Major League Baseball moves Opening Day to April 14 amid negotiations for a new collective bargaining agreement

“Because of the logistical realities of the calendar, another two series are being removed from the schedule,” MLB commissioner Robert Manfred said in a statement. "I am saddened by this situation’s continued impact on our game and all those who are a part of it, especially our loyal fans."

I agree with sports people who predict the public's anger will be turning into apathy. People will find other things to do with their time.

At first glance most visible on-field changes look to be a universal DH, the return of 9 inning doubleheaders, and no more man on second to start in extra innings.

Pitch clocks and banning of shifts possible by next year.

ScruEm!! They took too long. I vow to not attend a single game in person, this entire season. And I'll be watching the TV broadcasts just to keep track of which advertised products I will boycott.

Maybe they decided to reach an agreement now while they still have time to fit in a full 162 game schedule.

Universal DH, no more 7 inning games, and no more automatic man on 2nd in extra innings, these are all good things.

Don't like the idea of pitch clocks and shift banning, doesn't sound good to me.

Will see how the season starts off, but if the A's choose the salary dump route and become basement dwellers I will quickly lose interest.

Regarding the "shift", I just don't understand how batters have been so owned by that?

I mean granted, it does put more fielders into your power alley. But I believe that a good 90% of the time that I've hit a baseball, I could determine which side the ball was headed.. "push it the opposite way" I think it was called.

Now, that might limit you to a single, and that isn't as awe inspiring as the long ball. But you know what they say. A walk, a stolen base, a single, and a sacrifice fly...and you're on the board!!

"Hit 'em where they ain't!"

The Cubs won the World Series? Really? (I'm not kidding.)

7 inning games? Man on 2nd to start an inning?

They really do all that?

Banning the shift?

Wow! What a joke.

Will see what happens but I think there is potential for the A's to have their worst season since 1979 when they lost 108 games. They have a rookie manager, they have already traded their best starting pitcher Chris Bassitt, and Matt Chapman and Matt Olson have also been traded. The A's are in obvious salary dump mode and I don't think they are done making trades, more trades are probably to come. With a roster of unknowns and veterans who are past their prime, worst case scenario they might lose 110 games or more. Hopefully they won't be as bad as that, maybe they will be better than I think but right now I'm not very optimistic.
