Today's Antenna TV installment was:

We Get Letters

A Mrs. Garrett episode!! YAY!!

This was really good. I loved everything about it except for George & now Andy..Just go away to the both of you. I liked Andy in the beginning, but his hanging around there so much is just unhealthy and weird for a kid his age. And George picking up his Kuwait paper as his reason for being part of the group is so contrived and dumb. And the head tic….ahhhhhh!! It drives me crazy!! Why does he do that? Is it a condition or just bad acting?! :bump (this is his perpetual head ticking)

Now to Edna….I loved everything about this story and learning a bit about Mrs. G’s past as well. So she lived in a one room apartment with her friend Gwen who would hang signs on the doorknob when she was getting some--to the confusion of poor Mrs. G. I really liked when they told that story.

Once again Natalie was my favorite here (after Mrs. G of course). Her reaction to the alleged affair was perfectly in character for her and she acted it out really well. I liked how she confronted Mrs. G with her feelings about it, but it was strangely left unresolved.:confused:

Did Mrs. G show Nat the letters like she did with Gwen to make her understand? Or was Nat’s view of Mrs. G forever changed? It wasn’t clarified and left hanging. I guess it's left to the viewer to conclude that, but I didn’t like the implications. :(

I read the recent thread here about this episode so I won’t go into the “right or wrong” of the letters as been discussed there. I will just say I think it was handled very well where the viewer can understand both sides of the story and empathize with each character. And it was nice to see the old friends make up and end the episode with their girlish gossiping like old times.

Speaking of gossiping, how Tootie perked up at the thought of it in the beginning was funny. We all know how she loves her gossip, they even did a whole episode on it. And today it was Tootie rocking the side ponytail!! Yay for fun 80’s hair!! :cheer:

Excellent episode and a new favorite. A definite 10 out of 10 even with the annoying appearance of useless tic tock head Clooney.

“Ballroom Dance”---or “Jo & E.Z. Do the Waltz”

Ok episode--not as great as the previous one, but still watchable. E.Z. from “Three’s a Crowd” goes to Ballroom Class with Jo.

I love Natalie having a different job each episode from the temp agency. It’s a nice running gag during this season. I just don’t know what kind of agency would send her out to teach a disco aerobics class. Don’t you need experience for that?! I guess she could’ve been taking classes in the past so she already knew the moves to teach. It would explain her weight loss so i'm just gonna go with that as an explanation that makes sense.

George is now answering the house phone like he lives there?! NO….no no no! :nonono::angryfire I’m glad Tootie admonished him for that. It’s just weird and creepy that these guys are just hanging out in the home like they’re one of the girls now.

Anyway, back to the story. It was nice to see Jo interested in something that’s so against her character. The reactions of others was expected but I liked how Mrs. G instantly approved without making any snarky comments. And loaning Jo her old prom dress was sweet. I love that she got so excited and had it air shipped when E.Z. came back to be her partner again. Don’t go Mrs. G!! Please stay!! :notworthy

The dance at the end was nice and Jo looked great with her hair up and in Mrs. G’s old dress. 💃🏻

An overall good episode.

Only nitpick was how Jo completely ignored the customer she rang up while talking to Blair. It was so rude how she rang up and bagged that woman’s purchase without even acknowledging her. I would never set foot in there again after such treatment!

Thanks 80's. This is much better than filling the board with all those episode titles. But it also gave people a place just to talk about those specific episodes, so I guess there's positives to each way.

Yes, that paper thing is very ridiculous---and I can forgive a LOT on a sitcom!

Very strangely unresolved!! :(

I think she should have. When watching, I keep waiting for her to!

It was so bizarre to watch. Jo is talking to Blair the whole time, taking the money, shoving whatever crap she bought into the bag, shoved the bag at her all while not even looking at the poor customer. And the customer just turns and leaves like it was all normal behavior.

I know she was just an extra who was not written to speak, but I would've had a few words for her before I left that place!

That's a good idea. They're in OOH episodes now, but Edna Edibles is my favorite place of the whole series. Maybe when it goes to first season of Eastland i'll change it. I'm sure I can come up with a good one for that "Lost Girl" season!

About Natalie & Mrs. G's unresolved talk. You know how Charlotte Rae reportedly said that she felt that the girls didn't need her for advice anymore since they were grown?...

Well how about Mrs. G being the one who went to THEM for advice now?! This was the perfect opportunity to show that just because the girls were adults, Mrs. G's existence wasn't irrelevant. She now could've gone to them for their opinions and advice with her own problems.

I would've loved for Mrs. G to go to Natalie for her perspective since she went through a similar experience with her father. She could've shown Nat the letters and asked her opinion on it. It would've only taken a couple of minutes to show the scene and could've left things resolved between them instead of hanging open the way it was.

Mrs. G leaves soon, so are we to believe Natalie was thinking inside "Good, let that harlot go! I never want to see her again!"....Poor Nat looked so crushed with the realization that Mrs. G wasn't the person she thought she was all those years. It was just sad to watch and I wish they hadn't left it like that.

Hey cfr1970, now that you mention it, the same thought had occurred to me before: i would have loved to see MRS G ask the girls for advice!

For instance: BLAIR could have taken MRS G to 'Bloomingsdales' for an important business event or a romantic ball she may have to attend; she could also have given her advice on a romantic issue the 'feisty red haired' may have had to solve.

JO could have helped MRS G out in advising her about the best car to buy or some other manual tasks; she could also have given her second opinion about a romantic issue unsolved.

NAT could have given MRS G a push for her to reopen 'Edna's Edibles' again and promise to work with her as her partner in crime ha ha! And she would definitely be able to solve any dispute between a jealous ex friend over a present boyfriend the 'feisty red haired' may have had.

As for TOOTIE: she'd be able to give MRS G a boost of confidence with her positive energy, telling her to go for the man she loved regardless of the consequences; she might also insist on the 'feisty red haired' about reopening 'Edna's Edibles' again, and by offering to work alongside her and NAT.

So, what do you think about my ideas, cfr1970?:D:D:D

Thanks valentina. I may as well have some fun with it because they're so useless, annoying and serve no purpose except to have males on the set. And they seem to get worse with each new episode.

A female oriented sitcom does not need to inject men just to have them there. Can you imagine if Golden Girls did that? Or Designing Women? (They did have Anthony, but he served a purpose right from the start, and was also funny.)

I liked Mr. Bradley. He was great in Flash Flood which is the only season 1 episode i've seen. It's too bad he didn't stick around. Was Roy the goofy loser who wanted Jo during the cafeteria years?

If FOL had reasons for both Andy or George I could accept their presence a little more. Say Andy was a little brother of one of them and needed to live there for a while instead of some random urchin off the street who just hangs around.

And George could've been either a steady boyfriend of one of the girls <gag> or a delivery guy for the store for bulk orders to Langley and other local colleges like Anthony was with the furniture on DW.

BTW I noticed on the outside street scenery of Over Our Heads there's a bakery right across the street. It must've opened up right after Edna's Edibles burned down. "Get your homemade strudels! We'll never sell you crappy junk here!"

Right???

:yeahthat

Like I mentioned elsewhere, I've been watching some season 8 now, and it is sooooo weeeiiiiird---the girls are grown up! I have NEVER watched this series out of order. I ALWAYS start with "The Girls' School" and dive into episode 1. So it was jarring to suddenly see "big people" girls and NO Mrs. Garrett and no Eastland!

Hey, we are loyal, we are passionate, we are advocates, but we also get it: Not everyone's a fan. And we don't expect everyone to be a fan. It is very different (probably most drastically for anyone who came into the show in the Eastland years and then saw it later).

We just hope if you're critical, you're not cruel!

Haha just be gentle with Sue Ann ;) jk you can say whatever I wont be offended

I can't remember what Sue Ann was like in Flash Flood. I just remember Tootie on the horse and Blair wanting Mr. Bradley to take her in the hay. Those were the parts that stood out for me.

But from what I saw of her in Girl's School I liked. Fans of another Lost Girl I think may be offended. I'll try not to be too critical but it looks like it's going to be uphill climb with that one!

Right???

Even Tootie should be 18 in season 7 since her character was 12 in the beginning. So everyone is now an adult, and it is jarring. Especially when watching them quickly in syndication where the episodes fly by.

Back in the '80's, 18 year olds were much more mature acting and looking than the 18's of today so I think that's another reason they all look way beyond their years....In a good way though. I'm not saying they're all old looking.

I would never be cruel to any of the girls...except for Kelly but she was never one of them. And also Clooney because I think he's just a douche in real life so part of my hate crosses over from character to actor. Everyone else is safe from my wrath....even Beverly Ann.

And he's right. You'll find "Lorsie" is just about the most easygoing guy of all of us around here.

I've noticed....but I don't see anyone at all here to be not easygoing which is why I enjoy coming back here so much. There's never any heated arguments which I love and so rare to find on message boards these days. :) :woohoo:

I'm curious if Lisa Whelchel has ever been asked or if she's ever commented on that episode where she was pretty close to becoming season 9 Natalie. Also the episode where she went for it again in the van. With her views how they are, i'm curious what her thoughts are about those episodes now in hindsight.

Now that seems natural to me, because I love to binge. It's "starting" with the girls all grown up that is so odd! lol

When Twitch showed the entire run of Mr. Rogers 2 years in a row, now THAT was jarring---you saw the people age 30 years in 2 weeks!!! Talk about surreal!!

Well disagreements are (unfortunately) not unusual (I say "unfortunately" because I wish we all agreed on everything about the show since we all love it so gosh darn much!). And once in a while heels can dig in and heads can butt, but yeah, things almost always stay at a civil level and cool back down (I can imagine coming from a political board of all things we seem like a bunch of smiling daisies, lol).

Yes she has, indeed, in most of the documentaries. They originally wanted Blair to "become season 9 Natalie" in season 2!

I'm not sure she's ever commented on that season 1 episode; I don't think she has.

Well, we can tell you that she now kind of regrets not appearing in the season 9 "sex show" (she just revealed this recently). She thinks now, looking back, she would appear in it after all and give her opposing viewpoint (which is what I've been "telling her" here she should have done all along! lol [not that she reads the board, I just mean I've been venting for years she should have spoken up on what her opposition was] ).

Yikes! She was 16 in season 2, which in all honesty isn't bad if we're talking real life. In the Bronx where I grew up, by 16 the girls were already working on their second kid.

:joke:

But seriously, 16 was well experienced for many in the 80's and I could only imagine how looser the 70's were at that age!

I'm not sure she's ever commented on that season 1 episode; I don't think she has.

That was a season ONE episode? Then I did see it. I remember Blair throwing herself at the guy in the back of the van. Why am I thinking this was season 2? Maybe i'm mixing it up with the van they stole in that season?

Lisa was 17 in Season 2, but that was still too early to have Blair loose her virginity. Ironically in the first season, she was the loose girl on campus. She was all for sexual experimentation before marriage while Sue Ann was the wait until wedding night girl.

Lisa never mentioned that episode or how Blair was portrayed as the loose girl in Season 1. She often mocked Sue Ann for her old fashion values. In many ways Julie Piekarski was as innocent as Sue Ann in season 1 because she didn't know what a roach clip was.

“Christmas Baby”

I thought this was going to be a boring one with the birth of Blair’s little sister, mixed with a holiday episode but I really liked it. My favorite was Tootie’s enthusiasm for Christmas and her nearly bursting with delight when Monica was going to have a Christmas Baby.

So now George is just walking in the front door of their home without knocking or ringing the bell. What the hell?! He really thinks he’s the 5th girl there doesn't he?! Ugh....Moving on lol.

And Andy dressing as Santa and walking into the hospital in what appears to be something like 4am Christmas morning….how did he get there on his own and where were his parents?! Does he live on his own?! It was so weird how a 13 year old kid is roaming the streets of Peekskill dressed as Santa in the middle of the night!:eek:

And Peekskill is in Westchester County, NY where some of the top medical centers in the entire country are just 20 minutes away or less. There’s no way they would go to the nearest and rundown looking hospital just because her labor began. After 2 kids, Monica would've known that she had enough time to get to a better hospital! And whatever happened to the other daughter, and Blair’s sister the nun? Is she locked away in a convent somewhere or has her existence been wiped away?!:confused:

Ending on a positive note, I love that it was real Blair and not Pod Blair who helped deliver her baby sister. Had it been Pod Blair there’s no way she would want to be around that mess and she would've complained and bitched about it, so i’m glad they didn’t put her into Bootsie mode for this episode and she was our normal and grown up Blair!! :loveya:

And they showed a real newborn baby...damn that kid was so tiny...had to be just weeks old!

“Tootie Drives”

This is one of my favorites because I remember watching it when it originally aired and anticipated getting my own drivers license in a few months.

They said Tootie was 16 but in ‘79 first season she was 12 so she’d definitely be 18 by now and isn’t she now a senior at Eastland since Natalie already graduated? She was only one year behind her in grade, so there’s no way she could be a senior and be just 16. I was just a sophomore at that age. It doesn't add up.

Natalie’s current temp job is in a funeral home! I had forgotten that she used the hearse for the driving test and laughed when it first appeared on the screen. And when she scared Tootie from the back was another LOL moment.

And Fred Bunker (Archie’s little brother) was the driving instructor. I looked him up on IMDB and I see he’s guest starred on numerous other sitcoms through the years, but being Archie’s brother stands out most in my memory. BTW he’s still around and turns 90 this June!

Natalie asking Fred Bunker if they can stop the hearse for a pickup!

I also really loved how Tootie apparently drove all across the country to Hollywood during her driving test and passing some 🌴 🌴 🌴 during her test!!:lol: (sloppy editing on those outdoor shots!!)

A great episode and one close to my heart just for the personal memories it brings me of when I watched it originally.

And it looked like no one wanted poor Tootie to ever leave that garage LOL. I’d have been so insulted at their lack of confidence!

The whole flamingo thing with Mrs. G and Andy was weird and unneeded. Should’ve just given both of them the week off for this one.

Speaking of being off….NO LOONY CLOONEY this episode!! party:

Wait, what? "2 kids"? Bailey is her 2nd kid. I never thought of "Meg" as Monica's daughter. I just always assumed she was one of Blair's stepfather's daughters from a previous marriage. I guess it's not spelled out though (and I'm not about to go watch that nun episode to find out, no sirree!).

And yes, I'm with your last theory---she's been wiped away!

This whole age/grade thing is a Bermuda Triangle. Blair and Jo should have technically graduated in season 3, not 4, so that's why I "fan-tasize" that they both got held back a year during their probation (Blair even says in season 1, "I've got 2 years left at Eastland"---while twirling Steve's hair in his van as she's turned on, lol).

But I've always pictured it this way: Blair and Jo are the same age, Natalie's 2 years younger than they are, and Tootie's 2 years younger than Nat---gradewise, anyway. This doesn't always match their ages though, leaving you to go :wallbang :horse:

It's hard to keep up with you guys! I just watched We Get Letters and Ballroom Dancing again.

We Get Letters:

I STILL don't understand why Mrs. Garrett wrote feedback to Gwen's husband's poems covertly! Was Gwen's husband asking for feedback for his poems out of shame that Gwen would chastise him for being interested in the arts and humanities? Why did they keep this secret for so long? Couldn't they have resolved this over a phone call? Why was Gwen such a confrontational b****, especially in front of all of those customers? She acted all sweet and nice at the beginning, and then she just snapped in the middle of the episode? WTF was she waiting for?

Again, Andy and George's appearances in these episodes had no purpose. Why was Andy dressed up like a mime? It served no purpose. And it didn't further the plot. Why was George still hanging around?

Ballroom Dancing:

As for Ballroom Dancing, this episode just seemed SO out of character for Natalie and Jo. I didn't buy that Natalie was a disco instructor and I sure as hell didn't buy that Jo would be interested in the "eloquence" of ballroom dancing. Like you mentioned before, were these pod Jos and pod Natalie's? Were the writers just shoehorning our beloved characters into whatever storyline that they wanted to keep this show alive? I would have believe it if it was Tootie being the disco instructor and Blair being interested in ballroom dancing, but it just didn't feel like "traditional" Jo and Natalie in this episode.

But anyway, I LOVED the dress that Jo wore at the end of this episode. Great choice, Mrs. G.!

And yes, I'm with your last theory---she's been wiped away!

When this one played on Antenna TV, I remember making lunch and not really paying attention to it after seeing Eve Plumb (reinforcing the point that no one ever pays attention to Jan Brady LOL)....So, I just assumed she was Blair's full sister...she very well could be a spawn of her father's after he divorced Monica. And that actually makes more sense since Blair's been through a few stepfathers already.

Speaking of which, it's kinda hard to picture Monica reproducing. You'd think the Warners would have people to "do that" for them! ;)

Not the first Monica.....that 24 year old looked like she was ready and willing for anything that came her way!:lol:

Hope he/she gets residuals!

I think it was Mindy Cohn who said they get nothing from the show, so that little baby probably gets zip too.

Yeah, you said in another thread you were so antsy to drive, and were like, "Even TOOTIE drives before I do!"

Yep! When I watch this one it's like i'm transported back in my 16 year old room on Saturday night dreaming of getting my first car. No other episode does that but this one so it's special to me.

I always thought Tootie was just one grade behind Natalie?...Ok, I just looked and see she graduates at the end of season 7 and Natalie graduated end of season 6 in the episode guide.

In real life, Kim Fields was just 16 in that driving episode, but her character technically should've been 18 by that point. It is a Bermuda Triangle and messes your brain trying to sort it all out.

Archie had a brother?? Wow. Interesting.

Yeah, he comes on towards the end of the series as the brother he hasn't spoken to in 27 years so that was the explanation for his suddenly having a brother. Another example of the writer's being all over the place with things.

I never realized that!!

Even without those palm trees in the background, it's so obvious Tootie is driving down Hollywood Blvd lol. They don't even try to hide it by sticking to fully treed side streets.

Another aspect I loved was each character teaching Tootie in their own specifically characteristic manner in the car in the garage! I love stuff like that!

Now that I didn't notice!

I'm looking forward to it myself. While i'm so far enjoying the later seasons, the girls are so much like adults now that it feels so different from the earlier seasons. I like when they're all young and still needing guidance and learning....the facts of life.

It's going to be nice starting from the beginning again. I just hope any critique of season 1 episodes doesn't offend any hardcore "Lost Girl" fans.

I feel exactly the same way as you cfr1970!

I grew up watching 'DIFFERENT STROKES' and only discovered FOL when i was an adult, nevertheless i have always preferred the early years when they were still kids (it usually works that way with me cos i'm a big kid at heart) and the few stories i have posted on the 'Fanfiction' site are from while they were still in their teens, and certainly not adults.

So, i never read any stories online related with the girls lives after they married, because this is so irrelevant to me and especially the ones with JO and RICK (for all i know she only dated the guy for 1 episode and then gets married: WHAT???)

In my point of view, the beginning of anything is always the best time (whether it's a sitcom, a film or real life) because it's so fresh and innocent, and anything that comes afterwards, loses its charm and magic....:wave::wave:

WOW!! You didn't discover FOL until you were an adult?! I can't imagine what that's like because that show has been with me through my childhood and teen years much like the characters. (Kim Fields is only 10 months older than me). How old were you when you first watched? That's so interesting. I just naturally assume everyone watched this as a kid growing up.

I can't wait to get to the part where Jo marries. Does this guy really come in for just one episode and they marry?! That's not Jo's style at all, but she did get pretty attached to Pierre in France (or whatever his name was) in the Paris film.

I too like when shows are at their beginnings. Not just because it's fresh and innocent, but the stories and creativity is usually very good and still heading towards it's peak. It's like slowly going up a hill and everything's great until you reach the top and then it's a free fall down into shark waters.:lol:

Speaking of being off….NO LOONY CLOONEY this episode!! party:

George was Kramer before there was Kramer. Just walked right in.

The episodes get stranger as Season 9 goes on. I won't spoil anything for you.

You guys seem to forget that i'm not American, and apparently FOL wasn't a huge success like DS was (outside from USA that's it):D:

I like your quote: you reach the top and then it's a free fall down into shark waters. (it's very clever and true too):

Yep, i only saw JO's future husband RICK on maybe one or two episodes (quite near the end of the show) so to me it felt quite a shock, and especially since EDDIE had been such a major part of her life and for so long!!!:confused::confused:

PS: the French guy's name was DAVID (not PIERRE):

:elvis::elvis::elvis:

DS was a huge success outside the US?! I never knew that. I'll take FOL any day over DS. And it shocks me to no end that Willis is the only one of the cast that's still alive today.

I'm so looking forward to this Rick guy. Jo seems to go for the types of guys that are the exact opposite of what you'd think she's go for, so i'm curious to see how this one measures up that she actually marries.

George was Kramer before there was Kramer. Just walked right in.

Ha! True, but Kramer was entertaining, at least for the first few seasons until he became a caricature of himself. George is nothing but a bore, even the lines they wrote for him are unfunny.

Without too many details, are they strange in a guilty pleasure kind of way where you can make fun of it...or just strange bad? When you call it strange it makes me want to see it even more now. I'm expecting the show to turn into The Twilight Zone.

I forgot to ask....when Blair suggests to name her sister "Bailey" after her grandfather, is it safe to assume it's the one on her mother's side and not the racist one whose name was going to be on the Eastland Library? When she said that I was like, it can't be the same grandfather!

RICK, the man JO ends up marrying was definitely handsome but that's it: the guy had no character at all! (no personality just like KEVIN):eek::eek:

And yes, you'd be surprised how popular DS was (i watched the show in 4 different languages man!): i guess it was probably thanks to tiny ARNOLD that the show became a success!:wave::wave:

But, i'll definitely take FOL over DS, and i'm pretty sure i would have loved it even more had it been shown on TV where i was in my days....:happyface:happyface:happyface

PS: i think the reason FOL wasn't shown outside USA, was maybe due to the fact that they changed the plot and did the revamp between season 1 and 2? Can this maybe be it? What do you think? (if so, then i'll definitely blame the writers boohoo!):mad::mad:

I STILL don't understand why Mrs. Garrett wrote feedback to Gwen's husband's poems covertly! Was Gwen's husband asking for feedback for his poems out of shame that Gwen would chastise him for being interested in the arts and humanities? Why did they keep this secret for so long?

Why was Gwen such a confrontational b****, especially in front of all of those customers? She acted all sweet and nice at the beginning, and then she just snapped in the middle of the episode? WTF was she waiting for?

Right? lol...she just came off all wrong there.

As for Ballroom Dancing, this episode just seemed SO out of character for Natalie and Jo. ...I would have believe it if it was Tootie being the disco instructor and Blair being interested in ballroom dancing, but it just didn't feel like "traditional" Jo and Natalie in this episode.

I could see it more naturally if Nancy were the disco instructor and Sue Ann wanted to feel sophisticated by taking ballroom dancing (let's face it, Blair probably was already a ballroom expert at 15, lol).

Haha thanks! What will I do once I finish them all though?! I'm going to miss doing my little reviews. I guess i'll have to move along to another show.

Are you kidding? You just barely got started! You've got about 7 more seasons to do!

When this one played on Antenna TV, I remember making lunch and not really paying attention to it after seeing Eve Plumb (reinforcing the point that no one ever pays attention to Jan Brady LOL)

....So, I just assumed she was Blair's full sister...she very well could be a spawn of her father's after he divorced Monica. And that actually makes more sense since Blair's been through a few stepfathers already.

Oh, no, he's not Blair's father's at all! In fact, IIRC (though I skip the episode from now on), she's not even Blair's sister at all, but a "stepsister", one of her stepfather's kids from a previous marriage.

It's funny, 'cause outside of this, Blair never references a sibling of any sort, full or otherwise (pre-Bailey), yet she's had a mother, father, and 2 step-fathers.

Not the first Monica.....that 24 year old looked like she was ready and willing for anything that came her way!:lol:

Yep! When I watch this one it's like i'm transported back in my 16 year old room on Saturday night dreaming of getting my first car. No other episode does that but this one so it's special to me.

Aw, that's very cool. :)

I always thought Tootie was just one grade behind Natalie?...Ok, I just looked and see she graduates at the end of season 7 and Natalie graduated end of season 6 in the episode guide.

Hm, I guess she is then. There just seems to be 2 years' difference in the cafeteria years, particularly "Growing Pains" when it's a big deal that Natalie's an "upperclassman" ("woman!"), in the ranks of Blair and Jo, and Tootie's still in the younger grades. Maybe there Tootie's supposed to be in 8th grade, Nat in 9th (first year of high school), and B and J 10th.

Now that I didn't notice!

You didn't? That's a stand-out scene to me! :)

I'll take the stiff in the back over Clooney. Not that there's much difference!

You got me curious about FOL airing outside the US and I found onfo on Wikipedia.
And LOL at the title changes!

Brazil called it "Living and Learning"
Italy called it "The Apple Tree"
France called it "Funny Life"

From Wikipedia:

International airings

In Brazil, the show aired on Nick at Nite as Vivendo e Aprendendo (Living and Learning, in English).

In Italy, seasons one through five were aired in 1983–1986 (dubbed as usual in Italian), on the terrestrial television Canale 5, the first Italian commercial network, and later on other local commercial television networks. The Italian version was named L'albero delle mele, which means the apple tree (the word "apple" is popularly used euphemistically in Italian as a reference to teenage girls).

In France, seasons two and three (dubbed in French and titled Drôle de Vie) aired in 1987 on the terrestrial television La Cinq, and seasons one, eight and nine aired on TF1.

In the United Kingdom, unlike Diff'rent Strokes, The Facts of Life has never aired on terrestrial television. A few seasons aired on the UK BSB satellite channels, and after BSB merged with Sky Television plc, the entire series was shown on Sky One.

In Canada, The Facts of Life was a mainstay on CBC Television — the Canadian public broadcaster, airing concurrently with the NBC airings as well as weekdays in stripped reruns at 4:00 p.m. (4:30 p.m. in Newfoundland) until April 1992. Crossroads Television System (CTS), a Christian-based network, aired it from September 2006 to 2009. Beginning on September 15, 2007, The Facts of Life aired weekends at 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. on CanWest's digital specialty channel, DejaView, which later moved it to weekdays at 4:00 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. in March 2010. As of 2019, Hamilton, Ontario-based CHCH currently airs the series on weekdays at 4:00 p.m. (Eastern Time). The entire series is also currently available for online streaming on CTV.ca, as part of an ad-supported video on demand service called CTV Throwback.

I think I started somewhere in season 5? So yeah I got a ways to go till it gets back to there again. I like doing it. Off topic...I'm currently watching Mary Tyler Moore at 2 episodes every Sunday, but that board seems deader than Mary which is sad because i'd love to chat about that show.

There was an episode I saw recently where Mary was out all night with a date coming home in the morning wearing the same clothes and I was shocked....just SHOCKED that innocent Mary had a one nighter! I mean it just crushed my whole image of her and I felt like Natalie did with Mrs. G in "Letters" lol. I wanted to race to the MTM board but it would probable be 2030 before someone over there replied back.

I know and made a typo there meaning to suggest the nun sister was one of the step fathers kids.

I'm thinking they just kept Tootie at age 12 for the first 2 seasons and waited till season 3 to start advancing her age since the actress was so young. They had to wait till she grew a little so just put Tootie on "pause" for a couple of years.

George doesn't bother me as much as he does you, but I did thought this was weird. I never walk into my friends house no matter how close we are. It's not polite and plus, it's someone else's house

I like Christmas Baby. It has Marj Dusay in it and it's a Blair episode on top of that. I like Blair's speech to Mrs. Garrett about praying. A lot of people lose faith in time of need and needs that assurance God is always listening.

“Tootie Drives”

This is one of my favorites because I remember watching it when it originally aired and anticipated getting my own drivers license in a few months.

I'm not a big fan of season 7, but this is one of their best episodes. I love how Natalie is hiding in the back of the hearse and the phone rings. Tootie hands it to her and the instructor is freaked out :rotflmao: I also like the songs they picked to play over her driving scenes. It was done really well.

It's going to be nice starting from the beginning again. I just hope any critique of season 1 episodes doesn't offend any hardcore "Lost Girl" fans.

Out of the lost girls, Molly is the only one I think is the worst. It didn't help that they got Molly Ringwald, who I consider a snoozefest of an actress, to play her either. She tried way too hard in that role. When you critique her, don't hold back

I'm glad to see someone sharing my views on Molly Ringwald. I never cared for her and I remember when I was a teen and her films came out, I wondered what all the fuss was about her. To me, she had no appeal and I suspected it was all just media hype rather than fans clamoring for her.

I do like "The Breakfast Club" but that was an ensemble film, but sadly she got most of the attention from it.

And no, I won't hold back, but I will try and be fair. I mean, I don't despise her like I do Clooney.

Sadly, these evil studios rarely bother Close Captioning the extras as if they think the people who need them don't care about watching the extras or we simply don't deserve to view them. I wish there was a class action lawsuit for this because it purposely and clearly excludes a large segment of buyers from fully enjoying the dvd the way it's meant to be. :angryfire

And sure enough I just checked and that really interesting 87 minute documentary on the Season 1 dvd is not captioned. BOO! Hopefully someone threw it up on You Tube.

I like Christmas Baby.

I don't. I love seeing Blair's mom, of course, but I hate the idea of her having a baby.

I'm glad to see someone sharing my views on Molly Ringwald.

Just remember to try and separate Molly Ringwald from Molly Parker. She has some cute/adorable/funny moments. And most importantly, she is a unique character.

I remember when I was a teen and her films came out, I wondered what all the fuss was about her. To me, she had no appeal and I suspected it was all just media hype rather than fans clamoring for her.

I don't think so, looking at her fan base online.

I will try and be fair. I mean, I don't despise her like I do Clooney.

Out of the lost girls, Molly is the only one I think is the worst. It didn't help that they got Molly Ringwald, who I consider a snoozefest of an actress, to play her either. She tried way too hard in that role. When you critique her, don't hold back

“Stake Out Blues”

Wow what a boring episode. I mean a real, don't fall asleep, try to keep your eyes open while you’re watching snoozefest! There’s not even much to talk about with this one. Everyone seemed to sleepwalk through their lines as if they too knew what a sucky, boring episode this was. :sleep2::sleep2::sleep2:

It was so boring even Clooney couldn’t get a rise out of me in this one.

That bad acting detective perked me up for a bit with his weird facial expressions when spouting his lines and Tootie wanting WW2 information got my attention because it was just so absurd. Just open a textbook for God sakes! What the hell was wrong with her here?! I love Tootie but she was acting like a buffoon. Ugh.

Mrs. G was the only bright spot when she entered the scenes and woke things up. When Blair & Jo put her up on the counter I LOL'd. Other than that funny part, it was a total filler episode if there ever was one. I think even Jazzbeau and Brian & Sylvia had more interesting stories than this stinker. Oh well….they can’t all be great!

Oh, I almost forgot in my half sleep….Beverly Ann is mentioned as Mrs. G is packing to make a visit to her recently divorced sister!! A nice foreshadowing of things to come...:beeutiful

“The Agent”

Oh my God no! NO! TWO stinkers in a ROW?! YIKES! I think a shark bit me while watching this one. OUCH! And no Mrs. G to save it either.

Tootie had to be high as a kite to think that cringy comic Bobby was remotely funny. He just annoyed me with those really awful jokes. Maybe Jo accidentally put mind altering drugs into those peanut butter cookies she and Blair were baking and Tootie just ate too much of it.

Speaking of which, that whole cookie side story with Blair & Jo was just dumb. I miss the episodes when all 4 girls are involved in the main story rather than being split up into one main story with another stupid sub plot for comedy relief. It just doesn't work.

And Andy is getting his mail at their house? WHY?! What is that all about? Why is he even there picking up and giving out their mail? Where the hell are this kid’s parents?! It’s so weird that these questions haven’t been addressed and we’re just expected to believe this kid’s unbelievable and unexplained presence among them! My God, someone call Child Services already!

Sadly, the most interesting part of this episode was the supermarket juggler that Natalie booked. And most unbelievable...they turned the shop into a Comedy Club! WTF?! Just...so unbelievably bizarre.

If you guys are saying season 9 gets strange….i’m really bracing myself because it’s already starting to get out there and it’s only season 7!

A better story would've been if Tootie hooked up with a shady agent for herself that scams her and she learns a "Fact of Life" from that. That's another thing, they're not learning their facts anymore but veering into banal sitcom territory. What makes this show so special is how they juggle comedy with drama with the basis being learning life's lessons. Hopefully they veer back to that before it all ends.

Heck, i'd rather have an episode that followed Mrs. G to Appleton, Wisconsin to visit :beeutiful.

Hopefully this is just a minor midseason slump and tomorrow will be better episodes!!

Wow what a boring episode.

Are you kidding?? The detective in that one is my "pick" for Jo's man! But sadly, that's his only appearance.

“The Agent”

Oh my God no! NO! TWO stinkers in a ROW?!

Uh-oh, looks like a certain 50-year-old in Florida is having a Monday on a Thursday!

I miss the episodes when all 4 girls are involved in the main story rather than being split up into one main story with another stupid sub plot for comedy relief. It just doesn't work.

I see what you mean, and I too love their ensemble episodes, but I guess it's natural as you're coming into adulthood to go in a couple of different ways.

Lol, well---and I don't think you'll think this is a big spoilery spoiler or anything, but IIRC, suddenly it's mentioned in an episode without any explanation that, oh, by the way, yeah, now he has foster parents. It seems to take a sudden sharp turn into that.

And most unbelievable...they turned the shop into a Comedy Club! WTF?! Just...so unbelievably bizarre.

Is it? ;) Let's look back at Eastland, shall we? Just off the top of my head they use the cafeteria for:

a comedy club
a gym
an auction
musical auditions
model interview prepping

If that's not a multi-purpose room I don't know what is!

By the by cfr, and I hope this won't make you bang your head on a wall or go and beat a dead horse, but have you noticed they changed the architecture of the store space??

Instead of the EE kitchen door leading back into the kitchen where you would turn right in the kitchen and come to the wall by the stairs, they made the OOH "kitchen/storage" door lead straight back to the wall by the stairs! I never noticed this before until my current screening of (most of) season 8. That means they must have uprooted the street in downtown Peekskill outside the shop and redirected it as well!

I watched The Agent again. This episode was bonkers! Tootie was OBSESSED with getting Robert to do stand-up comedy. Why? Did she have a thing for him? He clearly didn't want to do it, but Tootie kept on pushing and pushing him. I liked Robert, but I don't think he was ready to be a comic, much less Johnny Carson. He was a charming guy, but I really didn't find it funny that he could be a comic. His joke about his race didn't age very well, but these were different times. It takes years, if not decades, for comics to get to that point, and I guess Tootie just didn't understand that success doesn't happen overnight. She even brought an agent from The Tonight Show. This, I found was ridiculous and not believable. How the heck did Tootie get an agent from Johnny Carson that was willing to fly all the way from L.A. to N.Y. to see a guy perform comedy for the first time?! Gimme a freaking break! Then the agent said what he already knew, that he was not going to be on Johnny Carson. Predictable.

The writers must've been sniffing the wood glue that George was using to put together the storefront for Over Our Heads, because some of the ideas for this show in the later seasons were wacky.

7 episodes totally cracks me up! (as usual)

I also would have loved to see an episode (a two part actually) about MRS G going to 'Appleton, Wisconsin' visiting BEVERLY ANN: it would have been so great to see them both interact, and we would have had a first glance at her sister, to get used to the idea that soon she'll be replacing the 'feisty red haired'....

(you wrote down about Italy and France) I'm asking, cos none of my British friends have ever heard of it, and it would help if you told me so i'd know if they were even born or around when FOL was shown on UK television?

You also bring up a great point---where did the "pre-Wiki" set go?? They should have "set" (ha!) it somewhere on set (there's that word again!) for a nice touch.

We had an encyclopedia set at home (one of my grandmothers did some work for one of those companies for a while). I remember being a kid and asking my mom things in the car sometimes, and if she didn't know she'd say "Look it up" lol.

I also remember occasionally being kinda bored at home that I'd take out a volume of the encyclopedia and leaf through it! :read: I did find it interesting how in each volume, it told you the background of that particular letter of the alphabet, including its rank in usage out of all 26 letters!

My grandparents had a set of World Book encyclopedias, so when we were there, I could leaf through them (and often did). As you say, they had those interesting entries about each letter: its rank in usage, the Greek and Phoenician versions, etc. I still have those volumes, although they are quite antiquated, now. Ha! Funny---I don't remember this Tootie part, but I never thought of that while watching, lol. It sounds so odd/funny you're making me wanna see it!

It's funny. In the beginning she's following Mrs. G asking her questions about the war like she was in it lol. Mrs. G is all like "I was a junior in HS!" or something like that. But Tootie wouldn't budge because she NEEDED this WW2 info for her test!
Then she finds out stakeout chick outside in her car (who we never see) is on walkie talkie with Jo's never boyfriend the detective and Tootie hears her say she worked undercover as a history teacher and starts hounding her for WW2 info. It was all so stupid lol. Why was she going through all that damn trouble...just go to the library and leave people alone!

You also bring up a great point---where did the "pre-Wiki" set go?? They should have "set" (ha!) it somewhere on set (there's that word again!) for a nice touch.

That would've been nice to see. Did you notice they took the desk that used to be where that big ugly bench now is and threw it up on the landing over head? There's a big space up there at the top of the stairs and I noticed the desk is sitting up there now. The encyclopedia set would've looked good up there next to the desk.

We had an encyclopedia set at home (one of my grandmothers did some work for one of those companies for a while). I remember being a kid and asking my mom things in the car sometimes, and if she didn't know ,she'd say "Look it up!"

Ha! "Look it up!" had turned into "Google it!":lol:

I had the Britannica Junior Encyclopedia set. It was a beautiful hardcover red set of like 25 or so books which I LOVED and would leaf through in fascination as a kid.
I mentioned my trips here before, but that set is what started my love for travel. When I read about Washington DC in the "W" book and saw the b&w pictures of all the monuments I ached to visit it in person and so I did. I told that story, but it was that Encyclopedia set that started it. Before the Internet, those books were so special to a whole generation of us.

I actually found that "W" book from that same set on E Bay a few years ago and bought it just to always have as a memory since that original set has been long gone for ages. Every now and then i'll pull that book out, flip to the Washington DC pages and i'm 14 all over again. :)

I don't know how soaps survive these days with phones taking away so many plot possibilities that can't be done anymore by their existence. And what I always found funny when I did watch soaps was how someone would enter the room saying to the person "I got your text"....Um, if you got the person's text you would've replied that you were on your way there, so there's no need to say "I got your text" when arriving! You obviously got it if you're there!:lol: So dumb!

Awww! YEP! Those encyclopedias sure were something. Really made kids think about far-off places, all sorts of scientific stuff, and ancient history.

So cool! We had an off-white set, with partially black spines, and gold lettering. The edges of each page were also gilt.

It's so cool to hear about everyone's encyclopedia sets! Wow off white sounds nice. So Retro had off white, 80's had blue and I had red.

But mine was Junior Encyclopedia...We had a grey set from Funk & Wagnalls but I preferred the Junior ones:

Yes, absolutely.

I look at the ones I have and still feel a connection to my grandfather and grandmother, who passed on in 1998 and 2002, respectively. And it's still great too read through them from time to time, even from a historic perspective.

The only difference between my set and the photo I linked is that my set didn't have two "C" volumes; just one very thick C volume.

I hope you're able to collect the rest of your set.

Oh wow, so you still have your set? I'm jealous! They're pretty inexpensive online since they're obsolete and no one wants them, so it would be easy for me to get the whole set on e bay for cheap.

Oh wow, so you still have your set?

Yes, they were a gift from my grandparents in 1995. They knew I loved them, and they couldn't live at home anymore.

I have the set, and then all of the annual yearbooks from 1962 to 1992, when they discontinued them.

It's funny. In the beginning she's following Mrs. G asking her questions about the war like she was in it lol. Mrs. G is all like "I was a junior in HS!" or something like that.

It's coming back to me now!

That would've been nice to see. Did you notice they took the desk that used to be where that big ugly bench now is and threw it up on the landing over head? There's a big space up there at the top of the stairs and I noticed the desk is sitting up there now. The encyclopedia set would've looked good up there next to the desk.

No, I did not notice that! Good eye, cfr! 🧐

[QUOTE=cfr1970;5719567]I don't know how soaps survive these days with phones taking away so many plot possibilities that can't be done anymore by their existence. And what I always found funny when I did watch soaps was how someone would enter the room saying to the person "I got your text"....Um, if you got the person's text you would've replied that you were on your way there, so there's no need to say "I got your text" when arriving! You obviously got it if you're there!:lol: So dumb!

“The Reunion”

I knew this one was coming….a George focused episode. Just kill me now! But I was prepared and took some Dramamine for the 25 minutes of his nonstop head tics.

I remember this from ‘86 when I originally saw it and also from last year's Decades marathon. Surprisingly, George didn’t annoy me too much, (except for bursting in their front door like Kramer! UGH!) but I think I enjoyed it because Nancy M pretty much carried the episode and she’s always a joy to watch.

And she was stunning in that dress with her hair and makeup all done up. Jo really cleans up nicely and it’s really a shame they didn’t allow her to be pretty like this more, but I guess being too pretty wasn’t a trait they wanted highlighted in tough Bronx girl Jo.

The storyline was absurd and no one would do this in real life. If they do, they need to be committed. This is a plot that only happens in sitcom land, but it was done in an entertaining and funny way. I did love how Blair dumped George for the other date. GO BLAIR!!

But she was doing the right thing anyway by sticking with the previous engagement so she wasn't wrong. The bit between Jo & Blair in the closet was funny and also when they revealed to the girl at the reunion that they were roommates the girl’s “That’s disgusting!” was LOL funny.

I had forgotten Nat & Tootie crashed the reunion at the end and it was so like them both to do that. A teenage Lucy & Ethel was just begging to come out of those two. Loved it.

No Mrs. Garrett but still a solid episode. Even with Clooney as a focus here, they still managed to keep the spotlight where it belonged...on the Core Four!! :clap

“Concentration”

This is another one I remember from watching in ‘86. It was around the time I faithfully watched FOL every Saturday night because I had no life and this particular episode was always a favorite and has stayed in my memory.

Sam the elevator man’s story is so heartfelt and sad. And his waiting for that long lost brother, who is most likely dead is really touching. I love in the end when Sam apologizes for Blair missing her important night and she replies thoughtfully “I don’t think I did”.

No Pod Blair/Bootsie here! And she has no qualms changing little Baily’s diaper where Bootsie Blair surely would’ve made a big fuss about that. This is how Blair should always be written instead of reverting her periodically to the shallow character from seasons past.

And Andy….Good Lord why is he there?! WHY?! What reason on earth does this child have to share in Blair’s big night? Doesn’t he have school in the morning? Does he even GO to school? His existence just grows more bizarre with each episode. As I said before, just make him a little brother of one of them who attends nearby Bates Academy to make all this nonsense believable!

Go away Street Urchin. In fact, that's officially his new name from here on out!

So Beverly Ann is already in Peekskill. Uh oh…..she’s getting closer!! :beeutiful

I hated seeing Mrs. G relegated to 1981 Chrissy Snow type phone conversations. SHAMEFUL! Our beloved Mrs. G deserved better than that! And on a rotary phone lol. Those were pretty much gone by 1986! It must've been a leftover prop from the first season in '79.

Oh and Jo….why is she wearing those oversized Bea Arthur outfits?! I mean, they’re 3 sizes too large and she’s swimming in them. It’s a too masculine and unflattering look on her. She's 19 here, not 49!

Anyways, this episode is another personal favorite of mine I could never get tired of watching. :)

Oh, and speaking of personal favorites....I mentioned earlier how "Tootie Drives" is a special one to me, and i'm reading Kim Fields book now and she also says that's one of her personal favorites too!! I was so happy when I read that. :)

Well, not always! :nonono: (except for perhaps The Nancy McKeon Fan Brigade from 20 years past) But really, I just mean each of the girls has "unpleasant" episodes where they are not behaving their best.

Maybe they could have invented a cousin of Jo's to come live and work with them all, a fancy debutante who Nancy could have doubled playing!

I had forgotten Nat & Tootie crashed the reunion at the end and it was so like them both to do that.

It sure was...after all, they crashed The Chugalug 5 years earlier! ;)

The only one I don't like is that 2 parter where she dates the teacher. It's difficult to do with Nancy M, but she's so boring here. Every other episode I like watching her in. Even when she's being "unpleasant".

Maybe they could have invented a cousin of Jo's to come live and work with them all, a fancy debutante who Nancy could have doubled playing!

Seems like it. Mrs. G was supposed to babysit Bailey for Blair's big night, but got lost with Beverly somewhere in New Jersey with her winnebago. I guess Beverly is living in it and just roaming around the eastern states LOL.

 Hey, my grandparents on my dad's side had a rotary phone up through 1990s! TWO in fact!

Mine too until the mid 90's, but in pay phones they were pretty much replaced everywhere with push buttons by the mid 80's.

Well, she has to wear something!

Yeah, but as we saw just in the previous episode in that tight dress, Nancy was not fat and had a nice figure. Why they draped her in Bea Arthur garb is a mystery.
I don't know how TV shows work...do the actors pick out their clothes or does wardrobe dress the actors specifically for the character? If the latter, then we know for a fact that the show was purposely perpetuating the mannish Jo character dressing her that way.
And if these were Nancy M's personal choice of clothes...well, then she just had a screw loose or a major Bea Arthur fixation.

Usually that's all up to wardrobe/producers. One exception I know of is our precious "The Mary Tyler Moore Show", where Cloris Leachman actually wore a lot of her own clothes in the early days because of the show's low budget.

You know you're right! I originally thought Beverly is there in Peekskill and just took Mrs. G out for the evening. But the last episode she went to Appleton to visit her so logically, they're driving back from Wisconsin in the winnebago and got lost in NJ. I had totally forgotten about that Mrs. G going away. Hey cfr1970!

Are you saying BEVERLY ANN is to blame for MRS G's absence on the episode 'Concentration' (when she was supposed to baby sit for BAILEY?)

I agree with you though: this episode is a very emotional one and i kept wishing this man's brother would appear (i almost suspected he'd still be alive, and that the man he saw walking down the street or getting off the car was really his brother)

BLAIR handled her baby sister BAILEY very well indeed (no BOOTSIE or pod needed) but it comes to no surprise for me: she was always good with children, and i'm sure she would have made a great big sister had she had any while she was still growing. BAILEY just came a little late, but we could still see all the love she had for her in some of the later episodes.

On the other hand, i don't remember anything about what JO was wearing: the one i felt had the best sense of fashion on the later seasons was NAT! (after loosing all the weight, she became one of the prettiest and hottest in the fashion industry)

PS: i don't remember at all the episode 'The reunion' (it was probably to boring to pay attention), but was it by any chance the one where GEORGE asks JO to be her 'pretend girlfriend' to make an ex jealous? If so, that's the only part i remember ha ha!

ANDY is the new GEORGE in your eyes now: 'Street Urchin' ha ha ha!

Yes it's the episode where George wants Blair to be his fake girlfriend to impress an old HS flame and Jo takes Blair's place and hilarity ensues. (or it's supposed to lol)

I think how it goes with Mrs. G missing out on babysitting is that she's coming back from Appleton and told Blair she'd get there in time to babysit, and Beverly for some reason or another decided to drive Mrs. G back to Peekskill in her winnebago.

It's kind of a stretch believing they'd drive all the way from Wisconsin to NY, but Beverly was batty from what I remember and Mrs. G probably agreed just to shut her up.

And they got lost somewhere in NJ on the way back home and she missed out to babysit Bailey. The only logical question would now be....where the hell is Beverly from then until Sept. when she makes her appearance?!

This was a 2/8/86 episode and Beverly appears 9/27/86....so she's somewhere close by during those 7 months. I can't believe she drove all the way back to Wisconsin and then back again a few months later.

I need to find an emoji for Street Urchin now lol.

I don't get what you mean? What I do know is they shoved a storeroom where the kitchen was, but i've yet to see the kitchen since the remodel. So far, all they've shown is the storeroom . When they walked through that door behind the counter it led to the storeroom.

Well, now when they walk through that door behind the counter, it goes straight back to the wall against the stairs. That's what I mean! :) I never noticed that before, ever!

Now it makes me wonder if the EE door behind the counter also ran smack into the wall by the stairs?? (disregarding the actual kitchen set---we know that didn't make 100% sense! lol)

I still don't understand what you mean? The wall behind the stairs is where we saw Tootie telling creepy Kevin not to stand in front of the window when it was actually that wall.

So you're saying the door from Over Our Heads now leads to that wall?! If so, that's not correct because I saw Natalie walk through it from the shop and then it cut to her entering from the inside and i'm almost positive it was the same angle as it was from Edna Edibles.

Maybe you're seeing this in season 8 that you're watching? If that's the case, you may be right since I haven't got up to there yet. But in season 7, it's still the same direction as it was for Edna Edibles.

“Atlantic City”

Fun episode with the gang heading to AC to see FOL’s cringiest rock singer “Flyman”!

Uninteresting Side Fact: This episode aired 2/15/86 and I originally watched it sitting in my motel room in Washington D.C eating a cheeseburger and fries from the greasy diner on premises. I specifically remember eating that and watching all the NBC comedy shows that evening. Good memories of one of my teenage getaway trips!

Now back to the program: :typing:

I LOL’d at the opening scene. Tootie is wearing some garish bright green painters overalls that’s a complete “What the hell was she thinking?” 1980’s bad fashion moment. I seriously thought they were painting Over Our Heads when the show started and laughed when I realized this was her regular clothes.

Street Urchin thankfully had only a couple of lines before he’s tossed back onto the streets where he belongs for the rest of the show! Go away little boy! 🏃🏼

Nancy M is once again rummaging through Dorothy Zbornak’s closet. That outfit was so not Jo and I wonder why wardrobe liked to cover her in oversized drapery. It worked well for Bea Arthur, but not on Nancy M.

(I inserted her Bea Arthur outfit pic at the end of the post)

I believe Jo’s character would be wearing dark jeans and a matching dark blazer with a t shirt underneath over those window treatments they made her swim around in. Especially to somewhere like Atlantic City.

Tootie looked great in her outfit and was funny trying to pass herself for a mature adult so she can gamble. She & Natalie’s “Lucy & Ethel” comedy potential should’ve been explored much more. I wanted more of them over the Flyman story.

Blair getting gambling fever was funny, but she's already rich so I would’ve liked to have seen Tootie & Nat hit it big wherever they went and have their cover blown as underage in the end and have to give it all back. That would’ve been funny! Remember Lucy Ricardo in Monte Carlo tossing the chip on the table trying to get rid of it only to keep winning every time she did? I would’ve loved to have seen Tootie doing that LOL.

And why take the bus to AC when Blair has a car? It’s only a 3 hour drive from Peekskill and seems less of a hassle than the bus. Back when I lived in NY we always just hopped in the car and drove down. Hell no to a bus!

Good episode though and was fun enough for me to not even miss the absence of our beloved Mrs. Garrett.

“The Lady Who Came to Dinner”

I enjoyed this one too. Mindy Cohn is strangely absent for the first and only time of the series. I’m curious about the story behind that? Anyone know the dirt if there is any? Or was she just out sick? I think she would've interacted well with the old lady.

The Alice in Wonderland party for Blair was funny and her bemused WTF reaction to it when she entered the party was hysterical. I loved it.

Ugh. Clooney is back :wizard: and Street Urchin dressed like an elf that he calls a munchkin. WHY is this kid at someone’s 21st birthday party?! It makes no sense! He's a child! Doesn’t he have ANY 12 year old friends to play pin the tail on the donkey at parties?! Ugh! Just be gone already.

And speaking of age, if Blair just turned 21 then that means she spent the previous weekend gambling illegally in Atlantic City! Ha!

I liked Louise Le Beau, the “lady” in the episode title. I went to her Wikipedia page and saw she unfortunately passed away of cancer just 7 months after this episode aired. :( :rip:

That son & wife of Louise were creepy as all hell and I was convinced that the wife was an actor in drag because she really looked like one until I went to the IMDB page and saw it was indeed a female.

No Mrs. Garrett again but we saw her sweaters at least when Louise supposedly wore them during her stay. I say supposedly, because I don't think Mrs. G would have word such a brightly colored yellow sweater like that. In fact, I don’t recall ever seeing her in anything bright yellow except for the raincoat in Flash Flood. With her red hair, it’s a color that would look hideous on her.

Overall another pretty good episode especially considering there's no Natalie or Mrs. G. With only 4 episodes to go of this season, i’d say season 7 isn’t half bad at all and for the most part, i’m enjoying it.

And here's Nancy M as Dorothy Zbornak lol:

Well, now I'm confused by what you mean by "it" and "from the inside" and "it". (I'll have to do up a diagram later, lol)

I don't know about that, since I assume the OOH set is the same in 7 and 8. There have been some long shots where you can see the door behind the reigster leads smack into the wall by the stairs. so the set is one long horizontal "plank" in front of the audience. I used to think for EE the set turned downstage like an "L", but it may be the same way. Screen caps and diagrams are needed.

Did you ever see the episode where Dorothy and Blanche wind up wearing the same dress at home for a big event coming up? Rue looked terrible in it, but Bea looked great! The reason he hid from her was because he was embarrassed for her to see him as a lounge singer instead of the rock singer he was in Florida when they met.
Ironically, I liked him better as the lounge singer without wearing ammunition across his chest.

There was depth in a few season 7 episodes:

You had "We Get Letters" which was pretty serious about accusations of infidelity.
Also there was "Out of the Fire" which saw the shop being destroyed. "Teacher, Teacher" where we see Jo being serious about teaching. "A New Life" where Blair's mother is pregnant. "Christmas Baby" is the birth and of course "Concentration".
All those episodes have some depth imo. Then you have a bunch of fun episodes mixed in there, so I think it's a pretty good balance of both for season 7.
And I see "Tootie's Graduation" is coming up and i'm hoping there's some depth to that one.

Tears. TEARS streaming down my face, when I watch that episode, and we get to Phoebe's "pimp spit" monologue, followed by the awkward silence, Phoebe's facial expressions as she realizes she went too far with the story, as she suddenly decides to backtrack to "...so wheh does everyone summuh??":lol::lol::lol:

This is why Lisa Kudrow is underrated. She can deliver those lines while alternately speaking like Phoebe and "Mid-Atlantic Phoebe", still pausing for the audience laughter, and just nails it.

I was THRILLED when she was nominated for Emmys and she finally won one her third time! (I'm pretty sure it was her third) And she's gotten other awards too!

Brilliant. She makes me laugh like no other on there.

Yeah, I can totally see that: her crazy stories and ideas are very Phoebe. The Wookiee call, and the episode where she performs "Ave Maria", partway through changing the lyrics to "Break it down, Mary!" are some very funny examples that come to mind.

I'm beginning to have my doubts whether you will like season 1 at all after enjoying season 7 so much!confused::confused::confused:

i meant, season 7 is alright if you wanna have a laugh, but it has ABSOLUTELY no depth at all (except maybe for the episode 'Concentration)!:eek::eek:

I’m sure he’ll like season 1. You can still like the later seasons and be a fan of season 1. As long as Molly doesn’t turn him off that is. If it wasn’t for Lisa and Kim, I wouldn’t rewatch season 1 in my rotation viewing.

I’m not a huge fan of season 7. There’s some episodes that are really good. It’s a lot better than season 9. Not as good as season 8 though.

UGH! TERRIBLE episode! One of the WORST of the entire series! BLECH! The plot is absurd and the whole thing is just so boring and dumb. I mean this is scraping the bottom of the barrel sitcom comedy here. From the great episodes in seasons 2 and 3 to this banal crap is really jarring when you compare it!

So “Howieland” is a Disney type theme park coming to the Peekskill area that’s feared will leave Peekskill a “ghost town” and taking away all the city’s business. LOL @ that....Peekskill is a big city in it’s own right and even if a Disney type place came to that area, the city would be just fine. Talk about reaching!

They act like they’re living in the middle of nowhere and Peekskill is the only civilization for miles around. My side hurts laughing at the absurdity of it.

Natalie has had enough and won’t take it anymore dammit, and decides to run for mayor of Peekskill to save the town. (LOL) There’s a whole side plot where Tootie is filling the shop with Howieland merchandise when the park hasn’t even broken ground yet. Ok.

And to make this episode even worse, Street Urchin 🏃🏼 is in nearly every scene raising even more questions of his existence like why is he in the shop with the girls at midnight waiting for “Sore Throat” who we all knew from the get go was Blair with the worst hairstyle i’ve ever seen Lisa Whelchel in the entire series. It was amazing just how UGLY that style was on her. I mean it was so bad, it looked like a wig!

Street Urchin goes with them for the debate at a studio (no school?!) and Street Urchin is there to watch the election results at the house….It’s now apparent this little waif now lives there with them since he’s apparently there around the clock! puke:

A terrible episode all around and the ending was just abrupt and dumb. No Mrs. G and thank God for that because I wouldn’t want to have seen her being a part of this debacle. The whole episode was a big fat train wreck! Even the absence of Clooney didn’t make this one any more enjoyable for me. Just bad bad bad and one I don’t care to ever watch again. Negative 100 stars for this one!

Oh and LOL at Natalie picking up the cordless phone, raising the antenna and just talking. You have to press the button on the handset first to pick up the call! She does it twice too! Just picks it up like it’s a corded phone and starts talking after raising the antenna. That doesn’t connect the call you nitwit, you still had to press the button on the receiver to connect!

Next up was:

“Big Time Charlie”

A GOOD ONE! YAY!! :yippee:

Jo’s Dad wins $300K in the PCH Sweepstakes and hilarity ensues.

It’s always nice seeing Jo’s Dad because you know the episode’s gonna be good. He was so great as Jo’s father.

Tootie right from the start is bitching like a lunatic about her camera being lent to Natalie. It was bizarre and annoying. Why they had her acting so neurotic about it from the opening scene like that was weird. And she doesn’t even greet Natalie upon her return from Florida and is all like “Where’s my damn camera bitch?” Chill OUT Tootie! Even Natalie was all WTF is wrong with you?!

And wasn’t Natalie home last week when the week before she was in Florida visiting her Grandma? So she basically came home, and stayed a few days to run for Peekskill Mayor and then whisked right back to Florida for a wedding?! HUH?!

Anyway, back to the main story. Jo’s Dad goes apeshit buying gifts for Jo which makes her feel uncomfortable. And why he thought she’d ever wear a full length mink fur is beyond my comprehension. He knows her better than that and I doubt he would buy something like that for her. Blair yes, but not Jo.

Speaking of Blair, her hair is thankfully passable in this episode. What they were doing in that stylists room backstage is anybody’s guess. But there sure was a lot of experimenting going on with Lisa Whelchel’s hair that season.

I love her line after Jo calculates that Dad spent $120,000 in a week and she’s like “That beats MY record.” LOL.

And Natalie’s line on finding out Dad won all that money “Now we don’t have to be as nice to Blair.” LMAO!! Funny!

More gift buying ensues, with a bunch of sweaters in every color because the saleslady at Macy's said Jo “looks good in everything”….causing Tootie to utter “That’s ridiculous!” LMAO! MEOW! Jo shoots her a glare and Tootie's all "Oh crap, did I say that out loud?"

More gifts come and she gets a nice motorcycle helmet which is much more something her Dad would buy her. In the end when offering the mink to be returned and giving the car keys back, she’s all “You’re not getting the helmet back”. Ha!

Street Urchin 🏃🏼 makes his appearance playing detective to find out where the missing suitcase with Tooties godforsaken camera went. His presence just gets more annoying with each episode and the whole side story of the camera/suitcase is dumb.

Otherwise, this is a very solid and funny episode with some drama at the end when Dad tells Jo he lost the rest of the money in an orange crop in FL that died. BTW, anybody with half a brain knows if you’re going to invest big bucks, you do it in real estate. As Bugs Bunny said...what a maroon!

Nice ending between Dad and Jo in the final scene and a very good episode with a few genuine LOL moments.

Oh and once again Nancy M is wearing clothes 10 sizes too big for her. You could’ve fit 3 people in what she was wearing. She wasn’t fat or pregnant so it’s one big mystery there. Lisa Whelchel seems to be the only one wearing fitted clothing lately.

If anyone ever been to Peekskill, they would find the concept of a theme park there ridiculous. Peekskill is in the mountains and is a small city (about 35,000). There is no place to put a big time theme park there.

Yeah, with the mountains around there it would have to be a really small park and nowhere near the Disney type kind they were referring to. The biggest amusement park in that area is Rye Playland (great place!) and about 35 mins south of Peekskill.

Rabbit SKIN?! You mean like just the skin and fur of the rabbit? I'm trying to picture it. Was it just a big clump of rabbit fur that you petted?:lol:

I had a bunch of rabbits foot key chains in all different colors as a kid. I used to love them and hook them on my belt loop, but now just the thought of that grosses me out so much! How barbaric to carry a dead animals foot around with you...and for luck.

I'm glad I brought back a long lost memory!:wave:

Rabbit SKIN?!

LOL, yes!! Molly Parker would rake me over the coals for that!! (but I didn't "make" it, I just bought it!)

You mean like just the skin and fur of the rabbit? I'm trying to picture it. Was it just a big clump of rabbit fur that you petted?:lol:

Well, it wasn't a "clump", it was "flattened out" (that probably doesn't help my case! lol)

Yeah, I would pet it...gosh...I can remember the white-colored bottom of it. That gray rabbit skin was so soft and furry! YIKES!

I'm glad I brought back a long lost memory!:wave:

Me too!! That was WILD! I'm telling you, my sister and I have ENORMOUS memory banks of growing up, and I can't believe I had forgotten all about that! I'm still stunned!! I mean, for Pete's sake, I NEVER hunted an animal, was kind of a happy-go-lucky fantasy/imagination kid, and here I had a RABBIT SKIN!! How could I forget that?!? LOL

Thanks again!

I definitely had the rabbit's foot keychain, and also a rabbit skin, although I think the one I had was black/dark brown. Kinda crazy what was cool back then. And that you could just purchase animal parts anywhere.:lol:

Okay, I can see what you mean by a towel (but it's around her body, not her shoulders) and steam, but going in front of her, not next to her face and upper chest (you may be looking at it on a different platform?). But is with the spoon/ladle??? That is so weird!!

Different operating systems show some emojis differently. What I see has no ladle (which is used to make more steam in a sauna). You are seeing a different version (https://emojipedia.org/woman-in-steamy-room/) than Lorimar.

Lol, well, I don't necessarily think so. I think it is a WILD coincidence. I didn't know any other kids that had an animal skin (and here I did---me!)

Besides, none were ever shown on sitcoms that I know of either.

“The Graduate”

“Natalie….I’m moving in with you!” LOL! I loved how this one ended!

Our little Tootie is finally the last to fly Eastland's nest! Kim’s real life Mom Chip Fields joins in the celebration as Tootie’s mother to ensure she stays the course and goes to college and law school like a good little girl, but Tootie of course has different plans and wants to hit the road….And as Mrs. Garret so hilariously said…”The Yellow Brick Road!” pickle:

It's a great episode and I like seeing Kim & her Mom working together as mother/daughter. After reading Kim’s book, I have a newfound respect for her.

Charlotte Rae thankfully returns for the graduation but i’m a bit confused here. Just a couple of episodes ago she was traveling around New Jersey with Beverly in a winnebago and now she’s flying in from Wisconsin? They seem to have poor Mrs. G all over the damn map lol.

And Tootie specifically says to her “Thanks for making it here for my graduation.” HUH?! It sounds like Mrs. G is LIVING in Wisconsin rather than just visiting. It’s all very weird and confusing just what the hell is going on there.

Speaking of confusing, Tootie and Mom clash about her career path and I remember not too long ago they already had that conversation how Tootie didn’t want to be a lawyer and wanted to be an actress. I remember they had that talk up in her bedroom, so Mom either forgot or is still pushing for her to be a lawyer.

Real life Mom of Kim did have her go to college in order to always have something to fall back on if acting didn’t last forever, which is good advice and I wondered why it wasn’t incorporated into this story too.

Show Diane instilling the same thing for Tootie….support her acting desire, but push for college but drop the push for law school to only if she wanted it. Tootie’s Mom seems just a tad too domineering, but she did loosen up at the end when she said she would've supported her had she gone on the road for The Wiz.

Jo & Blair were window dressing in this one and Street Urchin was SO annoying here. My God just GO AWAY little boy! He really grates on my nerves with his stupid lines...his trying to pick up 17 year old girls at a graduation party was so unfunny and lame. They should’ve just given him the week off, but I can't help but wonder if Patty Duke had some kind of influence and they kept him on the show to please her.
Otherwise, he really has no reason to be there. Just none at all. It's such a thankless and annoying character. Wasn't there any openings at Nickelodeon?!

Now back to happy stuff....or not...Natalie’s toast at the end of the episode was SO selfish. Way to make Tootie’s graduation moment all about her. I couldn’t believe how she just waved away Tootie’s moment with that toast and quickly brought everything to her. And really….did she think the whole graduation party really cared to hear her little announcement? Not the time and place you selfish woman! :schmack:

Tootie got back at her with that last line that made me LOL…..Tootie decided she needs to get her “Grit” and dammit she’s gonna get it living with Natalie!! A good episode and one I really enjoyed. Should've been the final episode of the season and left it with that little cliffhanger.

“The Apartment”

And the next episode is quite the letdown from the last episode’s great ending. (But aren't all cliffhangers a bust when they resume in the next episode?) I expected this to be better and much more fun. Natalie & Tootie living in their own apartment should’ve been freaking hilarious! I could’ve written so many funny scenarios for those two gals on their own sharing an apartment. But instead it was all a boring bust.

The only funny part was when cat lady Estelle heard Blair call her neighbors deadbeats and we hear her shout from upstairs “Same to you lady!”

We get to see how Blair & Jo handle living together all alone in the house with just the two of them and it was a little awkward how they seemed to depict them like an old married couple with hardly anything to say to each other. It was all a little uncomfortable to watch because Blair acted like the neglected wife to Jo’s ignoring husband. Just so weird! Where the hell is Mrs. Garrett to break all this awkwardness!

Oh, that's right....she flew BACK to Wisconsin right after Tootie’s graduation! Does Mrs. G suddenly hate her girls? Is Beverly on her deathbed and needs Mrs. G there? It’s never explained why she keeps up and leaving them for Wisconsin. Better writing was sorely needed here. It’s as if the writers just didn’t care one way or the other anymore. At least we got a Chrissy Snow telephone conversation with her. Hey, it was better than nothing.

Thankfully, Nat & Tootie had enough of grit and moved back to the house and everything is comfy cozy again with the gang all together. It was an ok episode that could’ve been really funny and interesting having the group split in half and living separately, but it all was one big fizzling bust.

This was the final episode of season 7 and I would’ve preferred it had ended with Tootie’s graduation instead of this halfhearted mess that had so much more potential. Oh well....

Tomorrow starts season 8.....And the introduction of :beeutiful.

I would've too if she didn't up and leave again in the following episode. Mrs. Garrett was so already gone by this point. I'm surprised they didn't rent out her room or have the Street Urchin move in there.

There was definitely favors being given behind the scenes. This kid's presence just didn't fit with these grown girls and it's strange how this was apparently the only vehicle available for that little boy. I guess he wasn't good enough for The Goonies.

And now you really HATE 'street Urching' so much GEORGE must be mild next to him ha ha!

And yes, the fact that MRS G had distanced herself so much from her girls and seemed so detached, is the MAIN reason i disliked season 7 so much:
To me, FOL was always based on MRS G as the ingredient of the show and the one everyone always sought for advice, and once she turned into a real POD aka STEPFORD WIFE (even scarier in a way) the rest remains no coexistent to me....

That's probably why i blocked out most of the season 7 episodes now that i think about it: seeing MRS G acting so ALOOF depressed me so much i decided to forget about it, and the sad thing is that by the time season 8 begins, we see a bit of her old self (instead of the POD STEPFORD) but by then it's only a brief appearance, and time for GOODBYE:(

Yeah, even when Tootie went to her for advice in The Graduate I got excited to see Mrs. G doing what she does best...and it just wasn't the same. She was POD Edna by this point. The Reelz documentary basically confirms this: John Astin was on the show, he and Charlotte were old friends, and soon a part was written for his son.

I'm only looking forward to season 8 because people here say it's better than 7 and since I pretty much liked 7 overall, that tells me i'm probably going to love season 8.

It seems some here have no love for season 7 but as critical as I can be, it really wasn't too bad a season save for a midseason slump with a couple of stinkers, and Mrs. G fading into oblivion. (but that's not the fault of the show since Charlotte of course wanted out).

I'm told here that the gang is mostly in stories together for 8 and not separated which i'm definitely looking forward to. I also want to see Beverly from her introduction and how she progresses with the girls as the season goes on. And there's less George Clooney! So lots to look forward to there!

Tomorrow is the full hour of Mrs. Garret's final departure and Beverly's arrival and it's grocery shopping day so i'm going to do my damndest to get my butt back home by 3pm!!

They actually count how many people can shop in the stores now so if there's more than their magic number, you have to wait outside in a line like the bread lines of 1980's Russia.

I haven't noticed cuts (but then I wouldn't know what i'm missing if I never seen them before!) When I get the complete series i'm going through it all to see if there's anything i've missed.

I wish other hardcore fans were tuning into Antenna TV and could catch any edits and then come here to say "That whole 5 minute scene where Mrs. G has a heart to heart talk with <insert girls name> is missing!"

He's a Sun Conure who actually turns 15 in May. His name is Bruce (Petco named him that and I kept it) I've had him since he was 6 months old and he's my little buddy.
