Torgo 03-08-2014, 12:09 PM The Meateater '79  (The film is bad, but extremely entertaining. A family reopens a movie theater and soon discover it's dark secrets as people are killed off.
From what I've read, the director ran out of money, and was then helped to finish the movie by the California Pork Board, which explains the hilariously obvious product placement plugs- one being the family singing the Oscar Mayer wiener song.
The director himself wrote a comment on IMDB saying that they supposedly made it bad on purpose and purposely hired the worst actors they could find. I have a feeling that's just the director trying to save face, then again other films he has made are actually good, including Purple Haze '82.)

This was one of the first releases from MGM/UA Home Video, succeeding the former MGM/CBS and CBS Video labels. The early releases from those labels were cool-looking with the oversized boxes.
The way films are mastered to video have certainly changed. Back then, they would just take low quality copies, rather than the original camera negatives, or even anything close to that. Sometimes, you would even see a cue mark on the top-right corner of the screen, to signify the end of a reel.

MacLeaper 03-19-2014, 01:25 PM Finally watched "Mr. Baseball" on VHS recently. It's a sweet movie, but there is a barrage of foul language in the movie, along with a number of locker room scenes that I didn't really care to see. (I'm sure some of the female viewers were titillated, of course though.)
I don't think I would ever watch it again, but it did spark an interest in Asian culture for me (well, I have an interest in all cultures in general), but for that night, I decided to continue with Japanese-themed depictions and so followed up with "Big Bird in Japan" (1989 Sesame Street special) and one of my favorite episodes of "Quantum Leap"- "The Americanization of Machiko".

Must have been an analog Cable TV broadcast, from either HBO, Cinemax, The Movie Channel, or Showtime.
Speaking of which, it also seems that commercial-free Cable TV broadcasts, and Network TV broadcasts from the 1970's and 1980's, are the best ways to find the original opening logos from movies that are nowhere else to be found. For example, here is a 1980 HBO airing of Rocky II, with the correct United Artists logo.

If you watch the end credits, it says that there is a visual book version with lyrics from Avon Books.
I actually have read the book before, but I have never owned it, unfortunately The book features lyrics for the soon-to-be-cut-from-the-film Hey You, and photos of the scenes from the song (most of which were re-cut into Another Brick in the Wall Part 3). Roger Waters said that the reason he decided to cut Hey You, was because he felt it made the film too depressing.
However, there is no The Show Must Go On in the book, or the film. I'm guessing there never were plans to include it. But if it was included, it probably would have had the extra lyrics from the live versions (" Do I have to stand up, wild eyed in the spotlight...").

* Jamie Lee Curtis bashed the film in a 2007 IGN interview:
"That's a piece of **** movie. It's an unbelievably bad movie; just bad from the bottom. There's a scene where I'm running away from this alien and I actually hide under the stairs.
I come down some stairs and then duck up underneath them and I'm quivering and this big thing comes down the stairs and I'm freaking hiding under the stairs! This is something that can open walls of steel and I'm hiding under stairs!
It was maybe the only time I've known something was just bad and there was nothing I could do about it. I just do the best I can and there have been bad movies that have been wildly successful and great movies that have tanked, so you never know.
It was an independent precursor to all of these Marvel comics movies. I thought maybe that fan base would show up for it, but no."

This was originally released as a 3-hour television miniseries, but they edited it into a 90-minute film for the VHS. It is not released on DVD so, as of now, this is the only official version available for home media.
Four armed members of the Palestine Liberation Front took over an Italian cruise line, Achille Lauro, on October 7, 1985 when it docked in Egypt. The purpose was to demand the release of fifty Palestinian prisoners being held in Israel.
The production was filmed on the actual Achille Lauro ship and the hostages were heavily involved with the making of it as they told the cast/crew what happened during the crisis.
Burt Lancaster plays the only casualty of the hijacking, a retired, wheel-chair bound elderly man, who was shot and then thrown overboard.
It also featured the final role of murdered actress Rebecca Schaeffer, released posthumously after her death in 1989.
