps when he is required to wear a Santa suit, and goes on a killing spree that leads him slowly back to the orphanage. )

Crystal Lake Memories: The Complete History of Friday the 13th '13  (7 hours long so I didn't watch it in one sitting. They go into great detail about all the films in the franchise including Freddy VS Jason, and the remake, and I liked that they even included the TV series.

Cory Feldman narrates, but there are moments where you could tell he was trying to do a narration voice.
Some of the interviews were carried over from His Name Is Jason, not complaining though, there was still a lot more new material used than old so it wasn't bad.
It would have been cool if they had a separate section for all the out- takes/deleted footage that was shown during the docu.)
