I was really wanting to watch and review "IQ" today but have been feeling like crap most of the day with no appetite, a slight cough and also shortness of breath so of course my mind if filled with virus thoughts. Thankfully I don't have a fever, (I've been checking hourly!) but I didn't want to watch FOL while i'm preoccupied by this. I just couldn't enjoy it if my mind is having all these nightmare scenarios lol.

I made an appointment for tomorrow to get myself tested for it and also a checkup and take things from there. I half wonder if it's anxiety, especially after what's going on out there currently. I can only look at headlines for a couple of minutes before clicking the news site off and I won't even dare turn on TV news. So it may be all that is just making me anxious so it may be a few days until I do my next review!! Not to worry because I have no plans on going anywhere! I just rather watch the next episodes feeling 100% and not preoccupied with scary thoughts to ruin my watching. :)

I just read your post valentina and agree with everything. Season 1 really is great and I like the Lost Girls...well, 3 of them anyway lol...and can't wait to get back to the reviews!!

I have to say that i am beginning to agree with Retro on that one: season 1 is now at the top of my list as my FAVOURITE season along the pilot!!!!
I have been rewatching it again, and even though i didn't grow up with it (cos they didn't show it in the country i was living at the time) it reminds me so much of my own childhood,and how easy and innocent life was back then....
It was still a time where facial and mimic expression were a part of the acting (unlike nowadays when people crack a stupid joke and everyone laughs) and the dialogues were natural and not forced.

You raise a good point about facial expressions being an important part of older shows. I totally see what you're saying.

And it definitely was a more innocent, simpler time.

SUE ANN is the kindest and nicest girl anyone would want to have as a best friend: i know she is supposed to be CINDY's best friend, but i feel that she is torn between BLAIR and CINDY (concerning the friendship).
In fact, i always felt that SUE ANN was a great foil for BLAIR: not only was she kind, but she also knew how to handle the rebellious BLAIR in her own way.

I do feel like Sue Ann made the best foil for Blair. And, as you said, she was a terrific friend to both Cindy and Blair.

I tend to disagree on that. You're the second generation to watch FOL, but us first generation who watched it live from the start each week grew up the same time as they did.

So by the time FOL was nearing it's end, i'd guesstimate that a huge bulk of viewers were reaching their adulthood years themselves and had tuned out. I'm sure many were in college and working and very few were sitting in Saturday nights to catch the latest FOL episode. Maybe a small minority of the dateless and people with no lives still hung on till the last episode. :lol:

But my point is, that I think most original viewers who were 10, 11, 12 when the show began were now 19, 20 and 21 and long gone from watching so they couldn't care less if the Core Four were abducted by aliens in the final episode...which actually still would've been better than what they gave! :lol:



Well, some were still watching and certainly did care, because they were voicing their frustrations here about 20 years ago.

It doesn't matter when you watch the series. If you watch it all the way through, you will be utterly disappointed by what they did for a "series finale".

Tootie may have been 10 here, but the skates help a lot to make her appear older and she hardly looks 9 like Blossom did in the series finale. Maybe Blossom should’ve worn those skates too.

You will notice a lot more heavy jokes about her in s1, then at the start of s2 there are many references to her slimming down.

This is true, cfr. When I did a "running commentary" here on season 1 when I binged the series a couple years ago, I included a tally of "Plump Rump" references in my episode thoughts, lol.

It struck me while watching Rough Housing though, that Cindy had some Jo qualities about her, and had Jo never came along, I think Cindy would've been BLAIR'S foil. But perhaps the writers didn't want 2 blonds against each other. :lol:

But when Cindy told BLAIR she would punch her face in or something like that, that was definitely shades of Jo there.

Yeah, but I don't think Cindy could ever be taken seriously as a foil for Blair. She's too small! It's so laughable when she looks all the way up at taller Blair and threatens her in her little voice. Jo was Blair's height (or at least a lot closer to it) and she was definitely believable as a a punk who could be triggered to go off.

There are a few examples where I feel like Mrs. Garrett is quite the skilled manipulator. "Give and Take" (S03 E06) is one example. That's the Howard Johnson's episode.

Miss Mahoney is just there and I can see why she was axed after this season….her character is pretty useless so I see why they cut the rope with that one.

Oh and Tootie is here before her braces and from what I see her teeth look perfectly fine. I read in her book she mentions that in hindsight, she probably didn’t even need those braces, and I tend to agree. I don’t see any huge overbite or defects there.

Alright, you did ask: In the recent Reelz documentary, Jenny O'Hara reveals that she left the show because there was tension between her and Charlotte. She said she wanted more interaction with the girls, and Charlotte didn't want that. She said she felt a coldness coming from Charlotte. Nothing was ever said, but Jenny quietly asked the producers to write her out, and they did. FOL lost their first major character after just four episodes.

Jenny never spoke about this until now, as far as we're aware.

And see, cfr, I disagree with him. I think she left because the writing of her character and her character's position in the show was not working out. I think the coldness from Charlotte was a contributing factor, but not the sole reason.


She said she wanted more interaction with the girls, and Charlotte didn't want that.

And of that in particular, I'm not sure if Jenny actually stated that second part? I just don't remember for sure because I haven't watched it in a while. I know Jenny said she (Jenny) definitely felt that she shouldn't intrude on Charlotte's territory, which was "any nurturing" of the girls.

The good thing about season 1 are the GREAT dialogues and the expression on every character's face: i'm not saying season 2 isn't good, but there isn't an episode that bores me on the 13 episodes in this season.

On season 2 though, i don't like ALL the episodes like i do on season 1 sorry.... There are SOME episodes that i find BORING on season 2, whereas on season 1 they are ALL great and very entertaining!!! (i think Christopher will definitely NOT agree with me on that one)

It's not right for a salary dispute between her and Mr. Parker to be taken public, in front of students. Even though we know Mrs. Garrett is worth every penny (and far more!).

By bringing up eating dog food in front of the girls, Edna makes one of the few mistakes I think she makes in her career: she's making everyone feel terrible when the only one who needs to feel bad is Mr. Parker, for not backing her up sooner.

But after all the mistakes Mr. Parker, Mr. Bradley, Mr. Crocker, etc., make, this is a small one. Still, it's not right that she involved students in her struggle with that sort of imagery. And I say this as "just" a teacher. ;)

She's left with her girls and the show ends...and this is the kind of endings I remember, where the credits roll but everyone is still in character doing things that we're not privy to hear but just watch them all move in character as the words roll by. I like this much better than the freeze frames of later seasons.

Well then enjoy it while it lasts, cause it won't be long! (I'm talking, like, "a few episodes" long! lol)


So that's the 3rd episode and so far I like them all. There's a light and fun feel to the episodes that weren't found in the later seasons and I crave that kind of lightness especially so soon after enduring that. This is a breath of fresh air in comparison!

Yup...though interestingly, this is Retro's favorite season, which you describe as light, but he doesn't like the lightness of the later seasons.

By the way cfr, did you notice a rare misstep by Kim in TRoMG a.k.a. TtCS? (lol) When she goes, "N-not that we were listening!", it's really bad acting. One stumbling block from such an accomplished young actress!

It's rare that I literally laugh out loud at sitcoms but this show made me with almost all the episodes.

Yes, laugh out loud funny. It was my downstairs neighbors who turned me on to the show. They knew my love of sitcoms and recommended it to me.

I dunno, I think Mrs. Garrett looks more "old fashioned" in season 1, whereas I think she looks older in season 2 with her deflated face after losing so much weight. But eventually it all comes together and settles in nicely.

CINDY is also a very lovable character (in fact i like her a bit more than JO) and i could have also see her as a foil to BLAIR, but in a less rough manner than JO. She was the athletic one, and i really believe she had potential in her own subtle way: she delivered such great lines and acting capacity on her first episode on FOL, as BLAIR vs!!!!
In a way i would have really LOVED to see more fights between BLAIR and CINDY, with MRS G stepping between them and making things right again (like her usual self).:nonono::nonono:

You raise a good point about facial expressions being an important part of older shows. I totally see what you're saying.

Beverly Archer (Iola) says that about "Mama's Family" in their roundtable panel reunion/discussion. She brings up how one important factor to the show was the physical exaggeration of their comedy, their expressions. And she's right. That's one reason that show makes me laugh SO much---the expressions are a big part of it, especially Mama and Iola!!

Yes but the main plots are more the first three minus one Ep each

But Cindy, Molly, and Natalie all have one episode in the 1980 shows (though Cindy co-stars in hers with Sue Ann).

We definitely see Nancy's part reduced and Blair's role expanded further, even after the script was written.

For example, in the script for "Dope", there's a half a page of dialog (page 14) which explains why the girls in "The Group" don't want Nancy in their clique: it's because Roger's a "townie". This is cut from the final version, as if maybe they were short on time.

Then, later on in the same episode, the scene with Nancy having her possessions checked (bottom of page 35) is also cut. This is the part where we learn that Nancy likes trashy romance novels, which we never find out on the show itself. You can actually see Felice start to get off the bed to deliver her lines, so it seems to me this part of the scene was cut in post-production.

But then, at the end of the script, Blair and Sue Ann get additional lines which were not in the script we have, thanking each other for covering for one another.

This is just one example of many, where we see (mostly) Nancy getting Nancied. (We see the same thing happen to Molly in "The New Girl, part 2".)

So if Roger was a townie, that probably means he went to the local high school (Peekskill) and not Bates Academy. Townie was a term we used in college to described students from the city it was in or lived in a community close by.

Perhaps that is why we never saw Roger. Either he was intimidated into not going on the snoodie campus or Nancy O. didn't want the girls outside of the dorm to know she was dating a public school boy.

Happy update: Woke this morning feeling almost normal and took the test where doc checked breathing and blood oxygen and all was normal and he said no need for a chest x ray. Boy was I ecstatic! It takes about 5 days for the results and I don't care which way it goes...though i'm kind of hoping it's positive so I don't have to fear getting it anymore.

Test and checkup was all free too which shocked me, so I walked to the Walmart across the street and picked up a Final Destination 5 movie dvd pack for 10 bucks with the money I saved. :lol:

Appetite came roaring back too and i'm stuffing myself silly to make up for the weekend haha. Will watch IQ today since i'm feeling so much better!

Oh, gosh...when I'm asked these questions I feel like I'm being taken by surprise on a talk show! :lol:

I dunno, I think Mrs. Garrett looks more "old fashioned" in season 1, whereas I think she looks older in season 2 with her deflated face after losing so much weight. But eventually it all comes together and settles in nicely.

When I had to watch Antenna TV it was only on weekdays but since getting the dvd's i'm thrilled to be able to watch on weekends too. Why is that not good for you? I hated being chained to the TV between 3-4PM each weekday. It was hell. :lol:

Yes I LOVE the Final Destination films. Can you believe the first one came out 20 years ago already? I remember when I saw it in theaters way back in 2000. :lol:

I hadn't planned to buy it but when I saw all 5 films for $10 bucks I had to pick it up. That's only 2 bucks per film.

I'm almost finished with the Friday the 13th films. I just have Jason X to go and then I start the Nightmare on Elm St. films....and after those i'll do the Final Destinations...enough to keep my Saturday nights busy for the rest of the year. :lol:

It’s midterm time at Eastland and everyone is studying up for their tests….in the lobby? I guess the lobby is where they do just about everything lol. Blair and Sue Ann come out from the kitchen that we never see, with a tray of “energy food” for their studying pleasure and Mrs. G sends them all upstairs to study where they belong...finally, someone who knows what a lobby is for!

Blair offers Mrs. G some of her avocado spread, to which she declines pointing to her own “avocado spread” on her backside. Oh my! I wonder how Charlotte felt having to say that and it was probably what made her go on a diet! The writing team shamed her into it! Yikes! :eek:

Nancy comes downstairs to ask for Sue Ann’s help studying because she’s her “security blanket” and it’s assumed she’s the smartest…(Ha! Not for long sweetheart!)

Mr. Bradley comes in and chats with Mrs. G about her flying lessons...(more on that later) and soon after the Chihuahua enter nipping at his heels, (she's never far behind from Mr. Bradley is she?!) and Mr. Bradley is given the IQ scores of the students that he sent out for and says all of them are the best IQ scores in the entire state of boarding schools. This makes me wonder why Sue Ann was so upset about being the lowest...because even at the lowest of her school, it’s still the highest in the state so it can’t be THAT low. :confused:

In fact, it must still be pretty high and it’s odd that Mr. Bradley doesn’t mention this to Sue Ann to ease her worries that she’s dumb later on.

Anyway, Tootie comes rolling on on her skates, makes the Chihuahua yelp and bumps into everyone, and the IQ scores go flying in the air---Mr. B picks the papers up and he and the Chihuahua leave with Mrs. G in tow to relieve a teacher...who has to relieve herself lol.

Tootie picks up a paper left behind that just happens to have ALL the girl’s scores on them and can’t believe when she sees who’s the smartest and who’s the dumbest! :eek:

She can’t wait to roll upstairs to tell everyone...and btw how the hell does this girl go UP stairs in skates?! No school would allow this for the liability factor alone. I’m sure the school made her parents sign a waiver alleviating responsibility of the school if she broke her neck but her lawyer Mom would probably find loopholes in it and still sue anyway. :lol:

So Tootie enters the room where the girls are and happily announces that she has everyone’s IQ scores and gleefully shares them one at a time. Blair is just happy the score is more than her weight. (whatever, I really don’t understand that lol), Molly just gasps (for the first time this girl is speechless?), Cindy is happy with hers, and Nat & Tootie have the same score and Nat is all “I knew we were soul sisters!” and they are both are giddy with delight at having the same score. Ha! :crazy:

Which leads me to a memory of when me and my friend bought an IQ test at the bookstore when we were 22 and took it together. When the time was up and we finished, we compared scores and to my utter dismay, found out we got the exact same score!
Unlike Nat & Tootie though, I was upset because I wanted to be smarter than my friend and didn’t want her to be as intelligent as me LOL. I know that’s bad of me, but we would always debate things and it would’ve been nice to rub in her face if I was even ONE point more than her in intelligence...but the SAME?!

There’s no face rubbing in that now that she was my equal. YUCK! She found it victorious that she had the same number as me and wound up rubbing MY face in it so in effect, I felt like I lost something there lol. It’s twisted I know...but anyway...back to the show. (Oh the score was I think 145---I know it was in the 140’s so i'm going to stick with 145..but if she was just ONE point below me I would’ve been so thrilled! lol...I know that's not nice!)

Ok, now we get to Sue Ann who sees she has the lowest score in the school while Nancy is actually the highest. Sue Ann is devastated and Molly finally decides to speak by saying “Don’t feel bad about being the dumbest person in school”....wow, what a bitch! For someone who’s this social justice feminist, she really knows how to make someone feel like crap. Where’s all her equality bull crap now?! Shouldn’t she be trying to raise Sue Ann up instead of tearing her down even more? Bad Molly! :mad:

So the rest of the episode is Sue Ann so upset that she’s “stupid” and wants to leave Eastland. But wait...now Nancy wants to leave Eastland too because it’s too much pressure being the smartest. What?!

Really...she can’t handle it and freezes up when people ask her for help. They both just want things to go back to the way they were. Then it turns out they BOTH wind up failing the midterm because Nancy froze up and Sue Ann was answering questions that weren’t really questions lol. God, just knowing their IQ scores led to so much trouble for them!

Again, Sue Ann's score COULDN’T have been that low if they were all the highest in the state! All she had to do was look up the score on the scale and see where she was in the whole scheme of things and i’m sure she would’ve been happy again! Ugh.

Oh, Tootie got in trouble for revealing the IQ scores and has to write out 500 times “I will not be nosy” which she tries doing with 499 dittos under the sentence once lol.

Mr. Bradley was having none of that and told her to start over. Then Mrs. G comes in the classroom with Nancy & Sue Ann and throws in his face what his sending out for IQ scores have done to her girls.

Now this is where I disagree with Mrs. G. There’s nothing wrong with him sending out for the scores and the girls were NOT supposed to ever see them. It was only because of Tootie that they did, so Mrs. G was misdirecting her anger at him when it was Tootie who really was to blame here. Not him.

In the end it seemed a way for the show to send the message that IQ scores don’t carry any weight and I believe they do and that they should be given in schools. But in today's society where standards are completely thrown out the window, who am I to say anything?

Now anybody can get into any college no matter what their level of intelligence is or how smart they are. I think I read recently they’re not doing SAT’s anymore...it’s insane what they’re doing! But I digress….this is probably where it all started...in a 1979 FOL episode. Ha!

So Mrs. G dares Mr. Bradley to take an IQ score with her---and the Chihuahua just happens to have a copy of the test to read the questions to the both of them while they sit and write down the answers.

Mr. Bradley stumbles while Mrs. G giddily answers while giving snarky commentary towards Mr. B and I really don’t like this scene or how Mrs. G is acting here. It’s low class and smug. But her point is made when Mr. B stumbles on the questions and says he had enough. He crumbles his paper and says IQ scores mean nothing. Oh good lord! So now they mean nothing just because he couldn’t answer a few questions on it?! LOL...ok.

It’s decided that Nancy & Sue Ann can take their midterms over again because they were under that IQ pressure before and now can relax and easily pass it. Nancy says she;ll get a 95 and Sue Ann is like “I’ll get a 96!” lol...just like me and my friend….that ONE point does mean everything you know!!

Mrs. G goes off for her solo airplane flying….she’s apparently taking lessons and I don’t know if we ever learn if she gets her flying license? There’s a whole other episode right there! “Mrs. Garret, the Red Baron”!

Off she goes into the wild blue yonder….while poor Tootie is still writing her 500 “I will not be nosy”...which doesn’t ever sink in because I think she reads Natalie’s diary later on? Someone reads her diary….was it Blair? Oh well…. It’s coming up soon and i’ll see.

So this was another good one. I’m enjoying the whole season and Sue Ann was the lead in this one and I liked her and pictured what she would’ve been like had she stayed on. Nancy is ok, but her facial expressions do seem amateurish (it;s not a slam on her as I know she’s adored here...no hammers please!)....but in comparison, Sue Ann is the better actress imo and I could see her fitting in during the Cafeteria Years….Cindy again had not much to do and Molly annoyed me calling Sue Ann dumb the way she did. It was a bitchy way to say it and irked me.

Blair had her short shorts on in the beginning where her avocado dip plate was sitting on her bare thighs and she admired herself in the mirror doing like 3 double takes at herself. That’s even too much for Blair!

Miss Mahoney (Chihuahua) had a much bigger part than previous episodes, and now that I know Charlotte Rae probably hated her guts I was watching her in the scene with Miss M to see if any of it was detectable. They really never interacted more than a couple of words so it was hard to tell.

Is this her final appearance? Someone said only 4 episodes she’s in before she disappears? Oh well...off to The King of Queens she went where she found much better success because she was great as Doug’s Mom.

So it’s 4/4 that I like….I think i’m going to enjoy the whole season if it keeps at this pace. It’s really a lot of fun so far! :lol::happyface:wave:

So it’s 4/4 that I like….I think i’m going to enjoy the whole season if it keeps at this pace. It’s really a lot of fun so far!

Happy update: Woke this morning feeling almost normal and took the test where doc checked breathing and blood oxygen and all was normal and he said no need for a chest x ray. Boy was I ecstatic! It takes about 5 days for the results and I don't care which way it goes...though i'm kind of hoping it's positive so I don't have to fear getting it anymore.

Test and checkup was all free too which shocked me, so I walked to the Walmart across the street and picked up a Final Destination 5 movie dvd pack for 10 bucks with the money I saved. :lol:

Appetite came roaring back too and i'm stuffing myself silly to make up for the weekend haha. Will watch IQ today since i'm feeling so much better!

It’s midterm time at Eastland and everyone is studying up for their tests….in the lobby? I guess the lobby is where they do just about everything lol. Blair and Sue Ann come out from the kitchen that we never see, with a tray of “energy food” for their studying pleasure and Mrs. G sends them all upstairs to study where they belong...finally, someone who knows what a lobby is for!

Blair offers Mrs. G some of her avocado spread, to which she declines pointing to her own “avocado spread” on her backside. Oh my! I wonder how Charlotte felt having to say that and it was probably what made her go on a diet! The writing team shamed her into it! Yikes! :eek:

Nancy comes downstairs to ask for Sue Ann’s help studying because she’s her “security blanket” and it’s assumed she’s the smartest…(Ha! Not for long sweetheart!)

Mr. Bradley comes in and chats with Mrs. G about her flying lessons...(more on that later) and soon after the Chihuahua enter nipping at his heels, (she's never far behind from Mr. Bradley is she?!) and Mr. Bradley is given the IQ scores of the students that he sent out for and says all of them are the best IQ scores in the entire state of boarding schools. This makes me wonder why Sue Ann was so upset about being the lowest...because even at the lowest of her school, it’s still the highest in the state so it can’t be THAT low. :confused:


In fact, it must still be pretty high and it’s odd that Mr. Bradley doesn’t mention this to Sue Ann to ease her worries that she’s dumb later on.

Tootie picks up a paper left behind that just happens to have ALL the girl’s scores on them and can’t believe when she sees who’s the smartest and who’s the dumbest! :eek:

HAHA I'll say!

So Tootie enters the room where the girls are and happily announces that she has everyone’s IQ scores and gleefully shares them one at a time. Blair is just happy the score is more than her weight. (whatever, I really don’t understand that lol), Molly just gasps (for the first time this girl is speechless?), Cindy is happy with hers, and Nat & Tootie have the same score and Nat is all “I knew we were soul sisters!” and they are both are giddy with delight at having the same score. Ha! :crazy:
Finally an ep where you mention all the girls! Another reason why I love this episode!

Ok, now we get to Sue Ann who sees she has the lowest score in the school while Nancy is actually the highest. Sue Ann is devastated and Molly finally decides to speak by saying “Don’t feel bad about being the dumbest person in school”....wow, what a bitch! For someone who’s this social justice feminist, she really knows how to make someone feel like crap. Where’s all her equality bull crap now?! Shouldn’t she be trying to raise Sue Ann up instead of tearing her down even more? Bad Molly! :mad:

So the rest of the episode is Sue Ann so upset that she’s “stupid” and wants to leave Eastland. But wait...now Nancy wants to leave Eastland too because it’s too much pressure being the smartest. What?!

Really...she can’t handle it and freezes up when people ask her for help. They both just want things to go back to the way they were. Then it turns out they BOTH wind up failing the midterm because Nancy froze up and Sue Ann was answering questions that weren’t really questions lol. God, just knowing their IQ scores led to so much trouble for them!

Again, Sue Ann's score COULDN’T have been that low if they were all the highest in the state! All she had to do was look up the score on the scale and see where she was in the whole scheme of things and i’m sure she would’ve been happy again! Ugh.
Sue Ann is the type that strives to be the best. As we see in The Little Chill she's ashamed of just being a gopher, this quality remains consistent in her character.

Oh, Tootie got in trouble for revealing the IQ scores and has to write out 500 times “I will not be nosy” which she tries doing with 499 dittos under the sentence once lol.

Mr. Bradley was having none of that and told her to start over. Then Mrs. G comes in the classroom with Nancy & Sue Ann and throws in his face what his sending out for IQ scores have done to her girls.

I always assumed these IQ tests were done long ago when the girls were younger while their brains still developed.

So Mrs. G dares Mr. Bradley to take an IQ score with her---and the Chihuahua just happens to have a copy of the test to read the questions to the both of them while they sit and write down the answers.

Which leads me to a memory of when me and my friend bought an IQ test at the bookstore when we were 22 and took it together. When the time was up and we finished, we compared scores and to my utter dismay, found out we got the exact same score!
Unlike Nat & Tootie though, I was upset because I wanted to be smarter than my friend and didn’t want her to be as intelligent as me LOL. I know that’s bad of me, but we would always debate things and it would’ve been nice to rub in her face if I was even ONE point more than her in intelligence...but the SAME?!

There’s no face rubbing in that now that she was my equal. YUCK! She found it victorious that she had the same number as me and wound up rubbing MY face in it so in effect, I felt like I lost something there lol. It’s twisted I know...but anyway...back to the show. (Oh the score was I think 145---I know it was in the 140’s so i'm going to stick with 145..but if she was just ONE point below me I would’ve been so thrilled! lol...I know that's not nice!)

So the rest of the episode is Sue Ann so upset that she’s “stupid” and wants to leave Eastland. But wait...now Nancy wants to leave Eastland too because it’s too much pressure being the smartest. What?!

Really...she can’t handle it and freezes up when people ask her for help. They both just want things to go back to the way they were. Then it turns out they BOTH wind up failing the midterm because Nancy froze up and Sue Ann was answering questions that weren’t really questions lol. God, just knowing their IQ scores led to so much trouble for them!

Again, Sue Ann's score COULDN’T have been that low if they were all the highest in the state! All she had to do was look up the score on the scale and see where she was in the whole scheme of things and i’m sure she would’ve been happy again! Ugh.

Oh, Tootie got in trouble for revealing the IQ scores and has to write out 500 times “I will not be nosy” which she tries doing with 499 dittos under the sentence once lol.

Mr. Bradley was having none of that and told her to start over. Then Mrs. G comes in the classroom with Nancy & Sue Ann and throws in his face what his sending out for IQ scores have done to her girls.

Now this is where I disagree with Mrs. G. There’s nothing wrong with him sending out for the scores and the girls were NOT supposed to ever see them. It was only because of Tootie that they did, so Mrs. G was misdirecting her anger at him when it was Tootie who really was to blame here. Not him.

In the end it seemed a way for the show to send the message that IQ scores don’t carry any weight and I believe they do and that they should be given in schools. But in today's society where standards are completely thrown out the window, who am I to say anything?

Now anybody can get into any college no matter what their level of intelligence is or how smart they are. I think I read recently they’re not doing SAT’s anymore...it’s insane what they’re doing! But I digress….this is probably where it all started...in a 1979 FOL episode. Ha!

So Mrs. G dares Mr. Bradley to take an IQ score with her---and the Chihuahua just happens to have a copy of the test to read the questions to the both of them while they sit and write down the answers.

Mr. Bradley stumbles while Mrs. G giddily answers while giving snarky commentary towards Mr. B and I really don’t like this scene or how Mrs. G is acting here. It’s low class and smug. But her point is made when Mr. B stumbles on the questions and says he had enough. He crumbles his paper and says IQ scores mean nothing. Oh good lord! So now they mean nothing just because he couldn’t answer a few questions on it?! LOL...ok.

It’s decided that Nancy & Sue Ann can take their midterms over again because they were under that IQ pressure before and now can relax and easily pass it. Nancy says she;ll get a 95 and Sue Ann is like “I’ll get a 96!” lol...just like me and my friend….that ONE point does mean everything you know!!

Mrs. G goes off for her solo airplane flying….she’s apparently taking lessons and I don’t know if we ever learn if she gets her flying license? There’s a whole other episode right there! “Mrs. Garret, the Red Baron”!

Off she goes into the wild blue yonder….while poor Tootie is still writing her 500 “I will not be nosy”...which doesn’t ever sink in because I think she reads Natalie’s diary later on? Someone reads her diary….was it Blair? Oh well…. It’s coming up soon and i’ll see.

So this was another good one. I’m enjoying the whole season and Sue Ann was the lead in this one and I liked her and pictured what she would’ve been like had she stayed on. Nancy is ok, but her facial expressions do seem amateurish (it;s not a slam on her as I know she’s adored here...no hammers please!)....but in comparison, Sue Ann is the better actress imo and I could see her fitting in during the Cafeteria Years….Cindy again had not much to do and Molly annoyed me calling Sue Ann dumb the way she did. It was a bitchy way to say it and irked me.

Blair had her short shorts on in the beginning where her avocado dip plate was sitting on her bare thighs and she admired herself in the mirror doing like 3 double takes at herself. That’s even too much for Blair!

Miss Mahoney (Chihuahua) had a much bigger part than previous episodes, and now that I know Charlotte Rae probably hated her guts I was watching her in the scene with Miss M to see if any of it was detectable. They really never interacted more than a couple of words so it was hard to tell.

Is this her final appearance? Someone said only 4 episodes she’s in before she disappears? Oh well...off to The King of Queens she went where she found much better success because she was great as Doug’s Mom.

So it’s 4/4 that I like….I think i’m going to enjoy the whole season if it keeps at this pace. It’s really a lot of fun so far!

On the contrary, she teaches the headmaster a lesson about not judging people's intelligence by a simple test!!!!! Sorry, but i ABSOLUTELY don't agree that I.Q determines how smart you are, and now you're getting a :bash::bash: (hey i'm only teasing you with the hammer!!!!)

I also agree with 80sSitcoms on MOLLY: she is simply ADORABLE when she delivers those lines to SUE ANN and not bitchy at all as you said!!! you just have to see through her 11/12 years old eyes!!!

On another note, I have a feeling/hunch, that SUE ANN will now become your FAVOURITE 'Lost girl': am i right? (Hey, she's my favourite too!!!!)

By the way, you still haven't told us what you think of the music theme and the opening? I for once, LOVE the opening theme where you see the Eastland building and ,MRS G surrounded by her girls!!!!!
I also like the opening, where SUE ANN is chatting to BLAIR, and TOOTIE almost knocks them over with her skates!!!!!

I also like the SUE ANN/BLAIR friendship: there is a subtle rivalry between them, but unlike with JO, they don't bite their heads off!!!!!:bighug:: (From now on, you will notice the show more focus on those 2 as the main ones, along 'feisty ginger Garret').....

I never really liked that much the cold kitchen from season 2 to 4: they should have kept the 'common room' to make the school look homey, until the end....

Blair offers Mrs. G some of her avocado spread, to which she declines pointing to her own “avocado spread” on her backside. Oh my! I wonder how Charlotte felt having to say that and it was probably what made her go on a diet! The writing team shamed her into it! Yikes! :eek:

Maybe. But I think it's more likely Charlotte embraced her heavier self. In Charlotte's early stand-up routines, she jokes about her weight and love of food. I think the writers just incorporated that into the show.


So Tootie enters the room where the girls are and happily announces that she has everyone’s IQ scores and gleefully shares them one at a time. Blair is just happy the score is more than her weight. (whatever, I really don’t understand that lol), Molly just gasps (for the first time this girl is speechless?), Cindy is happy with hers, and Nat & Tootie have the same score and Nat is all “I knew we were soul sisters!” and they are both are giddy with delight at having the same score. Ha! :crazy:

And even four episodes in, you already know all the characters. Which seems to me to indicate that most viewers would have, too.


Oh, Tootie got in trouble for revealing the IQ scores and has to write out 500 times “I will not be nosy” which she tries doing with 499 dittos under the sentence once lol.

This is one of my favorite scenes. I still remember seeing it for the first time, back in the early 1980s. It's how we got the idea to use ditto marks during our own writing punishments! :lol:


In the end it seemed a way for the show to send the message that IQ scores don’t carry any weight and I believe they do and that they should be given in schools. But in today's society where standards are completely thrown out the window, who am I to say anything?

Now anybody can get into any college no matter what their level of intelligence is or how smart they are. I think I read recently they’re not doing SAT’s anymore...it’s insane what they’re doing! But I digress….this is probably where it all started...in a 1979 FOL episode. Ha!

So this was another good one. I’m enjoying the whole season and Sue Ann was the lead in this one and I liked her and pictured what she would’ve been like had she stayed on.

Several of us feel as though Sue Ann would have made a good transition.

Nancy is ok, but her facial expressions do seem amateurish (it;s not a slam on her as I know she’s adored here...no hammers please!)....but in comparison, Sue Ann is the better actress imo and I could see her fitting in during the Cafeteria Years….

There won't be much Nancy after this episode...


Miss Mahoney (Chihuahua) had a much bigger part than previous episodes, and now that I know Charlotte Rae probably hated her guts I was watching her in the scene with Miss M to see if any of it was detectable. They really never interacted more than a couple of words so it was hard to tell.

Yeah, I don't think it was detectable. But this was the end for Miss Mahoney.

Well I wasn't comparing them, I was sharing my theory of how Sue Ann usurped Nancy's role on the show as Blair's "frienemy". They were already frienemies in "The Girls' School" but rather than build on that foundation, they shove Nancy off with "the younger girls" and let Sue Ann battle Blair.

There had been no Sue Ann episode yet, so it's really interesting that they chose to use Sue Ann instead of the already established Blair-zinging Nancy.

I saw the you tube clip someone posted here where she did that act telling about her love of food. So it makes sense that she would incorporate it into the show. And if so i'm glad because then it was her idea and not the writers making fun of her.

I'm going in this with Lost Girls lessons from here though. Remember how I couldn't figure them apart a couple of months ago? I really think viewers watching once a week found it hard to keep track with so many blonds there. And two of them in similar short shorts, it had to be confusing to some.

They were short scenes and didn't make much of an impression. There's a scene where Nancy & Sue Ann are fighting over Blair's dress in LMLD and I barely mentioned that. Some small scenes I gloss over for the ones that made more of an impression on me.

By the end of this season, you'll be able to tell The Julies apart at 100 feet.

Julie Anne does such an incredible job as Cindy. She clearly knew the craft, coming from a film background, and she had a very special quality that you rarely see from child actresses; the casting director, Eve Brandstein, called it a willowy, wistful quality.

Julie Pie as Sue Ann kept the show going with her energy. Even in her Season Two/Three appearances, you can feel that energy.

The loss of The Julies really changed the show in a lot of ways. some good, some not so good.


At the rate it's going, I can't imagine coming here to say "This one's a stinker!" :lol:

I mean sure you may not know everything about them, but usually a first viewing of a character is a pretty solid base for who they are. So if you fall in love with a character at first sight, you just go with it from there! :loveya:

Maybe I should clarify...In RH we see Cindy mainly with Mrs. G and with Blair and it's about that one subject of being a tomboy. I need to see more of her general interactions with everyone to form a better opinion.

Nancy is also a strong presence so easier to form an opinion on early...whereas Cindy so far by episode 4 isn't as strong a presence as the others. After RH she's more of a wallflower compared to Blair, Sue Ann and Nancy.

So i'm waiting to see more of her interactions to make a better judgment of her. This is what I knew would happen when i'd like certain characters...the ones that don't float to the top will have upset fans. I lose no matter who I decide to like!

I saw the show from the beginning and I could tell the blondes easily apart. Cindy was the tomboy with pigtails, Sue Ann was the traditional values All American girl (sorry Felice), and Blair was the big money snooty one.

Thank you! I do like Cindy, but I want to see more of her and how she interacts with everyone throughout the season. I can easier pick out Sue Ann as a favorite because in 4 episodes she's standing out and doing a lot more than Cindy.

I saw the show from the beginning and I could tell the blondes easily apart. Cindy was the tomboy with pigtails, Sue Ann was the traditional values All American girl (sorry Felice), and Blair was the big money snooty one.

How did other half hour sitcoms shows like Happy Days, Soap, Taxi, MASH, WKRP in Cincinati survive with more than 5 characters?

Well those shows had characters that were more distinct from one another. Sue Ann and Cindy both had long blond hair and the exact same shade so it was easy to mix up the two. Blair stood out since her shade was a little more on the brunette side.

Also those shows you mention had a mix of male/female....it is harder when you have a room full of 7 teen girls thrown together. Had it been even 4 females and 3 males, it would've been easier to tell who's who.

I know many here will disagree with that, but I think it was a main factor in chopping down the cast for season 2. You then had 4 very distinct girls easily recognizable from each other.

Yes, because her height plays a big factor too. When there's a wide shot of all of them, she stands out like Bea Arthur visiting Munchkinland. So that affects her presence too imo. You can't help but take notice of that huge giant among the smaller girls. :lol:

We never got the conservative side of perspectives anymore, and we missed out on the sports episodes. A huge part of the show was gone with the firing of the Lost Girls.

But the writers swear they just couldn't handle such a large cast; why this is so, I think many of us will never understand, because Head of the Class managed it for five seasons, as did Degrassi, Eight is Enough, Saved By the Bell, etc. All of them ran for at least five seasons. But these writers, for whatever reason, just couldn't manage it. I'll never understand why, but one thing that happened is that the show continued.

Yeah, that was odd. I wonder if the original plan was to produce more episodes, but when the series was put on hiatus for six months, there was no need for nine more episodes. Just a theory... I have no proof. But that might explain why there were so many writers.

Without researching, I'm assuming it's Blair, Sue Ann, Tootie, Natalie, Cindy, Molly, Nancy.

Highlight invisible text here (so not spoiling anything for cfr): I think Cindy and Molly may actually be really, really close. Because while Cindy has 1.5 episodes and Molly has 1, I think in episodes that aren't focused on them, Molly has more lines than Cindy, sometimes quite a bit more (i.e., "Adoption"---Molly and Blair talk a lot to Natalie in the "bedroom cake" scene [:lol:], which is trimmed down in syndication], and Cindy has much less lines).

If we count only the girls, Sue Ann is problably the second of the most used, after Blair. And both the Julies would have been a great foil for Blair.

I really enjoyed this one...except for Molly….oh good lord, that girl gets on my last nerve! But read on...

It’s Career Day at Eastland and Tootie’s Dad is coming up to speak. We learn what all the girls want to be when they grow up but first this little bit of info is revealed….Tootie reads Sue Ann’s diary! And this is after her 500 times “I will not be nosy” episode LOL.

I knew she read someone’s diary, but this isn’t that episode because this one was completely new to me. But I know she reads someone’s in the cafeteria years!

So Tootie’s Dad doesn’t like the influence Mrs. Garrett is having on Tootie, who’s made up in hair rollers, face cream and long manicured nails when he visits and she says she wants to go to Beauty School to Mr. Ramsey’s complete horror. :eek:

He tells Mr. B that he feels Mrs. G is a bad influence on his daughter and she should be aspiring to be much more than that. He then tells Mr. B to keep Mrs. G away from his daughter. Oh no he did NOT just say that….all hell is going to break loose one Mrs. G gets a whiff of this!

Anyway, we go to Mrs. G’s bedroom where all the girls are hanging out. (WHY?! It’s the housemother's bedroom lol). We learn that Nancy wants to be a shrink to the stars when she grows up and Tootie wants to go to Beauty School which is going to be the gist of this episode’s story.

Blair wants to be an artist and actress and also to marry the president of General Motors, but Molly says that’ll never happen because SHE’S gonna be the president of General Motors. Oh shut up little girl! :cuss:

Sue Ann wants to be a marine biologist because she’s interested in fish (and it’s funny because that’s what Tootie’s future husband becomes!)

We hear more from what Molly wants to be...Along with being the president of GM, she wants to be the Joan Baez of the ‘80’s too…(Oh good Lord, she can’t just pick one career can she? She has to pick TWO! Women like that are NEVER satisfied! ) :bash::bash::bash:

So she croaks out a tune with her guitar that goes like:

“The skies are junky
The lakes are chunky
The oceans are gunky
I feel like a lab monkey
Stop grossing up America you turkeys!”

UGH I just want to take that guitar and ….(ok i’m calming down...deep breaths...deep breaths…) :notworthy

Mr. Bradley enters and thankfully no one has to do what I want to do to Molly’s guitar because she shuts up and he makes a beeline to Tootie asking her what she wants to be when she grows up and finishes college. She replies she’s skipping college along with Natalie who confirms they’re going to study with Vidal Sassoon to learn “Advanced Sassooning.” :lol:

And they’re going to open up a beauty salon called “Toot N Nat’s” or as Natalie put it “Nat & Toot’s.”...which is something I REALLY would have loved to have seen in the later seasons. Can you just imagine that instead of the god awful Over Our Heads?!

Anyway, Mr. B shoos everyone out of the room (because this is Mrs. G’s bedroom and they don’t belong there in the first place lol. Build another set you cheap show!) except for Mrs. G to have a talk where he tells her about Mr. Ramsey feeling that Tootie has a bad influence on her at Eastland.

Naturally Mrs. G thinks it’s Natalie, but Mr. B says no….so this is where we learn that there are only 7….SEVEN girls in the entire Eastland School because Mrs. G runs down all 6 girls' names and when she finishes says “Well that only leaves me!”....LOL….WHAT?! There’s really NO ONE else that could be a bad influence? So it’s logical to conclude these 7 girls are the only ones attending this huge school! It’s no wonder the cafeteria is so tiny.

Tootie comes down the stairs in her roller skates, and Mrs. G thinks absolutely nothing about how close this girl is to snapping her neck and becoming a paraplegic for the rest of her life. Now THIS is what should be highly concerning to Mr. Ramsey shouldn’t it?! The man has his priorities all screwed up lol.

Anyway, Tootie wants Mrs. G’s help plucking her eyebrows but Mrs. G is all distant to her and says no which hurts poor Tootie. Awww!! She stomps back up the scares in those skates and once again I fear her first acting role is going to be in “The Other Side of the Mountain”. :lol:

Blair and Sue Ann come down together (seems these two are buddies, and I like them together) and Mrs. G tells them about what Mr B relayed to her. But when Mrs. G hears herself saying it out loud it angers her and she tells the girls she’s going to give “Rifle” Ramsey a couple of shots of Garret Gunpowder!...To which Rifle Ramsey just happens to hear as he walks in the door!

But Mrs. G doesn’t care and points her Garrett Gunpowder to him with both barrels...but he shoots her down when he tells her she’s not the problem but only the symptom and Eastland School is the problem, and he’s taking his Tootie out of the school asap! GASP!

OMG the very next scene Tootie is PACKING already! The girls all try to console her and good old Nat gives her a blond wig that her Mom sent to practice on and when Tootie puts it on she says she always wanted to be a blond to wish Nat gleefully tells her she looks just like Suzanne Somers and I was hoping Tootie would’ve dine the Chrissy snort laugh as a joke which would’ve been so hysterical to see...and then Molly dumps water on the fun and says “Yeah, another blond with black roots.”....omg how RACIST! Just SHUT UP MOLLY before I take that guitar and…...Ok, ok….deep breaths….take deep breaths!!......She’s just a child….

But she keeps going as if to purposely irk me more….Mrs. G walks in and Nancy asks if she can convince Mr. Ramsey to keep Tootie at Eastland, and Mrs. G replies that she’s the last person Mr. Ramsey will listen to...and then Molly comes over to say “Nancy, where you been? Don’t you know that Tootie’s father doesn’t like this school because Mrs. Garrett’s the reason why Tootie’s such a dummy?”

OMG I HATE this girl!! There’s no way she’s saying all this crap innocently….she’s a conniving Mean Girl who thinks she’s better than all the others. The way she puts everyone down calling them dummy’s is wrong...First Sue Ann and now Tootie….See the pattern? These are not isolated instances here. Just shut up you annoying little brat!

Tootie tells Mrs. G how much she’s gonna miss her and they hug. But then Mrs. G again pulls out her Garrett Gunpowder and tells the girls “Are we going to give up without a fight?!” To which that little BRAT Molly says the worst thing of all with "Let's CHAIN Tootie to the front gate!!" WHAT?! :eek: Once again….RACIST! This girl wants to put Tootie in CHAINS! OMG! Get her off this show NOW! :angryfire

Thankfully Mrs. G ignores her disturbing suggestion and says she got it! ….”We’ll go downstairs and convince Tootie’s father to let her stay by using something he respects….our BRAINS!!”....(I guess that leaves Molly out!)

But Tootie includes all of them when she says “Brains? Boy are WE in troubllllle!” Ha!

But she quickly tells them she’s not calling them dumb (like MOLLY does!) but that her daddy is a good lawyer and has argued cases in the highest courts…..even in front of the “Supremes”....lol cute. :)

And OMG we see Natalie’s stewardess sister sitting on the couch! Speak woman! I want to meet her...but she just sits there for the silent extra that she is. Damn. I’m SO intrigued that Natalie has a sister and want her to speak but she never does!!

So Rifle Ramsey gives his career day speech to the girls while i’m too mesmerized and focused on Natalie’s sister to care….And there’s a bunch of other silent extras who are Eastland students who just sit there...so there’s more than 7...so why didn’t Mrs. G name them too?!

Anyway, they all gang up on Mr. Ramsey on letting Tootie stay in school (except for the extras who are only paid to sit there quietly lol)

But then MOLLY once again gets in the way and says how she STOLE Tooties grades from Mrs. Packer’s office (who the hell is Mrs. Packer?!) So now Molly is breaking into school offices for grades! And then she proceeds to read them to everyone! “A, A, B, A and ‘Cooperative, enthusiastic, talks too much’---uh oh...but that’s in the gym so it doesn’t count”....and she sits down….and no one questions this girl who STOLE GRADES from an office in the school!! But everyone APPLAUDS her on her thievery and Mr. Bradley just sits there too!! EXPEL her NOW! I demand it! The girl is EVIL! ….ok….just breathe…..breathe…..

After some more attempts to convince from Mr. B...Rifle Ramsey sticks to his guns…(ha, a pun!) and we see another glimpse of Natalie’s sister just sitting there….SAY SOMETHING PLEASE!! I’m so intrigued by this woman...I want to hear her speak!! This is torture!! Natalie has a SISTER everyone!! Why wasn’t this ever mentioned before? I am so completely SHOCKED and thrown for a loop here!! But this woman just sits there like a bump on a log….like a POD! Natalie’s sister is a POD! :lol:

So Mrs. G pulls out her Garrett's Gunpowder one last time and requests Rifle Ramsey to come to her chambers for a talk along with Tootie who tells Nat if she’s not out in 5 minutes to raffle off her skates.

Mrs. G gets us to learn that Rifle Ramsey used to want to be “Buffalo” Ramsey as a child, in other words a cowboy, and she makes her point that little children want to be all sorts of things before they decide as adults what they really want to do, so one shouldn’t take literally what they say now, and uses “Buffalo” as an example.

This changed Rifle’s mind and Tootie is going to stay at Eastland after all...as if we all thought otherwise! Tootie rolls out while Blair & Nancy are putting glasses to the door to listen lol. And they all group hug her and it’s over. :)

Another great episode and it’s nice to see Tootie being so loved and appreciated by everyone! Some side observations….Mrs. G makes another self deprecating fat joke. This time about the poor horse she saved by not deciding to become a jockey.

And I notice for the first time that Natalie wears braces! I never knew she wore them! Are they there in the second season also?

But more importantly, is her SISTER!! I still can’t get over this shock...it’s earth shattering for me lol. I guess we never see that mysterious woman ever again? UGH.

Cindy is again in the background only speaking a few lines, Nancy is a little more prominent, Sue Ann and Blair are easily the stars and Tootie shines in her lead role in this episode. Nat too is background, but she was still a lousy actress so it’s understandable.

But that Molly….i’m sorry folks….I can’t stand her. At all. Y’all can like her all you want..but .I will never! Never never never!!

The Jeffersons had a large cast (nine regulars) too and it ran for 11 seasons. It was the writers fault, they couldn't write for every girl, only Blair, Sue Ann and Tootie, the other girls were just part of the room, like poor Nancy. You know I'm not a hater, I love every season, I simply don't like some parts of the writing, nothing more. But I guess every show has its good and bad side of the writing.

Anyway, Tootie wants Mrs. G’s help plucking her eyebrows but Mrs. G is all distant to her and says no which hurts poor Tootie. Awww!! She stomps back up the scares in those skates and once again I fear her first acting role is going to be in “The Other Side of the Mountain”. :lol:

Blair and Sue Ann come down together (seems these two are buddies, and I like them together) and Mrs. G tells them about what Mr B relayed to her. But when Mrs. G hears herself saying it out loud it angers her and she tells the girls she’s going to give “Rifle” Ramsey a couple of shots of Garret Gunpowder!...To which Rifle Ramsey just happens to hear as he walks in the door!

But Mrs. G doesn’t care and points her Garrett Gunpowder to him with both barrels...but he shoots her down when he tells her she’s not the problem but only the symptom and Eastland School is the problem, and he’s taking his Tootie out of the school asap! GASP!

And then she proceeds to read them to everyone! “A, A, B, A and ‘Cooperative, enthusiastic, talks too much’---uh oh...but that’s in the gym so it doesn’t count”....and she sits down….and no one questions this girl who STOLE GRADES from an office in the school!! But everyone APPLAUDS her on her thievery and Mr. Bradley just sits there too!! EXPEL her NOW! I demand it! The girl is EVIL! ….ok….just breathe…..breathe…..

After some more attempts to convince from Mr. B...Rifle Ramsey sticks to his guns…(ha, a pun!) and we see another glimpse of Natalie’s sister just sitting there….SAY SOMETHING PLEASE!! I’m so intrigued by this woman...I want to hear her speak!! This is torture!! Natalie has a SISTER everyone!! Why wasn’t this ever mentioned before? I am so completely SHOCKED and thrown for a loop here!! But this woman just sits there like a bump on a log….like a POD! Natalie’s sister is a POD! :lol:

So Mrs. G pulls out her Garrett's Gunpowder one last time and requests Rifle Ramsey to come to her chambers for a talk along with Tootie who tells Nat if she’s not out in 5 minutes to raffle off her skates.

Mrs. G gets us to learn that Rifle Ramsey used to want to be “Buffalo” Ramsey as a child, in other words a cowboy, and she makes her point that little children want to be all sorts of things before they decide as adults what they really want to do, so one shouldn’t take literally what they say now, and uses “Buffalo” as an example.

This changed Rifle’s mind and Tootie is going to stay at Eastland after all...as if we all thought otherwise! Tootie rolls out while Blair & Nancy are putting glasses to the door to listen lol. And they all group hug her and it’s over. :)

Another great episode and it’s nice to see Tootie being so loved and appreciated by everyone! Some side observations….Mrs. G makes another self deprecating fat joke. This time about the poor horse she saved by not deciding to become a jockey.

And I notice for the first time that Natalie wears braces! I never knew she wore them! Are they there in the second season also?

But more importantly, is her SISTER!! I still can’t get over this shock...it’s earth shattering for me lol. I guess we never see that mysterious woman ever again? UGH.

Cindy is again in the background only speaking a few lines, Nancy is a little more prominent, Sue Ann and Blair are easily the stars and Tootie shines in her lead role in this episode. Nat too is background, but she was still a lousy actress so it’s understandable.

But that Molly….i’m sorry folks….I can’t stand her. At all. Y’all can like her all you want..but .I will never! Never never never!!

It’s Career Day at Eastland and Tootie’s Dad is coming up to speak. We learn what all the girls want to be when they grow up but first this little bit of info is revealed….Tootie reads Sue Ann’s diary! And this is after her 500 times “I will not be nosy” episode LOL.

Yeah, even after having to write on the chalkboard, Tootie is still incredibly nosy. :lol:


So she croaks out a tune with her guitar that goes like:

“The skies are junky
The lakes are chunky
The oceans are gunky
I feel like a lab monkey
Stop grossing up America you turkeys!”

UGH I just want to take that guitar and ….(ok i’m calming down...deep breaths...deep breaths…) :notworthy

Molly did such a great job of singing Disney songs, but I'm so not a fan of her singing and guitar playing, here.


And they’re going to open up a beauty salon called “Toot N Nat’s” or as Natalie put it “Nat & Toot’s.”...which is something I REALLY would have loved to have seen in the later seasons. Can you just imagine that instead of the god awful Over Our Heads?!

There’s really NO ONE else that could be a bad influence? So it’s logical to conclude these 7 girls are the only ones attending this huge school! It’s no wonder the cafeteria is so tiny.

Blair and Sue Ann come down together (seems these two are buddies, and I like them together)

Lisa and Julie Pie had worked together since they appeared with one another when the New Mickey Mouse Club started taping in 1976, so they had already developed a chemistry. It definitely shows.


And OMG we see Natalie’s stewardess sister sitting on the couch! Speak woman! I want to meet her...but she just sits there for the silent extra that she is. Damn. I’m SO intrigued that Natalie has a sister and want her to speak but she never does!!

Sadly, Natalie's sister was Chuck Cunninghammed: she caught a flight to Outer Mongolia, and never returned. In later seasons, Natalie has no sister. :(

There's no doubt the show lost a lot when Molly left. We'd rarely see characters take overtly activist positions, and no longer seeing Molly's character meant that those episodes were, for the most part, sidelined. And we lost an actress who proved her mettle with three massively successful films still remembered fondly by many to this day.

So Tootie’s Dad doesn’t like the influence Mrs. Garrett is having on Tootie, who’s made up in hair rollers, face cream and long manicured nails when he visits and she says she wants to go to Beauty School to Mr. Ramsey’s complete horror. :eek:

He tells Mr. B that he feels Mrs. G is a bad influence on his daughter and she should be aspiring to be much more than that. He then tells Mr. B to keep Mrs. G away from his daughter. Oh no he did NOT just say that….all hell is going to break loose one Mrs. G gets a whiff of this!

Anyway, we go to Mrs. G’s bedroom where all the girls are hanging out. (WHY?! It’s the housemother's bedroom lol). We learn that Nancy wants to be a shrink to the stars when she grows up and Tootie wants to go to Beauty School which is going to be the gist of this episode’s story.

Blair wants to be an artist and actress and also to marry the president of General Motors, but Molly says that’ll never happen because SHE’S gonna be the president of General Motors. Oh shut up little girl! :cuss:

Sue Ann wants to be a marine biologist because she’s interested in fish (and it’s funny because that’s what Tootie’s future husband becomes!)

We hear more from what Molly wants to be...Along with being the president of GM, she wants to be the Joan Baez of the ‘80’s too…(Oh good Lord, she can’t just pick one career can she? She has to pick TWO! Women like that are NEVER satisfied! ) :bash::bash::bash:

Mr. Bradley enters and thankfully no one has to do what I want to do to Molly’s guitar because she shuts up and he makes a beeline to Tootie asking her what she wants to be when she grows up and finishes college. Anyway, Tootie wants Mrs. G’s help plucking her eyebrows but Mrs. G is all distant to her and says no which hurts poor Tootie. Awww!! She stomps back up the scares in those skates and once again I fear her first acting role is going to be in “The Other Side of the Mountain”.

Blair and Sue Ann come down together (seems these two are buddies, and I like them together) and Mrs. G tells them about what Mr B relayed to her. But when Mrs. G hears herself saying it out loud it angers her and she tells the girls she’s going to give “Rifle” Ramsey a couple of shots of Garret Gunpowder!...To which Rifle Ramsey just happens to hear as he walks in the door!

But Mrs. G doesn’t care and points her Garrett Gunpowder to him with both barrels...but he shoots her down when he tells her she’s not the problem but only the symptom and Eastland School is the problem, and he’s taking his Tootie out of the school asap! GASP!

OMG the very next scene Tootie is PACKING already! The girls all try to console her and good old Nat gives her a blond wig that her Mom sent to practice on and when Tootie puts it on she says she always wanted to be a blond to wish Nat gleefully tells her she looks just like Suzanne Somers and I was hoping Tootie would’ve dine the Chrissy snort laugh as a joke which would’ve been so hysterical to see...and then Molly dumps water on the fun and says “Yeah, another blond with black roots.”....omg how RACIST! Just SHUT UP MOLLY before I take that guitar and…...Ok, ok….deep breaths….take deep breaths!!......She’s just a child….

But she keeps going as if to purposely irk me more….Mrs. G walks in and Nancy asks if she can convince Mr. Ramsey to keep Tootie at Eastland, and Mrs. G replies that she’s the last person Mr. Ramsey will listen to...and then Molly comes over to say “Nancy, where you been? Don’t you know that Tootie’s father doesn’t like this school because Mrs. Garrett’s the reason why Tootie’s such a dummy?”

OMG I HATE this girl!! There’s no way she’s saying all this crap innocently….she’s a conniving Mean Girl who thinks she’s better than all the others. The way she puts everyone down calling them dummy’s is wrong...First Sue Ann and now Tootie….See the pattern? These are not isolated instances here. Just shut up you annoying little brat!

Tootie tells Mrs. G how much she’s gonna miss her and they hug. But then Mrs. G again pulls out her Garrett Gunpowder and tells the girls “Are we going to give up without a fight?!” To which that little BRAT Molly says the worst thing of all with "Let's CHAIN Tootie to the front gate!!" WHAT?! :eek: Once again….RACIST! This girl wants to put Tootie in CHAINS! OMG! Get her off this show NOW! :angryfire

Thankfully Mrs. G ignores her disturbing suggestion and says she got it! ….”We’ll go downstairs and convince Tootie’s father to let her stay by using something he respects….our BRAINS!!”....(I guess that leaves Molly out!)

But she quickly tells them she’s not calling them dumb (like MOLLY does!) but that her daddy is a good lawyer and has argued cases in the highest courts…..even in front of the “Supremes”....lol cute. :)

He tells Mr. B that he feels Mrs. G is a bad influence on his daughter and she should be aspiring to be much more than that. He then tells Mr. B to keep Mrs. G away from his daughter. Oh no he did NOT just say that….all hell is going to break loose one Mrs. G gets a whiff of this!

Anyway, we go to Mrs. G’s bedroom where all the girls are hanging out. (WHY?! It’s the housemother's bedroom lol). We learn that Nancy wants to be a shrink to the stars when she grows up and Tootie wants to go to Beauty School which is going to be the gist of this episode’s story.

Blair wants to be an artist and actress and also to marry the president of General Motors, but Molly says that’ll never happen because SHE’S gonna be the president of General Motors. Oh shut up little girl!

Sue Ann wants to be a marine biologist because she’s interested in fish (and it’s funny because that’s what Tootie’s future husband becomes!)

We hear more from what Molly wants to be...Along with being the president of GM, she wants to be the Joan Baez of the ‘80’s too…(Oh good Lord, she can’t just pick one career can she? She has to pick TWO! Women like that are NEVER satisfied! )

So she croaks out a tune with her guitar that goes like:

“The skies are junky
The lakes are chunky
The oceans are gunky
I feel like a lab monkey
Stop grossing up America you turkeys!”

UGH I just want to take that guitar and ….(ok i’m calming down...deep breaths...deep breaths…)

Mr. Bradley enters and thankfully no one has to do what I want to do to Molly’s guitar because she shuts up and he makes a beeline to Tootie asking her what she wants to be when she grows up and finishes college. She replies she’s skipping college along with Natalie who confirms they’re going to study with Vidal Sassoon to learn “Advanced Sassooning.”

And they’re going to open up a beauty salon called “Toot N Nat’s” or as Natalie put it “Nat & Toot’s.”...which is something I REALLY would have loved to have seen in the later seasons. Can you just imagine that instead of the god awful Over Our Heads?!

Anyway, Mr. B shoos everyone out of the room (because this is Mrs. G’s bedroom and they don’t belong there in the first place lol. Build another set you cheap show!) except for Mrs. G to have a talk where he tells her about Mr. Ramsey feeling that Tootie has a bad influence on her at Eastland.

Naturally Mrs. G thinks it’s Natalie, but Mr. B says no….so this is where we learn that there are only 7….SEVEN girls in the entire Eastland School because Mrs. G runs down all 6 girls' names and when she finishes says “Well that only leaves me!”....LOL….WHAT?! There’s really NO ONE else that could be a bad influence? So it’s logical to conclude these 7 girls are the only ones attending this huge school! It’s no wonder the cafeteria is so tiny.

Tootie comes down the stairs in her roller skates, and Mrs. G thinks absolutely nothing about how close this girl is to snapping her neck and becoming a paraplegic for the rest of her life. Now THIS is what should be highly concerning to Mr. Ramsey shouldn’t it?! The man has his priorities all screwed up lol.

Anyway, Tootie wants Mrs. G’s help plucking her eyebrows but Mrs. G is all distant to her and says no which hurts poor Tootie. Awww!! She stomps back up the scares in those skates and once again I fear her first acting role is going to be in “The Other Side of the Mountain”.

Blair and Sue Ann come down together (seems these two are buddies, and I like them together) and Mrs. G tells them about what Mr B relayed to her. But when Mrs. G hears herself saying it out loud it angers her and she tells the girls she’s going to give “Rifle” Ramsey a couple of shots of Garret Gunpowder!...To which Rifle Ramsey just happens to hear as he walks in the door!

But Mrs. G doesn’t care and points her Garrett Gunpowder to him with both barrels...but he shoots her down when he tells her she’s not the problem but only the symptom and Eastland School is the problem, and he’s taking his Tootie out of the school asap! GASP!

OMG the very next scene Tootie is PACKING already! The girls all try to console her and good old Nat gives her a blond wig that her Mom sent to practice on and when Tootie puts it on she says she always wanted to be a blond to wish Nat gleefully tells her she looks just like Suzanne Somers and I was hoping Tootie would’ve dine the Chrissy snort laugh as a joke which would’ve been so hysterical to see...and then Molly dumps water on the fun and says “Yeah, another blond with black roots.”....omg how RACIST! Just SHUT UP MOLLY before I take that guitar and…...Ok, ok….deep breaths….take deep breaths!!......She’s just a child….

But she keeps going as if to purposely irk me more….Mrs. G walks in and Nancy asks if she can convince Mr. Ramsey to keep Tootie at Eastland, and Mrs. G replies that she’s the last person Mr. Ramsey will listen to...and then Molly comes over to say “Nancy, where you been? Don’t you know that Tootie’s father doesn’t like this school because Mrs. Garrett’s the reason why Tootie’s such a dummy?”

OMG I HATE this girl!! There’s no way she’s saying all this crap innocently….she’s a conniving Mean Girl who thinks she’s better than all the others. The way she puts everyone down calling them dummy’s is wrong...First Sue Ann and now Tootie….See the pattern? These are not isolated instances here. Just shut up you annoying little brat!

Tootie tells Mrs. G how much she’s gonna miss her and they hug. But then Mrs. G again pulls out her Garrett Gunpowder and tells the girls “Are we going to give up without a fight?!” To which that little BRAT Molly says the worst thing of all with "Let's CHAIN Tootie to the front gate!!" WHAT?! Once again….RACIST! This girl wants to put Tootie in CHAINS! OMG! Get her off this show NOW!

Thankfully Mrs. G ignores her disturbing suggestion and says she got it! ….”We’ll go downstairs and convince Tootie’s father to let her stay by using something he respects….our BRAINS!!”....(I guess that leaves Molly out!)

But Tootie includes all of them when she says “Brains? Boy are WE in troubllllle!” Ha!

But she quickly tells them she’s not calling them dumb (like MOLLY does!) but that her daddy is a good lawyer and has argued cases in the highest courts…..even in front of the “Supremes”....lol

And OMG we see Natalie’s stewardess sister sitting on the couch! Speak woman! I want to meet her...but she just sits there for the silent extra that she is. Damn. I’m SO intrigued that Natalie has a sister and want her to speak but she never does!!

So Rifle Ramsey gives his career day speech to the girls while i’m too mesmerized and focused on Natalie’s sister to care….And there’s a bunch of other silent extras who are Eastland students who just sit there...so there’s more than 7...so why didn’t Mrs. G name them too?!

Anyway, they all gang up on Mr. Ramsey on letting Tootie stay in school (except for the extras who are only paid to sit there quietly lol)

But then MOLLY once again gets in the way and says how she STOLE Tooties grades from Mrs. Packer’s office (who the hell is Mrs. Packer?!) So now Molly is breaking into school offices for grades! And then she proceeds to read them to everyone! “A, A, B, A and ‘Cooperative, enthusiastic, talks too much’---uh oh...but that’s in the gym so it doesn’t count”....and she sits down….and no one questions this girl who STOLE GRADES from an office in the school!! But everyone APPLAUDS her on her thievery and Mr. Bradley just sits there too!! EXPEL her NOW! I demand it! The girl is EVIL! ….ok….just breathe…..breathe…..

After some more attempts to convince from Mr. B...Rifle Ramsey sticks to his guns…(ha, a pun!) and we see another glimpse of Natalie’s sister just sitting there….SAY SOMETHING PLEASE!! I’m so intrigued by this woman...I want to hear her speak!! This is torture!! Natalie has a SISTER everyone!! Why wasn’t this ever mentioned before? I am so completely SHOCKED and thrown for a loop here!! But this woman just sits there like a bump on a log….like a POD! Natalie’s sister is a POD!

So Mrs. G pulls out her Garrett's Gunpowder one last time and requests Rifle Ramsey to come to her chambers for a talk along with Tootie who tells Nat if she’s not out in 5 minutes to raffle off her skates.

Mrs. G gets us to learn that Rifle Ramsey used to want to be “Buffalo” Ramsey as a child, in other words a cowboy, and she makes her point that little children want to be all sorts of things before they decide as adults what they really want to do, so one shouldn’t take literally what they say now, and uses “Buffalo” as an example.

This changed Rifle’s mind and Tootie is going to stay at Eastland after all...as if we all thought otherwise! Tootie rolls out while Blair & Nancy are putting glasses to the door to listen lol. And they all group hug her and it’s over.

Another great episode and it’s nice to see Tootie being so loved and appreciated by everyone! Some side observations….Mrs. G makes another self deprecating fat joke. This time about the poor horse she saved by not deciding to become a jockey.

And I notice for the first time that Natalie wears braces! I never knew she wore them! Are they there in the second season also?

But more importantly, is her SISTER!! I still can’t get over this shock...it’s earth shattering for me lol. I guess we never see that mysterious woman ever again? UGH.

Cindy is again in the background only speaking a few lines, Nancy is a little more prominent, Sue Ann and Blair are easily the stars and Tootie shines in her lead role in this episode. Nat too is background, but she was still a lousy actress so it’s understandable.

But that Molly….i’m sorry folks….I can’t stand her. At all. Y’all can like her all you want..but .I will never! Never never never!!

But another great episode nonetheless! 5/5.

And yes, i ABSOLUTELY agree with you about the friendship between BLAIR and SUE ANN: i think they would have really bonded like TOOTIE and NAT had she stayed on the show......
JO was good as BLAIR 'frenemy' too, but sometimes she came out as too rough and aggressive: it's almost like she couldn't stand the side of BLAIR and wanted to punch her lights out!!!!
On the other hand i had to give credit to BLAIR: she was truly a master on handling JO, and was not all at put off by her aggression!!!!:clap::clap:

Actually season 1 may rank among the top 5 seasons. Season 5 is first for me, but after I see season 2, 3, and 4 in full, it may be a contender between 2nd to 5th place. The episodes are all consistent and all the characters are well defined.

Oh boy another Blair focused episode coming up? She sure was undeniably the breakout star there...but I too wish Sue Ann made it to the next seasons. I like Jo, but she was a bit too rough and hard edged in comparison.

I think Sue Ann would've handled her good too and held her own with the female Fonzie. :lol:...Such a missed opportunity.

You didn't notice Natalie's sister because even though she was right there on the couch sitting like a POD, the camera never even gave the poor girl one close up shot...and it's baffling now in hindsight because Nat is such a popular character for the rest of the series.

But I guess they didn't know that yet before the retool, so possibly Nat could've been on the chopping block too and there was no need to focus too much on that sister if she was axed.

But now watching it, it's like OMG a sister!! What?! It's so shocking!! :eek::eek:

After season 1 I'd wanna see TLC again to have a better context of Sue Ann...so I don't yet know.

When I say season 1 is consistent, I mean the stories are all balanced and told really well and the whole light feel is constant throughout. I'm not at all speaking of which character gets more lines or prominence over others but the overall tone of the show. I like it and overall I find it to be consistent. :)

I totally forgot about an important discovery about BLAIR today! She's an artist and a pretty good one too! She was sketching Sue Ann in the opening scene and then we also saw one of her works where Mrs. G admired the "tight end" in the picture. :lol:

I think we saw another one she did in a previous episode too. This showed a talent Blair had that seems to have been dropped in the retool. I would've liked to have kept her creative side over the whole becoming a lawyer crap because that didn't fit her personality as much as this did.

And below it is the dangerously high shorts worn by Sue Ann that doesn't leave much to the imagination. Part of me wonders how this got by the NBC censors! But then again, the 1970's was such a freer time than now so this probably didn't make anyone bat an eye. :lol:

I just went back to Roughhousing to see if Natalie had her braces in the first episode she appeared in...and here she is grinning ear to ear displaying her metal mouth!!

So she didn't wear them for a year and most likely had them on before she started the show and got them off by season 2. (I wonder if that's what gave Kim's Mom the idea to get Kim braces...that she never even needed!! :lol:)

Yeah, it was leaning against a wall when I picture it....they must have placed it there later in the show cause in my mind I can see it sitting on a shelf against the wall.

Saying "inexperienced" makes it sound like you all watched these episodes hundreds of times! Oh God I don't think I can ever do that so it's probably safe to assume i'll always be "inexperienced" here. :lol:

I mean, I like the season, but I don't see myself replaying it over constantly. I only save that for shows I really really really love...but I understand that's how you are with this one. :crazy::wave:
