That could have been the case since another show he tried to do 4 years prior also failed. The show that does seem to be in existence

I just read a comment on YouTube that stated that Joan Rivers was like the female version of Don Rickles, when discussing her ill-fated late night talk show on Fox in the '80s. Basically, a little bit goes a long way. But people didn't want a steady diet every night.

I don't agree with that assessment of Joan's comedic character. She was the best friend who read National Enquirer, The Star, the gossip columns and commented on them. You have to remember where Joan was born and grew up, Brooklyn, New York, that character she was playing was a personality type in New York during her formative years and many were still around as late as the 70's and early 80's.
