The move to Sacramento has been for the better all things considered. They couldn't remain in Oakland in that lame duck status for three seasons, as I said earlier that situation was untenable. With respect to attendance let's look at the facts as crazy as that might sound:

In 2025 the A's have an average attendance of10,166 per game. To put that in context, in 2022 the average attendance at an A's game was 9,973 per game, in 2023 the average attendance was 10,275 per game. So in fact the crowds for this season are in line with what the A's drew in 2022 (in fact a little more) and just a little less than 2023. With respect to last year, the numbers are somewhat skewed due to the last home stand, the team averaged 27,684 which is a figure out of line with the rest of the season, prior to that farewell homestand the A's were averaging 9,844 per game. 8,604 was the average final homestand attendance in 2023, and 8,799 was the average final homestand attendance in 2022. On top of that playing in a stadium that's 75.7% filled as opposed to 80% empty with lower operating costs to boot has got to be a plus. The teams record 23-32 is in line with last year at this time 23-33, the players and the manager need to stop complaining. The sports media needs to take a more objective approach to covering the A's, could things be better, sure, but things would have been worse staying in Oakland.

The Oakland A’s are GONE. After 57 years, they ditched their crumbling stadium and moved to Las Vegas, leaving behind what might be the WORST stadium in MLB history. But WHY did it come to this? How did a stadium that once hosted dynasties, Hall of Famers, and some of baseball’s BIGGEST moments become an empty, sewage-leaking embarrassment?

The answer lies in decades of neglect, bad decisions, and an owner who seemed determined to run the team into the ground. To understand how the Coliseum fell apart, let’s go back to where it all started.

If the citizens of this region are lucky the A's will come and go and there will be no further talk about getting a major league team. Who but a fool would want such a ghastly fate as that! The burden of having to spend taxpayers money on a stadium for a billionaire only to find out 15 years after completion it needs about 800 million in renovations which ensures it will never be paid off. Of course all cable subscribers will be expected to contribute to the operating revenue through fees for televised games whether they watch or not. And then to top it all off, to be constantly criticized for not supporting the hometown team as the citizens of Miami are, the same people who soundly voted down building the Marlins a stadium only to be overruled by a bunch of hack county commissioners who voted to spend the money anyhow.

On the field, the not Sacramento Athletics are a shambles. Second-worst home record in MLB. 1-20 in their last 21. You also know about all the own goals. Kids not being able to run the bases in full. Ass media setup. Managers not being able to see field. All laughably terrible.

The thing is, you don’t even know the half of it. What’s unfolding with not Sacramento A’s is worse than you realize.

Remember when everyone was talking about how expensive A’s tickets were in Sacramento? There were all those stories about how Sutter Health Park would be the costliest place to see a baseball game on average in 2025…yeah, about that.

Single game A’s tickets on the resale market are now being sold for similar prices as single-game River Cats through Ticketmaster. Heck, tickets in the single digits are now appearing.

And now, the Sacramento River Cats are drawing larger crowds than the A's in Sacramento. And someone, this might not even be the worst of it. John Fisher and those running the team have are penny pinching on promotions.

The A’s systematically destroyed baseball in Oakland, flipped the city the double bird on the way out the door, slithered their way 90 minutes up the road and proceeded to pee all over the Sacramento welcome mat.

The A's in Sacramento experiment continues to get worse.

MLB players make it clear they don’t want to play for the A’s

Which organizations have bad reputations among players?

On Opening Day, four of the majors’ five lowest payrolls belonged to the Athletics, Chicago White Sox, Miami Marlins and Pirates. Not coincidentally, those four clubs joined the Rockies in receiving the most mentions when we polled players on the sport’s least reputable organizations, allowing multiple answers in each response.

“All the poor ones,” one player said.

“There are no poor ones,” another pointed out.

Of the 115 players who responded, 39 named the relatively nomadic Athletics as an organization with a bad reputation. Coming off an all-time bad season, the White Sox received the second-most mentions, with 31. The Marlins and Rockies tied for an ignominious third place. They were followed, in order, by the Rockies, Pirates, Angels and resourceful but frugal Rays.

One American League player, asked to name at least one team he wouldn’t want to play for, settled on the White Sox. He added: “At the end of the day, you’re in the big leagues. How can you complain when you’re in the big leagues? I don’t think there’d be anybody I wouldn’t want to play for.”

A fellow member of the AL provided a similar perspective while pointing out the unusual circumstances of the Athletics and another somewhat transient club.

“The major leagues is the major leagues, but it’s got to be tough to be on the Rays or the A’s,” he said.

The Athletics are hosting a groundbreaking for their new, definitely real stadium in Las Vegas later this month at 8 am. It’ll be a magnificent event. When I heard about the A’s groundbreaking announcement and the like seven people fiercely saying, I told you so, Vegas A’s confirmed, I felt a sense of déjà vu.

Was there ever a case of a team and local government coming together to host a stadium announcement at a construction site despite not having financing in place, only for nothing to happen that was located within, say, I don’t know, a two-mile radius of where the A’s currently play home games?

The answer is yes. Sacramento has already done the pointless stadium groundbreaking. If you start at Sutter Health Park drive about five minutes over the sketchy I Street Bridge and onto Railyards Blvd, you’ll find a nice big patch of dirt.

And on that dirt in 2017, Sac Republic owner Kevin Nagle, then Sacramento mayor Darrell Steinberg, a few other local officials, and Carmichael Dave invited local media down to watch them cosplay construction workers while conducting a new stadium announcement ceremony.

And what do you know, A’s owners, some local politician, and I’m guessing some local celebrity will invite the media down to the demolished Tropicana site to do the EXACT. SAME. THING.

You know the one thing that the Sacramento Republic ceremony in 2017 and what the A’s will do down in Las Vegas have in common. Neither stadium had financing in place. Without that, everything you do is meaningless. In fact, it is only happening because you don’t have the money to build.
