A’s Luis Severino complains about Sacramento ballpark, says it’s like pitching in spring training
Why has he (Serevino) been so much better on the road? “Because we play in a big-league stadium on the road,” he said. “We don’t have that at home right now. It’s not the same. It’s not the same atmosphere. We don’t have a lot of fans. Our clubhouse is in left field. So, when we play day games, we have to just be in the sun. There’s no air conditioning there, too. It’s really tough.” Quote:

Others might have asked this, but are they going to play mostly night games at home? Because Las Vegas is extremely hot in the summer. Even asking millionaire ball players to stand in the outfield in the middle of the afternoon in the middle of July is pretty brutal.
But Arizona has a team too and no players have died there…. |

~1901-14: more or less contenders ~1915-27: teardown/mediocrity ~1928-32: contenders, including 3 consecutive WS appearances ~1933-45: teardown/mediocrity ~1946-48: mediocre but actually above .500 (barely) ~1949-54: (final years in Philadelphia) losing on the field & chaos in ownership as Connie Mack stepped down as manager but stubbornly continued as owner in the throes of dementia ~1955-67: the Kansas City years...being basically a farm team for the Yankees until Charlie Finley took over in 1960. Griped about the stadium and threatened to move to Louisville and Oakland. KC finally ponied up for a stadium, but too late to prevent the move to Oakland. ~1968-76: Major contenders. 5 consecutive AL West titles and 3 consecutive WS titles ~1977-79: absolute train wreck coinciding with free agency after 1976 season. ~1980-82: Billy Ball & Rickey Henderson. ~1983-mid 86: mediocre ~mid 1986-95: Tony LaRussa years. 3 consecutive division titles & WS appearances, winning in 1989 ~1996-2015: Moneyball. Mostly contenders, playoffs a few times ~2016-21: up and down with some good play ~2022- train wreck and ownership chaos, currently in Sacramento while awaiting a new home in Las Vegas.
