Mary Morris murder discussion back on....THIS THREAD ONLY!!

I re-listened to the episode in the podcast mentioned above that focused on Mary Lou Morris. One thing struck me as interesting. As mentioned before by TheCars1986, the accelerant used to burn Mary's body was manure. Mary and her husband both owned horses and per Mary's daughter, Marilyn, Mary would use manure for her roses. The hosts also mention something that has never been made public before. Mary's body was not found in the driver's seat. It was found in the front passengers seat and she was burned very, very badly. The insinuation is that she was dead when she was put in the car and driven to that location. They have never found a cause of death because of how badly burned the body was.

Here's the thing I am wondering; was she burned inside the car that morning or did it possibly happen overnight or in the very early morning hours. It seems awfully weird for someone to kill someone and the drive them to a public road and set them on fire while people are driving to work, running errands, etc.

Either way, this case is much more straight forward than UM presented it and that's because Harris County Sherriff's Office have refused to release any information, even after 22 years. Mary's daughter was surprised that most of this was not public knowledge.

One of the detectives originally assigned to the case believed it to be an elaborate suicide, which tells me that's why it was never solved.

Here's what I'll say. You're right. It certainly APPEARS there's a connection based on that.

But.. Locking yourself into thinking there MUST be a connection is just as dangerous as thinking there ISN'T a connection.

Gotta be nimble with your thoughts on it. Suspecting something is fine.. letting those suspicions overrule logic.. Is a problem.

Basically. You have to remain open to the possibility that it is.. Just a big coincidence. otherwise.. You'll be taking a trip right down Confirmation Bias Blvd.. Which is a big trap that many people fall into.

I agree with staying open on the issue. And we should no matter what. Obviously I can't prove there is a connection. It just seems bizarre. A city the size of Houston I am sure there are times within three days that people with the same name die. But is just seems like too much of a coincidence that two women who look somewhat similar with the same name from the same area within 3 days die in their cars. How many people, other than from car accidents, die in their cars?

It is just so bizarre.

Just out of sheer curiosity I was wondering if that 911 call that Mary made had ever been released. I know it is apparently a chilling audio of Mary as she is being attacked. But I just find this very strange to be honest. Mary calls her friend saying there is a guy that is giving her the creeps that is following her. 12 minutes later she makes the frantic call to 911. The guy just attacked her in broad daylight knowing she was on the phone? This case is just so weird, and then with Mike Morris - soon to be $700,000 richer because of the life insurance - making a call to Mary's phone that lasted 4 minutes and yet he claims no one ever picked up and the phone just rang.

Is there any chance of this thing being solved? And what has become of Mike Morris?

The audio has never been released - apparently the man Mary recognized and was fearful of was a friend of the male nurse she worked with. Maybe she didn't want to have an awkward moment with him, since she was primarily blamed for the male nurse being fired? IMO, I think he is innocent, if not a little disturbed (do some searching on this forum and you will find his posts where he claims ALOT and ended up getting the post suspended due to requests from the police).

Mike Morris cannot deny he didn't get someone on that phone, there's no way a phone can ring that long without a voice mail kicking in, even in those days.

Okay so here is the thing, Mary is freaked out, she notices a guy who is a friend of the male nurse (not sure how this was revealed but I am not fully up to speed on this case in recent years so I believe it) 12 minutes later she makes a frantic call to 911 which I wish I would be able to hear what she said, and then she's dead. Is this not a fantastic coincidence that she ends up dead after the 911 call? How could they not connect the suspect?

And as for Mike Morris, I agree, he did connect with someone. I would like to know who and why from him. Whoever committed this murder is lucky that the police department overseeing it is run by Barney Fife, because there is no way there shouldn't be a conviction

That's actually awful. I never knew about this movie, but "Maggie Moore" is definitely "Mary Morris" in disguise. Also, they mention $700,000 in life insurance money. Come on, this isn't right. The movie would actually be pretty interesting if it was done as a drama, I'd see that, but this one? No, too close to home. The case is still not solved.

I would be interested though in wondering, what does Mike Morris' daughter, Katharyn Morris in this case, think happened? On her Facebook page she does have pictures of her dad and her that she displays proudly. She has a few pictures of her mother as well in memoriam. By the way, Mary McGinnis Morris, her mom, was a knockout when she was younger, I thought. Mike Morris, who goes by Michael Morris, looks different all of these years later. Balding, white hair, mustache, etc. Hard to notice it is the same guy, but he does post pictures of his daughter Katharyn, so I guess that's him. Anyway, he's been remarried for 20 years now. What do people in his family think happened? Because for whatever reason these potential murderers always seem to find love. Jule Caylor looks to be re-married, heck even Susan Smith reportedly has lovers that visit her in jail. But what would people think of Mike Morris that know him the best?

Until I stumbled on the EW piece, I didn’t even know Mike and Mary McGinnis Morris’s daughter’s first name. I don’t think she has said much publicly. We’re about the same age and I can’t even to begin to imagine what she went through losing her mother so young (and so violently).

In past interviews, Marilyn Blalock has expressed suspicions about her mother’s widower, Jay. I wonder how that can translate into a belief that the cases are related. ��

I was under the impression that Jay seemed pretty much ruled out. I assume Marilyn's daughter and Jay aren't getting together for family dinners just a guess. He was her step-dad, so I am guessing she sort of takes that with a grain of salt as of now considering she has suspected him. What would his motive have been though?

Marilyn was interviewed on a podcast called “The Murder in My Family.” I don’t remember the exact details, but the gist is that Jay behaved suspiciously on the day of the murder and seemed to be in a crazy hurry to move on afterward. You should give it a listen (episode 36), as it’s one of the few things I’ve found that focuses on the first Mary rather than the second.

So would this mean that Jay and Mike were both sort of in cahoots together if Jay is guilty as well?

No. Their deaths/murders were unrelated.

Yes, although some people think both could be elaborate suicides.
