Looking at photos of the final episode which hasn't aired yet, seems to confirm my fear of no Anna Faris appearing. If the show would have been able to keep her, I think one more season would have given the writers enough time to properly wrap everything up from a story perspective.
Allison Janney is a treasure and she makes Bonnie hilarious. But Christy was really the protagonist of the show. She was a character that had hit rock bottom and, despite some speed bumps along the way, had come sooooo far. She was easy to root for. I wanted to see her become a lawyer. If there wasn't enough time for her to finish law school by the series end, we could have seen a flash-forward moment in the final episode where she's in the courtroom defending her client over some wacky situation. Maybe her client was Bonnie? I never cared for Violet. She had no major characteristics other than being a b****. But for Christi's sake, I wanted to see them reconcile. The way things left between them in their last episode together was very sad. Also, maybe some kind of conclusion with Roscoe? He never needed to be in a ton of episodes but his existence should have been acknowledged a little more after he started living with Baxter and Candace full time. Another season would also have given time for the rest of the characters to get a proper sendoff. Really, the only thing we have right now is Jill getting back with Andy, which seems forced given that he couldn't stand being around her just a few episodes ago. Marjorie rebuilding a relationship with her son had already been in the works but I wanted to see something more because I just loved her character. Wendy and Tammy could have gotten something nice as well. I know the writers will have done the best they could with what the had access to for the final episode. But I already know beforehand it's not going to be satisfying enough after investing 8 seasons into these characters. |

I don't have high hopes for the last episode. Majority of this season has been about Jill and Andy. That's not entertaining to me. If I wanted to see a crappy sitcom that ruins itself over a couple in the show, I would watch Friends. They had Jill replace Christy's airtime in the show and it was a huge turnoff for me. I would have rather seen more of Tammy since her character has realistic stories. Tammy and Marjorie should have been the two carrying the weight this last season but it is what it is. I just hope they don't leave the finale on a cliffhanger. Some creators do that with their last episode. One of the sneak peeks looks like it's from the ending where Adam tells Bonnie he has something to tell her. There's a picture of Bonnie laying her head on his lap so I hope they don't end the show with a tragic reveal that we'll never see the resolution to.

Alison Janney: I was told not to share my theories on why CBS canceled Mom
"Yeah, it was a shock," Janney said in a new interview with CBS Sunday Morning. "I have my own theories, but I've been told not to express them," she added with a laugh, "But listen, eight years is a great long run for a show." Back in March, she said there were "so many reasons" behind the show getting canceled, adding that most of them were "probably money" related. |

I was a big fan of the show when it was first on for about the first four seasons. Here we have this young middle aged woman with two kids, the older daughter an angry pregnant teenager and a younger son from a different father, and all the early season stories that arised from that dynamic. Bonnie was a lunatic and she relapsed at least once and was much more of a humorous conman (con woman?) who was trying desperately to get her act together. Liked the dynamic of Christy’s father who died and other drama. The restaurant where Christy worked was also good, the first season manager Christy was having an affair with. The insane head chef played by French Stewart and his sidekick.
The show still isn’t bad but it’s basically Bonnie and the other four middle aged women and whatever the situation is, and to me the show has gotten sort of dull and pointless. The drama is mostly gone. It’s mostly like the show was of three eras, the first house the family lived in, the second larger house, and the current phase which is ending. I felt I was robbed to see what would have happened to Christy. Her trying to get into law school, better her life and how it was going to end and the actress ups and quits the show. I know nothing about “the business” but maybe contracts with series leads should be done up to a year ahead of time, so it gives the writers to write the character out more suitably. But I don’t know because I am not in the entertainment business. |

I've seen several episodes and enjoyed them, but I don't watch on a regular basis. Any chance Mom is pulling what The Office did and Anna Faris actually will make an appearance? The Office cast and crew said for months Steve Carell wouldn't return, only to have him do so and then they smilingly admitted they lied to keep it under wraps.

Matt's Inside Line: Scoop on "Mom"
by Matt Webb Mitovich October 13, 2021 I’m still perturbed about CBS cancelling "Mom". Did we ever find out why that happened? –Dee Back in March, "Mom" star Allison Janney ventured there were “many reasons behind it — most of them probably money.” And my recent talk with CBS Entertainment chief Kelly Kahl seemed to echo that. “Shows come to the end of a life cycle at some point, and it typically has to do with a lot of factors, many of which the audience doesn’t see,” he said. “Creatively it was a tremendous show, and it was still doing well for us, no question. But it also has to do with finding room for new shows and making sure you have a good financial balance on your schedule.” https://tvline.com/2021/10/13/why-mo...s-no-season-9/ |
