In an extremely odd coincidence, I am going through all the cases again (in backwards chronological order) and had left off at this one...and then it popped up on a 20/20 episode I was adding to my collection.

Skyler and Jennifer Deleon were quite young at the time and were living in his parents garage with one child and one on the way, were deeply in debt and no way in the world to pay for a luxurious yacht. It was theorized that Thomas, who was a probation officer, would have been suspicious of them from the start, but Jennifer was instrumental in using her children to gain their trust. She is described as being the brains and the main instigator of the whole thing and is also described as being a gold digger.

While the various crimes Skyler has committed are absolutely horrible, he is quite obviously insane and had a HORRIBLE childhood that was filled with constant abuse (both physical and sexual), was what I called tortured, and also introduced to drug use by his father at an extremely young age. He wanted so desperately to become a woman that he attempted to cut off his own penis. His father messed him up very badly and he was easily influenced by his controlling wife, Jennifer Deleon. While he hasn't expressed remorse for his killings, he also has shown no interest in his own safety and has attempted to injure himself.

Skyler was a child actor who appeared in an episode of Power Rangers (one of my nephews was hugely into that show back in the day).

Myron Gardner isn't mentioned in the episode at all, which makes sense since he apparently wasn't involved in any capacity.

Some authorities said that Skyler was so calm and convincing in the beginning that they believed him.

The Hawks' bodies are unlikely to ever surface as they were presumably dumped in one of the deepest parts of the ocean.

Also, Meghan has had only a few blog posts this month and hasn't added any resolved cases at all this month, which is well below the norm. I think the site has gotten to be too much for her and I wouldn't be surprised if she sells it or whatever in the future.

Meghan got miffed at me because she had posted one of her lists about people vanishing from gas stations. I very kindly commented that she had left out Cheryl Ann Scherer who vanished from a gas station while on duty in April, 1979. I thought leaving her off the list was odd indeed, because Cheryl had just been the missing person of the week, for the Charley Project, a short time prior. Anyway, Meghan wasn't very nice about it, poor Cheryl didn't get added to that list to my knowledge. Whatever.

Dateline had this one tonight on a 90 minute episode. Case involving an elaborate scheme involving a man paying someone to impersonate him in an attempt to manufacture an alibi. Definitely seems like the ex-husband murdered her, but the complete lack of blood, physical evidence and a body is weird.

Take it with a grain of salt, but Pash claims that he was aware that Roger was experiencing a personal problem or two and claims that Roger had some bizarre answers to a class assignment involving Freud, but doesn't elaborate on those issues further, citing that he was asked by police not to disclose the info in fear of compromising the investigation. He is completely in the camp that Roger ran away, but like everything else he says, he doesn't provide any facts or even sound opinions to back it up, instead going off on weird tangents.

As I said before, it's entirely possible Pash is innocent. However I, at the very least, find him to be an odd duck.

This case is truly bizarre. A couple thinks they found their missing son badly beaten almost beyond recognition, but dental records confirm that it's a different boy!

He reminds me of Tim Bidner. I see him as crazy, but not guilty. I don't think a guilty person would be so conspicuous, and a sane person would just act differently.

You know, the more I think about it, the more I think she's all ME ME ME ME ME ME!! Because she didn't think of them, she doesn't want them added to the list. She wants to control everything right down to the last detail.

wow, how unfortunate. I can't be entirely sure of what happened, but Yoos seems unlikely to be guilty of criminal trespass, considering he was wearing a reflective vest and has a history of helping people. They questioned him for throwing away napkins?

The first article stated that Yoos had been hitchhiking when he was assaulted in 1984, so that clears up some things. Although the second article doesn't explicitly state it, I think it can be concluded that him being mute and the head injury was a result of the 1984 attack. I wonder if they ever found the perp.

Does anyone remember if this case was featured on a true crime show? I remember a show where a young teenager went missing in the mountains or in a rural area. A teenager was later found, almost dead, but it wasn't the one that had gone missing. It seems like the case was never solved, but there was suspicion of a serial killer with a cabin in the area. It's been many years since I've seen the episode, so some of my details might be wrong.

I guess it isn't the Christopher Harvey case?

If you have researched this case, I would love to hear anything you found. I can't find much available online. I have access to some databases, but I don't think they have newspapers from the early 80s. I will find out.

I'm glad he recovered, but I wish we knew some of the details about his beating. Was he mute before the attack? Could he have been attacked by the someone involved in Christopher's disappearance?

I hadn't heard of Roger Ellison before this post. But John Pash, based on the WS posts, is condescending and self-promoting. The way he talks to people is ridiculous. Why are the other posters, who he is insulting, pandering to his claims? Maybe because they want him to keep posting information?

That actually happens all the time over there. Most of the comments I read over there are "thank you for the post" comments that aren't useful for discussion purposes. I don't know what possesses people to keep doing that. Either they're trying to raise their post count or are trying to feel self important. Either way, it's annoying and it's one of the reasons I don't visit there often.

Cases like this hurt my heart." are what push me over the edge. I mean, we all want the missing person to be found, why make one comment after another expressing that sentiment?

Pash is so full of himself, it's almost funny. Apparently someone said he had a pet alligator and he puts them in their place for starting a rumor:
Are you ready to apologize to me for…BEING SO WRONG??
He then informs everyone that he has always had large dogs- 2 German Sheperds, 1 Black Lab, and 1 American Domestic (a mutt).

As if readers will be fascinated by everything about him. What a nut. So glad I found this thread bc I love reading the Charley Project website--for all the wrong and right reasons.

Snipped. When I read those cases I automatically think, no wonder the person took off or committed suicide or lived a dangerous lifestyle--no one really cared about them at home. Then I feel bad for being so judgy, it's not like I know all the details or what the family attempted. Those are bothersome though.

I too, have always been intrigued by Jan's case. I tend to think the father of her baby was married, or attached somehow, and that was why she refused to name him. Maybe she went to meet him on the night she vanished, then he did away with her because she/pregnancy were in the way. If this wasn't the case, who's to say the baby that turned up later wasn't Jan's? In the 70's you could only determine parentage by a blood test. Maybe they made a mistake, who knows.

This Daman Smoot seems like a good suspect, but why would he break into and rummage the house he was living at? The ex girlfriend could have hired someone, or it could be somebody else altogether. The apparent lack of blood, signs of a struggle, etc is also weird.

Now that I'm caught up, wow this thread is anti-Meaghan. I guess I have more sympathy for her because I've suffered from mental illness as well. Asking her neighbor's help with dishes may seem odd, but imagine your own brain blocking you from doing simple activities of daily living. If she had an outward disability people wouldn't question assisting her at all.

That being said, I do wish she would open up the Charley Project to more people. That got me thinking-- we shouldn't wait for Meaghan to change her mind (because it's probably not going to happen, and that's okay! we need to respect what she wants), but rather, start a new hybrid of the Doe Network / Charley project that is more a Wiki style format of missing people.

I haven't embarked on something like this before, but I'd be interested to see what other people think between here and reddit.

When there are missing people out there that need to be put on the site and she keeps talking about jamming as many as possible of a certain type of food in her mouth (crackers, for example), it just makes a person want to put their foot through the wall after time.

This is downright sad, creepy and mysterious. Young man traveling from northern Washington to Oregon gets lost in the middle of the night and then vanishes with his truck.

Here's an interesting article as a follow-up. Apparently, the truck was later found, vandalized. His mother is a very admirable woman, going to Herculean efforts to find him and being responsible for sending tens of thousands of care packages to troops in Iraq. Btw, I believe the Christmas store she is talking about in the article is actually Bronners, which is in Frankenmuth, MI and not Flint. It is the world's largest Christmas store. (I've been there and it's massive). It's a tourism hot spot and was apparently the inspiration for her Washington state store:

He tried to sue Facebook founder Mark Zuckerburg for billions of dollars by claiming he helped create fb and they had worked together on a previous website.

Robert Rivera is one of the biggest pieces of trash I've ever heard about. The child abuse ones get to me the most. There's really nothing worse than somebody who harms a child. I remember reading this on the CP site some time back.

I think they're still alive. The tampering with the ankle monitor is what sealed it for me. I'm betting they're out of the country.

Apparently, Catherine was wearing in upwards of $80,000 worth of jewelry at the time of her disappearance. I'm not sure I buy either of the two scenarios presented. Their car was a custom Lincoln Continental and no doubt very distinctive looking, so I can't imagine a local robbing them and driving it about town. As for the other theory, it's doubtful quicksand could swallow a whole car. But what did happen to them? I really admire the dedicated diver who went out looking for them every year for decades afterwards.

Someone on Websleuths found an article about this case from a few years ago. That article discusses a 1978 article (which I've been unable to find) where it states that her father was unusually protective of her and reported her missing when she didn't arrive home at 5:15 to go to her lessons, just three hours later. The mother apparently saw Maria leave on her bike with her clothes and cash in tow and said nothing. It also says that the teenager who saw her at the bar and told her to go home is "unidentified". The last apparent reported sighting of Maria was August 27, 1976. A bar owner said he recognized her as a girl who had been in there fighting with another teenager named Donna. I don't know if Donna has ever been conclusively identified or questioned.

True. I just think there's some stuff we're not being told here. I have a feeling Maria's behavior may have been more out-of-control than what's written on her.

I'd really like to know more details about the bar sightings, particularly the second where she allegedly fought with a girl named Donna. Who was Donna? Who instigated the fight? What was it about? Was anyone hurt? I have a feeling such details are probably lost to time.

Apparently, Catherine was wearing in upwards of $80,000 worth of jewelry at the time of her disappearance. I'm not sure I buy either of the two scenarios presented. Their car was a custom Lincoln Continental and no doubt very distinctive looking, so I can't imagine a local robbing them and driving it about town. As for the other theory, it's doubtful quicksand could swallow a whole car. But what did happen to them? I really admire the dedicated diver who went out looking for them every year for decades afterwards.

Yes, the age definitely seems off. I would have guessed he was about 12 or 13, 14 tops. Interestingly, I think Shannon Green, the girl whose disappearance is thought to be linked to David's, looks older than 16.

Regarding Disney, here are some fun facts: Disney, as you may know, owns ABC. Back in the mid 90's, they made practically every show on their roster do an episode featuring Disney theme parks. Roseanne protested, but couldn't get out of it. She quickly got her revenge, however, by doing an episode shortly thereafter where Johnny Galecki is employed by a theme park with ultra-strict rules and gets brainwashed into this bright, cheery, happy-go-lucky guy (which was completely out of his character). One guess as to which theme park they were referring to. There was also a delightful little program called Second Noah that was forced to do a show there despite the fact that the show was based in Busch Gardens in Tampa (a direct competitor of Disney. I have all the episodes of that show and made and introduced a set to the Trading Post a decade ago.)

I would have to disagree. He gave most of her possessions to charity, without even allowing the family a chance to access them or ship them to the family. That's highly suspicious. I'm sure investigators also would have liked to seen those items.

With regard to Mark Jackson I think it was Steven Lorenzo and his accomplice Scott Schwiekert. I think Lorenzo is a serial killer and despite the fact that he was active serial killer in the last decade, no one talks about him because his victims were men, they were gay and all were raped (which until very recently was a taboo subject). Schwiekert's affidavit on the Murderpedia site is chilling it was apparent to me reading it that Galehouse and Wacholz were not his first victims.

Lorenzo lived closed to Drake towers and I don't doubt had come across Jackson and the other men mentioned in the Charley link in the Tampa Club scene.

Baffling one. 17 year old boy with no history of problems starts acting strangely and mysteriously, including pretending to still be employed at his job despite being fired. Vanishes while walking from friend's house to his house and he left his car behind for some reason. Just about every scenario is possible here, but the parents didn't publicize his case for whatever reason. He was talented in soccer and could have landed a scholarship.

I had never thought of that angle, but it's definitely a possibility. What I'd like to know is what was the motive for the first friend getting killed? I mean, these 4 friends are just riding along and all of a sudden, one of them shoots another? Although considering Keys' sketchy past, I wouldn't be surprised if he fled to avoid getting tied to the crime and just decided to stay away.

I was just in Yosemite last weekend. As massive as the park is, this is still incredibly bizarre. There are tons of people in Yosemite, especially in the summertime when she disappeared. I find it really hard to believe that no trace of her would be found.

I've heard a lot of people bash Paulides' 411 series and claim a lot of cases are obvious bear attacks/exposure. As for this case, Yosemite National Park does have bears, however there have been absolutely no reported deaths/even serious injuries from bear attacks in the park. Bears tend to steer clear of people (Yellowstone would be an entirely different story). Also, I think more of her belongings would have been found. I suppose it's possible that she fell or something and eventually died of exposure, but I still find it perplexing no trace of her was found except for the camera lens.

As for foul play, I suppose it's possible she was lured, maybe into a cabin or someone's vehicle. Still, how would that person get away with it with so many people around?

I came across a series of articles and photographs in PDF form on the net. It didn't give a time, but I got the same impression as you: that it was early evening. Not too late.

Here's another one: Man decides to make 300 mile round trip to his workplace to pick up his check on his day off. 15 miles before home, his vehicle is found stuck in the snow AND out of gas. I read the indictment. It doesn't give much by way of details. What I DID see, however, is that the State named two women as witnesses who are incarcerated in jail.

My guess? She told the two women that she killed her husband with a baseball bat and they came forward.

The Reinert case has always haunted me. I can't even think about what those poor children must have endured. The hunch about the stone marking their resting place is intriguing, and quite possibly correct. It makes you want to scour the woods to find the stone. However, with the many, many miles of forests in the northeast and the passage of 37 years, chance of finding the site are slim. I'm sure someone or something has knocked that stone over by now.

Jay Smith's possession of sedatives/other drug paraphernalia and Susan being killed by an injection of morphine is no coincidence. The man was guilty as sin.

She was classified as a special needs child because she had a learning disability and hearing problems, and her parents received a subsidy for her care from the North Carolina Department of Social Services. Erica's father, Sandy Parsons, and mother, Casey Parsons, were subsequently imprisoned for fraud because they had collected over $12,000 in benefits for Erica after she was no longer in their custody.

In September 2016, Sandy lead police to Erica's skeletal remains, which were buried on a dirt road in a remote area between the towns of Pageland and Mount Croghan in South Carolina. Authorities have yet to determine the cause of death.

There's no way they aren't all dead, but they're still listed because their bodies have never been found.

There was a breakthrough recently that proved she was one of the Long Island/Gilgo Beach Serial Killer (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Long_Island_serial_killer)'s victims, but they still don't know who she is. I've been following the case and the serial killer since I heard about them last year, but there hasn't been much progress due to difficulties and interference from Shannan Gilbert's family. (I don't think Gilbert was killed by the LISK, but her family refuses to believe it.)

I think it's highly likely the true number of victims of Ted Bundy will never be known.

His car was in for repairs so he arranged for a co-worker to pick him up from a nearby school (Jason wasn't confident giving directions to his house). After awhile, Jason's boss called the house to find out where Jason was. Jason had never arrived at the school to meet his ride and there was no surveillance footage of him either. Jason was last seen by his younger brother and a neighbour bringing in the garbage. As far as I know, there were no sightings, confirmed or otherwise, of Jason after that. Somewhere between the short walk to the school he vanished.

What gets me about this case is that Jason did not have the usual risk-factors of a missing person. He was a 19 year-old, 6'2" young man who disappeared in broad daylight. He had no problems with crime or antisocial behaviour. He was just your average teenager. People have posited all kinds of theories down the years: that he was victim of a car accident and his body was dumped, or that he planned his disappearance and committed suicide, but none of these theories seem to hold much water.

At first, I suspected someone at the workplace. Primarily because they were the only ones who knew of the change to Jason's schedule. It was also the perfect opportunity to target him while his car was out of action. There was also the eerie coincidence that Jason was due to start a new job the week after he vanished. For what it's worth the police investigation cleared his co-workers.

Personally, I think that he was targeted by a sexual predator. An older male who lived in the area and caught Jason as he made his way to the school. Perhaps he lured Jason into his house under false pretenses and attacked him. Jason was said to be quite a friendly, helpful kinda guy, and I suspect that whoever killed him took advantage of that unsuspecting nature.

Another odd coincidence is that reportedly another 19 year-old by the name of Samuel Sherman vanished from the same neighbourhood the following month. He left for a job interview one morning and never returned. Unfortunately there is a paucity of info about Samuel Sherman. There isn't even so much as a photo ID. Some theorize that he may have just been a young drifter passing through the area, but without substantiation the similarities of the two cases cannot be ignored.

It's been sixteen years since Jason disappeared and in that time there hasn't been a single lead or tip. It's as if he simply vanished into thin air on that fateful morning.

I'm somewhat familiar with Jason's case. It's heartbreaking.

Coming up on the one year mark of Shannah Boiteau going missing in a manner I can't believe was quickly resolved.

Shannah Boiteau and her boyfriend were traveling from Wisconsin to California on June 22nd of this year when the couple were passed by a cop car near St. Cloud, Minnesota. This seemed to spook Boiteau and she suddenly jumped out of the car and raced into the brush and woods that lined the highway. It is thought that she was concerned that she was going to get in trouble for violating her parole as she had been recently drinking. Shannah has not been seen since.

An independent witness saw Boiteau run into the woods, so her boyfriend is not considered a suspect in her disappearance. She was not wearing shoes at the time she ran into the trees and her purse was left behind in the car.

It would be very interesting if the advances in forensic science that we have nowadays could have been used in this particular case way back when. I wonder how much of that evidence still exists and if any of it could be retested for any DNA profiles.

I posted this one on the first page, but it's definitely a worthy one to bring up again. I also don't buy Gein as the killer. It doesn't fit his MO at all. I think we're looking at a sexual predator(s) who was either after Evelyn or the usual baby-sitter.

Different victim, I believe. The poor lady in the footage is Brenda O'Connor. Similar case, though. Her partner Lonnie Bond and their baby were both killed by Lake & Ng, while Brenda was forced to be their sex slave until she outlived her usefulness.

I remember a case back in the 60s/70s about two boys who were camping with their families. They went off to explore the WW2 bunkers and were never seen again. Most likely they got lost, fell into a crevice or something and died. What was more surprising to me is that the families held a memorial service only a few months later. Different time, I guess?

Yeah, I remember when they found him. In Wyoming, right? In any case, i remember his story pretty vividly and actually had watched a TV show about him in the week or so before he was found... :(

His episode of Disappeared was the most fascinating because until the discovery of Bradyn’s remains, you could make a good case for any possible outcome of his disappearance: suicide, accidental death (like from the elements), homicide, or living a new life under an assumed name. Though I had a feeling suicide was the most likely outcome. :(

Alexandria "Ali" Lowitzer was a sixteen year-old from Spring, Texas who disappeared while walking to the local burger bar where she worked to pick up a paycheck. Apparently Ali never made it to the burger bar and there has been no trace of her ever since. There's no evidence that Ali disappeared voluntarily, and there has been no activity on her cellphone from the last ping that afternoon.

Convicted murderer Brandon Scott Lavergne was implicated by a private investigator. A witness saw Ali talking to a man in a white truck similar to the one owned by Lavergne, and there was a partial match on the license plate. However, Ali's mother says that Lavergne has been cleared by the authorities.

My heart breaks for poor Ali and her family. Ali seemed like a great girl and she was finally making her first steps towards independence before someone stole her future from her. Ali's mother continues to campaign tirelessly for her missing daughter and refuses to give up hope that she'll return. It's close to eight years since Ali vanished, and sadly I suspect that she is no longer with us. I wish her family could find some closure but I'm afraid that they'll never find her. :(

From what I have read, she's trying to make the site more mobile-friendly. I applaud her efforts. I think the kinks will be worked out shortly. It's not her doing the upgrade, but she's gotten help from a web designer...

I've heard a lot of people bash Paulides' 411 series and claim a lot of cases are obvious bear attacks/exposure.

I've only just recently discovered this guy and been watching all of his videos on YouTube. He's even been to Australia to cover 3 or 4 missing person's cases around Sydney. Blue Mountains National Park etc.

Some of the cases he's covered are just plain weird beyond belief.

Went looking for missing persons cases in Michigan and found this interesting case:

The police noted that Catherine's parents seemed unusually callous about the situation. Three days into the search, Anna and Robert were seen sitting in a car with other couples, laughing and drinking alcohol. The police were suspicious, but there was no evidence to implicate that Davidsons at that time, and all their children backed up their story.

Anna and Robert had another daughter, Joy, after Catherine's disappearance. More than thirty years after the child went missing, Joy went to the police and said her older sister had told her Catherine had never gone to Warren Dunes State Park that day and was, in fact, already dead by then.

Joy stated she was told Anna bound and gagged Catherine and placed her in a closet in the family's home in Chicago. The other children heard scratching coming from the closet all night long, then the noises stopped. When Joy's sister looked in the closet she saw her sister lying in a fetal position, dead.

The Davidson parents turned to religion after Catherine went missing. They moved to Zebulon, Georgia and then to rural Florida, and in the mid-1980s they founded the House of Prayer for All People, a religious group that operated under a system of collectivism and Old Testament style beliefs, including adhering to a kosher diet and wearing full-length robes and head coverings.

At its largest, the group comprised 24 members. They would take new names upon joining. Robert changed his name to Jonah Young and Anna became Anna Young.

Anna, who was in charge, was cruel to the other members, particularly after her husband died in 1988. She forced members to turn over all their savings, separated parents from their children, and frequently starved, humiliated, beat and tortured the members, especially children, for their "sins." Each beating took 33 lashes with a whip, the same number Christ had received before the crucifixion.
