But that is a theory. But, I don't like that they had EVERY girl confessing she had a crush on him. All those girls with their different personalities? That would have to be one majorly hot guy. (which he definitely did not come across as in season 1) Lorimar Television 04-03-2019, 06:37 PM Hmm, that's true, but they keep reminiscing about that "golden year" at Eastland. I love the "field trip feel" it has of getting up into NY in the heart of the city and seeing what it's like there (kind of like "Fame" meets "ER" meets "The Facts of Life", lol). I think my favorite spin-off attempt is "Brian & Sylvia", followed by "Jo's Cousin", then BAB. Also, one good thing about these later seasons is seeing Kim's evolution of attitude coming through Tootie---it's such a great character touch, and often quite funny! But there is something so infuriating about the producers wasting one of the last episodes of the show on something so frivolous, so inept, as an episode with Natalie and Tootie surrounding themselves with lunatics in New York, not even stopping by to say hi to Sue Ann, Cindy, Molly, and Nancy while they were in NYC, and instead becoming chummy with David Spade, who Natalie doesn't even like! Grrrrr! '80sSitcoms 04-09-2019, 01:15 AM Oh, no argument there: that wasn't good. Grrrrr! Well, she likes him in the end, if that helps! lol Oh, another thought I'd had lately. You know, Retro, how you lamet the fact that with Sue Ann gone at the start of season 2, that eliminates "the conservative" from the cast? Well, Blair seems to actually kind of "become" Sue Ann in the conservative sense once she gets into college. Also, Lisa, if you were so highfalutin' too moralistic to even appear in "The Last Time" (which I still do not understand why she did not choose to OPPOSE it in her character---even though the episode "shows young girls sex before marriage is okay", at least those young girls would see one of them does NOT value that. Why would she throw away that opportunity? [sigh]...), not only did you appear in the episode where Tootie starts to have sex, in a car, but you appeared in the reunion TLC episode with the Lost Girl where Nancy is pregnant with a baby out of wedlock! Why did she agree to appear in that show? Or did she have a problem with the script at all? Funny how it's always only the TFT script. Hm. (don't worry, Lisa---I may really disagree with you and have issues with this, but if you ever visit my home for an interview, I respect you enough to keep my shoes on the entire time! lol*) *[unlike one guy who interviewed her in his home much-too-casually-barefoot...had to say that because anyone who reads my parenthetical without knowing this might think it otherwise sounds odd ] Lorimar Television 04-09-2019, 01:24 AM How COULD you, Eights? You know, Retro, how you lamet the fact that with Sue Ann gone at the start of season 2, that eliminates "the conservative" from the cast? Well, Blair seems to actually kind of "become" Sue Ann in the conservative sense once she gets into college. I see your point, and I somewhat agree, in the sense that Blair becomes this elite, somewhat conservative Alex P. Keaton-type greed-is-good character, to some extent. However, Sue Ann was never a David Stockman-esque trickle-down-theory Republican who believed wealth would eventually reach the lower class, if you just keep giving it to the rich. Sue Ann's moral code prevented her from "looking out for number one", as she claims Blair is doing in "Emily Dickinson". Instead, Sue Ann believed morality began with the family: parents setting the example for their children by staying together. Sue Ann's Midwestern family values share some characteristics with modern conservatism, and she even goes overboard with mocking two people who don't share her sense of morality (Home Run Helen and Natalie), but I believe these were temporary lapses in judgement, and not the on-going snobbery of Blair. I also do not understand any of this. (don't worry, Lisa---I may really disagree with you and have issues with this, but if you ever visit my home for an interview, I respect you enough to keep my shoes on the entire time! lol*) RetroGuy2000 04-09-2019, 02:32 AM And who got Nancy, Eights? Huh? WHO??? Tootie got the Donna Summer records, according to "Who Am I?". She also got the invisible boyfriend, in "Dear Me". She also inherited Nancy's love for acting. Blair got Nancy's love for Baryshnikov, as well as Nancy's love of early '80s fashions and at least some of her phone habits, according to the number of calls she expected to get in "Sex Symbol". Natalie got the blue Eastland sweater. Lorimar Television 04-09-2019, 02:42 AM Very good points, Retro. '80sSitcoms 04-09-2019, 10:22 AM I see your point, and I somewhat agree, in the sense that Blair becomes this elite, somewhat conservative Alex P. Keaton-type greed-is-good character, to some extent. Yeah, I was thinking more in the family values way. Blair is much more of a prude as the years go on than she was in earlier seasons. I mean jeez, she is HORRIFIED at Cliff dancing in a strip club, even after he explains he's doing it to pay his way through medical school. And even though Lisa doesn't appear in "The Last Time", you just sense that Blair is a "sex is AFTER marriage"-type character by this point (which is baffling, then, that Blair is the one they wanted to have lose her virginity. You'd think if it'd be anyone, it'd be "their precious Jo", who was groomed to be the grounding center of the show). '80sSitcoms 04-09-2019, 10:25 AM Tootie got the Donna Summer records, according to "Who Am I?" Did she? I thought I remembered DS being mentioned in Alex's episode (Mrs. Garrett's Alex, not pineapple airhead Alex), but I don't recall it from WAI. She inherited Nancy's love for acting. Yes! Nancy's first detail, and they gave it to Tootie. Blair got at least some of her phone habits, according to the number of calls she expected to get in "Sex Symbol". She doesn't seem to "live" on the phone as Nancy did though. She just gets lots of calls because she's one of the most beautiful and popular girls in school. I thought I remembered DS being mentioned in Alex's episode (Mrs. Garrett's Alex, not pineapple airhead Alex), but I don't recall it from WAI. Isn't that a Donna Summer song Carl and Tootie dance to, in the dance contest? They knew their moves, as if they had rehearsed to the song many times. Yes! Nancy's first detail, and they gave it to Tootie. Yeah, I often wonder what it must have been like for Felice, watching her acting attribute being given to Tootie instead of her. She doesn't seem to "live" on the phone as Nancy did though. She just gets lots of calls because she's one of the most beautiful and popular girls in school. True, she doesn't spend every waking minute on the phone... she's too busy in front of the mirror! RetroGuy2000 04-09-2019, 11:07 PM Haha yes, Nancy even appeared in and mentioned Roger in "Dear Me".
