Staci Keanan while on Christine Lakin's podcast said that he show was planning a three part series finale, but CBS wouldn't let them film it. It was supposed to be Dana's wedding. So there are probably three unproduced scripts for those episodes.

I am watching season 5 for the first time and I have just watched the episode with the prince. Dana pawing at the bodyguard was laugh out loud funny!

Originally, Step by Step was supposed to be canceled after season 5. After Sasha was arrested, they had trouble finding a replacement. Thats why Step by Step went from May of 1996 through March of 1997 without airing any new episodes.

Right me if I am wrong, but the reason why season six started late was because the guy who played J.T. was shot during the summer just before filming for season six was to begin.

They actually replaced Cody with Flash in about the final four episodes of Season 5. I'm assuming that the scripts were already written in advance and there wasn't enough time to write Cody out or explain is absence. So they had another "wacky" and "dumb" character in Flash fill-in as a stopgap measure.
