I believe that this goes back to what may have been part of Three's a Crowd's ultimate undoing. It tried too hard to pattern itself and its format after its British counterpart Robin's Nest instead of going off into its own direction.

Like on Three's a Crowd, Robin's Nest centered on Robin Tripp (the British equivalent to Jack Tripper from Man About the House, the series that Three's Company was based on) and his live-in girlfriend named Vicky and her meddlesome father named James.

Also, on Three's Company, we had seen Jack meet Janet, Chrissy, and Terri's fathers and they all liked and got along with Jack despite his unconventional living arrangement with their daughters. So what exactly was the issue with Mr. Bradford and Jack in comparison?

Mr. Bradford as they say, was simply not able to see the forest for the trees. He's not at all impressed with Jack despite the fact that Jack is a self-made man who owns his own business and is a decent guy.

Did Mr. Bradford simply have an issue with Jack because he was worried that he might impregnate his daughter (for whom he wasn't married to but was his live-in girlfriend) and simply put, he didn't want to have grandchildren to be born out of wedlock? I don't know exactly how I just came to that conclusion other than, maybe this goes back to Three's Company and Mr. Roper and later Mr. Furley's presumed issues with Jack living with Janet, Chrissy, and later Cindy and Terri. They as Jack's landlords, likely worried that unmarried men and women living together would make the property unseemly or like a swinger's pad.

I thought that I read that Richard Kline turned Three's a Crowd down in part because he was offered a pilot for a show that ultimately didn't get picked up.
