I always thought it was awesome. My friends and me used to do the guys all the time. I was George Wendt because he is a big Chicago guy like me. :) :)
Anna Karenina 09-17-2016, 11:40 PM It's a very sensual beautiful song! ;) "You know who" was 22 or 23 when it came out! I bet he made his girlfriends quiver! :happyface He makes me quiver and get tingly just watching him on TV! :)
Okay, speaking of tingling, my mom and I are watching "American Gigolo" on Movies! with a young hot Richard Gere where he is seducing a lot of older women and my mom cracked me up with this old school line about the younger man/older women situation. I can't believe it came from her, she is so genteel...she realizes how sexist it sounds but what the hell?..;)
"They won't swell, they won't tell and they are always grateful"... :D
Svenfan1234 09-17-2016, 11:44 PM The movie got done a few minutes ago! Already!

Yes, we could only take so much of Gere's self indulgent pouting in character before we switched over to an SNL repeat with Larry David nailing Bernie Sanders...

1960'sTVfan 09-18-2016, 12:13 AM Al Martino, has a very velvety, warm voice. I also love his rendition of "Spanish Eyes". It gives me the "quivers and the shivers"...:happyface
"To The Door of the Sun" is a very, evocative, melodic ballad. I had never heard of that one before. I am going to listen to it once again. Thanks so much, Lee!
You're welcome, I'm glad you like that song also.
Now for a change of pace, legendary 1970's hard rock band Starz has always gotten high marks from me for the superb melodic tunes they wrote. One good example is their song "Last Night I Wrote A Letter" from their Coliseum Rock album. Here it is:

And with that, I wish everyone good night.

The Emmy Awards are tonight. I bet Valerie Bertinelli will once again be snubbed.
(By the way, Michael Lembeck and Pat Harrington each have one).

I feel so bad for the lady who got that singer's letter but I enjoy the hard driving percussion beat and the guitar solo at the end. I wonder what she did that tore them apart? I need more of an explanation! He ain't no Shakespeare as he said but why did he walk away, because the relationship scared him or because he was tired of her? I love hearing about the male perspective in love songs.
This song is about a man who can't go for that, no can do. What can't he go for? He never spells it out, LOL. I guess we have to fill in our own blanks...

I think Valerie Bertinelli gave many Emmy worthy performances over the years, maybe her day will come and she will get one too...
She seems to have stopped acting though, has a second life as a host. She could get awarded for that as well...:)

Listening to the lyrics of the song, I believe the guy walked away because he was scared, also because he felt he wasn't good enough.
Here's another good tune from Starz, this one is a scorching rocker titled "No Regrets":

1960'sTVfan 09-19-2016, 10:41 AM Regarding that Starz song I posted- "Last Night I Wrote A Letter", I gave it another listen and I believe the lyrics tell the story of a guy who met a girl he really liked but was afraid to be in a relationship because he was having too much fun playing around and wasn't ready to commit to just one woman. LOL, at least that's the message I think the songwriter was trying to get across.

That's a good analysis, Lee.
As an aside, I can imagine those rock stars from today and yesterday had so many chances to play around that they couldn't just be contented with one woman.
The rare exception I can think of would be Paul McCartney who loved his Linda to distraction. I loved their love story and how devoted they were to each other through thick and thin.
Eddie Van Halen and Valerie Bertinelli were very much in love (and weirdly looked a lot alike in their wedding photos) but they married way too young and didn't really know each other per her book. She said she cheated first which I think is probably disingenuous based on all the time he spent on the road. I never really understood his appeal but I can't deny his brilliance as a musician.
She finally found happiness with a regular guy who was a real gentleman and didn't have the same trappings of fame that Eddie had. I am happy for her.
Well that is all from me right now. I have to Beat it!

It'll be "Santa Claus Reveals He's Jewish", with Michael Lembeck as Santa, and Valerie Bertinelli as Mrs. Claus. Special appearance by Bonnie Franklin as an elf.

She's always been a favorite actress of mine, very pretty with a sexy and sultry voice to match. I read a short biography about her on IMDB recently, seems like her personal life was mostly not a happy one, I was sad to read that so I thought I'd show the lady some respect and make her my avatar picture. :eyes:

Thanks, yes she was quite a stunning looking woman. Good actress too, always professional in her roles, it's a mystery to me why she never really rose above "B" movie level status. And it's sad that it seems she never found her real happiness in life. She was married twice, the first marriage ended because her husband committed suicide, and the second marriage ended in divorce after 10 years. I was born several years too late. If I was around during her time, I would have made her happy if she would have been interested. ;)
Bonniegirl 09-21-2016, 01:32 PM She was very pretty! I didn't know who she was, so I googled! Wow,it was tragic what happened to her!:( If it were more modern days ,that doctor would have had a giant malpractice suit or even done jail time! What a creep!

Not familiar with Peg Entwistle, sounds like another tragic Hollywood story. The Hollywood life is glamorous, but there is a lot of pressure and some people cannot handle the pressure.

Hi Sven,
I am here, if you still are. Glad you have a half-day on Friday. How have things been going?
Since we've been on the subject of tragic actresses, I have to add one of my favorites, Gwili Andre! She was a strikingly beautiful woman whose movie career never took off, and her death in a fire is a possible suicide.:(
Alex Cooper 09-21-2016, 09:36 PM And Jean Harlow...taken from the world far too soon!:( :( :(
Alex Cooper 09-21-2016, 09:39 PM And the lovely, gifted comeddienne Thelma Todd, likely a victim of foul play....
Svenfan1234 09-21-2016, 10:07 PM Hi Sven,
I am here, if you still are. Glad you have a half-day on Friday. How have things been going?
Since we've been on the subject of tragic actresses, I have to add one of my favorites, Gwili Andre! She was a strikingly beautiful woman whose movie career never took off, and her death in a fire is a possible suicide.:(
Good!
I know you live in MI---like me---have you ever been to/heard of ArtPrize?

Svenfan1234 09-21-2016, 10:28 PM Can you guys keep a classmate of mine in your thoughts and prayers? I have absolutely no idea what's going on but apparently something is. I'd appreciate it and I know he'd appreciate it.

Yeah, definitely! Any friend of yours is a friend of ours! I'll be sending out good vibes.
How is your other friend, the one who hurt her leg, if I remember correctly?

I honestly don't remember about the leg???
Maybe you're confusing me with Anna?

It's possible. I'm rapidly approaching my twilight years! Soon, I'll be talking to myself in the mirror and addressing myself in the second person!
Bonniegirl 09-21-2016, 11:43 PM Art Prize? Wasn't he a game show host?
I think you are thinking of Good ol' Art Linkletter! ;) :D
Art Prize really would be a good game show host's name though!!! ;)

You had a friend who tripped over a rock or something and hurt her leg , it was bleeding really bad and she had to go to the hospital! :(
I thought that was you that posted about your friend? Maybe I am mixing you up with someone else on here/S.O.?
Anyway hope your friend will be OK! ;)

Sometimes its a healthy self indulgence to have an Ann Romano/Maude Findlay/Alex P. Keatonesque monologue where you talk in the mirror or the off screen shrink and unburden yourself...
Anna Karenina is going to schedule herself some mirror time later on in her bedroom, have a catharsis and then walk back bravely into the party and disco dance with Schneider...

The story of Gwili Andre is a tragic one too. Originally a model, then tried her hand at acting. She was compared to Greta Garbo, a comparision which I think hindered instead of helped her. When she first debuted in movies in 1932, critics gave her harsh reviews for her acting, which hindered her career further. During her brief movie career, she appeared in a total of seven films. At the time of her death, she was living alone and it seems the cause of the fire that look her life was never really determined. It is speculation whether she died by accident or suicide. The fire happened on the day after her birthday, which leads me to wonder if maybe her death was suicide due to depression. :(
1960'sTVfan 09-22-2016, 01:30 PM I found this on You Tube- Here is my girl Anne Nagel starring in the lead role in the 1937 romantic comedy "A Bride For Henry". Her co-star is actor Warren Hull, he was a popular actor during the late 1930's/early 1940's, he was a busy actor during that time.

Halle Berry won an Emmy for playing her in a TV movie.

I saw that movie,it was really good! ;)
I just was on the phone with AT&T for about an hour! Seems it is an internet ,not a computer problem! They say I need a new outlet to plug my motom into cause it isn't getting enough power where it is, but there is no other place to plug it in!! :( So at the moment it's working but it could go down any time! I'm not in the best of moods now! :(

Who is the guy in your avatar?
His name is David Andrew MacDonald. He played the charming but ruthless character of Prince Edmund Winslow on Guiding Light.
He was MY version of Michael Lembeck for quite a long time but when the show got canceled 7 years ago he kind of went out of my mind because he wasn't on TV anymore and I moved on to Dr. Gregory House/Hugh Laurie who had that same effect on me. Then his show went off the air and out of sight out of mind happened again. But for awhile it was real, true love with the both of them!... Before they were in the picture there was the late great Peter Jennings who was just like a Canadian James Bond reading the news...:happyface
Needless to say I have no current hot TV males to drool over...Nobody has caught my fancy in years...maybe Ty Burrell with his handsome goofiness?
Svenfan1234 09-22-2016, 02:59 PM Hey guys
Anna Karenina 09-22-2016, 03:01 PM Despite the weirdness of the situation Phillips and Hutton had oodles of noodles of chemistry... Too bad he died so young what a charming actor he was.

I think I'll have to skip it tonight. I'm pretty tired.I' m all emotional right now! I just watched Fiddler on the roof! Such a beautiful, sentimental movie!! :) I saw it years ago as a little girl, but now I got the full impact!! I love this movie!!! It's sweet, it's sad at times and funny at times, and the singing and dancing are fabulous!!! ;) Paul Michael Glaser, ( Starsky) was in this. He was cute!!! :)
I borrowed this from the library, but I want to buy it I saw Target has it for 10 dollars!!! ;)

Yeah, it is long, but it's a beautiful heart touching movie! I'd like to own it, :) I would watch it when I have time to sit that long and watch, but I'm thinking how fun it would be to have it on in the background listening and singing along with the wonderful songs when I'm doing house chores!:)
After work, during football I'm gonna drink some beer! L'Chaim, L'Chaim to Life!!!!:D
Anna Karenina 09-25-2016, 01:23 PM Fiddler on The Roof, one of the all time greats. My sisters and I used to sing Sunrise Sunset together all the time when we were growing up...:)
Speaking of Jewish themed movies, Goodbye Columbus was on last night with Ali MacGraw at her most beautiful. Except for the crying scenes her acting was actually pretty solid.
I never realized how gorgeous young Richard Benjamin was, ouch! :happyface
I hope all of you are doing well today, my mother isn't feeling so well, we are going to the local walk in clinic this afternoon to see what is going on...

One of the most disappointing movies I ever saw. I really did not like it. When I was 6 or 7, my mother took me to see the original Fiddler on the Roof on Broadway. It was the best show I've ever seen. I sat stoned face through the movie, which was only about 5 years later.
Anna Karenina 09-25-2016, 02:02 PM Hope it goes well.
Thanks so much, Gary. :)
Just trying to get her out of the house is always such an ordeal. :(
But she looks pretty weak and pale and I am hoping her blood test will reveal that she just needs an antibiotic or something.
I will talk to you all later...

Bonniegirl 09-25-2016, 09:24 PM I've seen it before, of course. Being Jewish, I think it's required by law. But if I watched it now I'd probably conk out somewhere between the sunrise and the sunset.
Oh the Sunrise,Sunset song sang by the Papa and Mama was beautiful!!!;) That part brought me to tears ! The wedding scene was beautiful! Now I really want to become Jewish! ;)
Only problem I had with the movie is they couldn't have found a part for ML to be in the movie? He would be perfect, as a cute young towns man or better yet one of the Daughter's boyfriends!;) :D 1971, he'd be 22 or 23!!!
Bonniegirl 09-25-2016, 09:33 PM Fiddler on The Roof, one of the all time greats.
I am really digging this cool weather and can't wait for the presidential debate tomorrow night.
Fiddler on the roof has become one of my favorite movies ! :) I remember seeing Goodbye Columbus! I loved it! Ali McGraw was very beautiful! :)
Hope all went well with your Mom today! Hope she's feeling better!:)
Bert Convy was in a stage production of Fiddler On The roof.;) I wonder if that is the one Babalu saw? I also wonder what role Bert played?
