Hey, I just made a connection tonight---Mrs. Garrett and her 7 girls celebrate France on Parents' Night in season 1, and Mrs. Garrett and 3 of those girls actually go to the real actual France in season 4!

I flew with Mrs. Garrett and the girls to Paris tonight, and was along for all of their adventures. I'll wait until watching actual season 4 episodes tomorrow, after I've let the girls have time to return home and get settled back in. :)

But, what happened was, there was an early season 3 episode where the house caught on fire, and David found a picture of Valerie in his incinerated room, all burnt. Actually, you don't even see anything of her in the picture, you just see the frame and a bit of charred paper in it, and you just deduce that it was a picture of his mother (he nor Sandy ever say it's her, but we all know the implication is it is).

I DVR-ed "The Hogan Family" last year and binged it all the way through, so that was my refresher course. :)

Also: I kinda really wish Nancy had been Natalie's "Louise" in "The Source" instead of Annie. I mean, not that I necessarily want Nancy to have had a secret abortion off screen, but man, with viewers' history with her, and her iconic relationship with Roger, boy would that have been a way to really hit that episode home. And it would have really bonded Nancy and Natalie and immediately strengthened their friendship. They could have been like this as the episode's ending:

There are other lovely touches like this, throughout the series: an early Mrs. Garrett reference to her sister, "Beverly", Chef Antoine visiting Eastland after the trip to France, and even the nighttime exterior shot of the Eastland dorm in the final episodes of FOL.

These touches are one of the things that set FOL apart from most other sitcoms. Some writer cared enough to write these things in, sometimes years after they were originally referenced.

When it comes to the movies, it depends on the person's preference. The Facts of Life Goes To Paris was a romantic drama. You had Blair trying to find love, Jo finding love and then crying at the end when she had to leave him, and Mrs. Garrett getting close to the guy at the hotel. It was very boring as well with Natalie and Tootie helping the alcoholic writer. This is my second favorite of the 3 TV movies.

The Facts of Life Down Under tried having excitement with the jewel thief storyline and Natalie stranded in the outback. It wasn't a romantic drama. For me, this is my favorite of the 3 TV Movies. Each of the girls story wasn't boring and was actually entertaining to watch. My only complaint is that it isn't referenced in the series as something they did. When Pippa came to the show, I thought they would at least mention they had been to Australia before. It would have been a perfect time to.

The Facts of Life Reunion is my least favorite of the 3 movies. With no Jo, it wasn't really a reunion. The least they could have done was brought back the season 1 girls and give those fans of that season a little closure since Nancy wasn't big on returning to the role that made her a star.

It's fine to feel that way but in reality it is a television movie of the series just like Paris and Down Under. It does count especially since it does continue the stories of the characters from the show. If it was a movie ignoring the events of the series, I would agree with you. Tootie's brother Marshall has clearly been to Eastland before, as he already knows everyone there, and they are all familiar with him. Jo even calls him "Marsh". That's nice to see the familiarity there. :)

Tootie also claimed in one episode to have two brothers, so I wonder which one Marshall is? Is he the oldest, or do they have an even older brother? I like to think of Tootie as the baby of the family, so I'll consider both her brothers older. Maybe the third Ramsey child was several years older than Marshall and Tootie wasn't as close to him.

Lisa really was being picky. Apparently her religion is fine with children being conceived out of wedlock, but is opposed to two people having sex out of love? The story was written pretty well. I don't know how other fans feel, but I think they did a good job with it. If it was Natalie having sex with a stranger we never saw before, yeah that would have looked trashy. Snake and Natalie had been going together for over a year. It was someone she was falling in love with so it wasn't like it tainted her character or the show IMO. I also agree with Mindy. Lisa is an actor and should have done what the writers did. HOWEVER!!!!! Not with Casey though. If Blair was going to lose her virginity, I would have preferred it be Cliff she lost it to. He really loved her. Casey seemed like he was happy to have a pretty rich woman next to him instead of seeing Blair for Blair.

Finally saw Mrs G's final episode. It was nice, but its harder to watch now that Charlotte really is gone. :(

Hey! There's another Mr. Garrett reference in season 4! Wow, 2 references just 4 episodes apart!

The first is in "Let's Party", which I pointed out earlier, and this 2nd one is in "Who's On First?". I think it's in one of the parts where Jo's talking about her adventure in the stock market, and Mrs. Garrett says "My ex-husband was a gambler" and says something about not liking to see $ wasted, I think.

It's neat watching the Blair/Natalie/Tootie scene in the lounge talking about Gil, and pretending it's still the show with the full original cast. Just think of it as the Lost Girls just happening to not be in that scene.

Also, WOF has one of the silliest lines that always makes me laugh just 'cause of how ridiculous it is. It's after Tootie has made popcorn and is eagerly waiting for Natalie to get back so they can finally have some catch-up time, after Natalie's been spending all her time with Gil. Well, when Nat comes back but says she has to leave right away, Tootie sadly glances down at her big bowl of popcorn and says,

Such an apex episode, but sadly, right up at the end of the cafeteria era. This episode hungers you for even more "slumber party"-esque episodes where we never leave the girls' room, but knowing that era has reached its end with the next episode, it's so bittersweet. And while Blair wanted her own parable and tale of her graduation gift from Mrs. Garrett, I never stopped to realized before, Mrs. Garrett knit that sweater for Blair herself. The fact that she knit a sweater for Blair herself should show her just how much she cares about her. I mean, she did see that, but you'd think that might be enough, lol. Oh, well. It is a good comedic moment..."Blair!" "Well, you got your ro-ock!" lol

Oh, and there were 2 really good then current pop culture references in the last part of season 4!

In "Help From Home", Mrs. Garrett says, "Jo, you're playing Pac-Man with my nerves!" :lol: Awesome!

And in the last scene of "Graduation", Jo reassures Natalie and Tootie who are afraid the group is splitting up, that "And we're all gonna go check out that new Star Wars picture when it comes out", lol---that "picture" is then yet to be released "Return of the Jedi"! Cool!

Episodes 5-01 (Eastland), 5-02 (Eastland), 5-05 (Geri), 5-06 (Halloween), 5-12 (Christmas), 5-22 (Geri), 5-25 (Flashbacks to Eastland), 5-26 (Flashbacks to Eastland), 6-08 (Eastland shown, even though they pretend it's Langley), 6-26 (Eastland discussed), 8-01 (Mrs. G's marriage), 8-02 (Mrs. G's marriage), 8-06 (Lost Girls return), 9-23 (Eastland), and 9-24 (Eastland): a 15-episode season with a ton of Eastland, Mrs. Garrett, and Lost Girls! Add in nine filler episodes of your choice, bridging the gaps between episodes, and you have a full season that is pretty amazing! :lol:

Currently watching Post-Christmas Card when Natalie gets her first credit card. She says, “Windows in the World is the most incredible restaurant”. Kind of interesting hearing it mentioned on FOL. If you didn’t know, Windows on the World was the restaurant on top of north tower in the World Trade Center. I’ve eaten at the new WTC restaurant called One Dine, but from what I’ve seen, it’s nowhere near as impressive as the original.

I was kind of annoyed feeling that Blair went too far in her tantrum on Mrs. Garrett, since Mrs. Garrett had just told her a few months back how Blair had grown and matured more than any girl she'd known. Yet there she was all temperamental over the whole Gamma Gamma catering issue. But, at least they wrote her nice sincere sentiments when she made up with Mrs. Garrett; and Mrs. Garrett was right (per usual!), that she herself was also partly to blame.

It's funny how we see NOTHING of the opening of Edna's Edibles. One episode Mrs. Garrett buys a junked up space, the next episode they've been in business for weeks! Holy cow! :candle: :cow: :candle:

Yet, with Over Our Heads (the name of which is a whole 'nother topic :rolleyes: ), we saw EVERYTHING of the birth of that: the idea of it, the planning of it, even the building of it, and the grand opening of it! But yeah, a 2-part episode on Mrs. Garrett leaving Eastland to open her own business, and we see NOTHING of the developing or opening of that business...what a shame...

The "stage name" theory is pretty plausible. I don't think the "secret marriage" theory sounds credible, but the "stage name" hypothesis works, as a fan-wanked explanation.

So did "Another World", starting in the late '80s, and until 1997 or so. I am SO glad my favorite era of the show, that I love to watch, is in the Freeze Frame era! :loveya: A lot of them were SO effective, it really adds to it!

I just saw the season 8 finale and wow Tootie got totally Nancied (and Cindied)! She left for a summer job at the start of the episode! She couldn’t have been in more than 3 minutes. But what’s really odd is the Australia movie is the next episode. How did Tootie leave for the summer, plus Beverly Ann and Andy were going to take the RV on a trip, AND Jo leaves for California, but they all go to Australia together? Hope the movie will address it but I highly doubt it...

The movie airs out of order in syndication. It also aired out of order on NBC. Judging by the hairstyle of the girls, the Australia movie should have been shown in the beginning of the season around Write & Wrong and Off Broadway Baby. NBC liked airing this show out of order so it makes sense syndication does the same thing.

According to Wiki, it was filmed in the summer of 1986. I'm assuming they filmed a few or more episodes of the 8th season first before starting with the movie. If not, that must have been weird for the girls to start their first work experience with Cloris on a TV movie in another country without seeing how her character is introduced in the series.

I have nothing to add to what Christopher so informatively said. I looked up the production guide and the episode guide, and there is no indication of when the "Down Under" movie was taped. :confused:

And regarding Tootie, after 8 years it wouldn't really strike me if someone was in an episode for just a few minutes, lol.

I watched the movie, it was ok. The Paris movie I wouldn't say was better or worse, other than having Charlotte in it. I noticed the first 10 mins of the movie sounds ADR'd, must've been windy when they filmed that part. Its a very contrived plot though. Having Eastland alumni go to their sister school? I'm sure viewers were confused when season 9 started with a continuation of the season 8 finale with the movie in-between.

Haha ok I didn't really mind it. I liked the different settings and it made Australia look like a nice place to visit. I knew who the jewel thief was right away and who the real detective was, though.

I made an MP3 of the Aussie theme music! :D It's great for a breezy summer Saturday with some adventure in the air!

I like Down Under a lot better. Since I have the DVD version of the film, it was fun seeing more parts that helped the story flow better. My only gripe is why Blair said to Jo that Andy would have the case. Even in the original broadcast airing, there's still no reason given why he would.

Syndication, like USA for example, aired the show by production order. They would air Down Under after the season 8 finale. I remember they also aired season 6 out of order starting with the two episodes without Jo before Summer of 84. Down Under was filmed in 1986 so I don't get why their production order for season 8 had that as the last thing produced.

My favorite part about Down Under has nothing to do with Over Our Heads. I prefer Blair and Jo stories. They're a stronger duo IMO. Natalie and Tootie are alright together, but I never get as entertained with them as I do with Blair and Jo. That's why I prefer Down Under. Also because it had a little excitement to it and not a romantic dramedy like Paris.

Plus why would a grown man who drinks a lot, even in the morning, want to spend time with two high school girls he doesn't know? It was a dumb plot for me and kind of creepy. Why does it have to be creepy just because he's a grown man? They were hounding him, he didn't want to have anything to do with them until they just would not let up, lol. It's not like the season 1 final scene in the opening credits where "Creepy Stranger" is standing in the background just standing there frozen leering at these underage girls wrestling around (okay, he may not even be looking at them directly, but still, it's odd that he's just standing back there motionless, lol...there are screecaps of him here at this board).

It was too unbelievable and just not normal the story they did with those two. If Mrs. Garrett knew about that, she wouldn't have stood for it. It's just too dangerous for kids to do things like that.

I enjoyed ep 3 quite a bit where Blair is being gossiped about having an affair with her married professor. Reminds me of a certain other ep with gossip. ;) Though it was awfully nasty of his wife to treat Blair like she did. Yeah he has a history, but coming over to the house and dumping his laundry for Blair?

That's the only quality episode of season 9. Everything else is stupid that year. I don't think Rumor Has It is like Gossip. The people in Rumor Has It were vicious. They were trying to hurt Blair and Katt with their lies. Tootie was no where near as nasty and mean like them in Gossip. I like that Rumor Has It was done in their adult years. It's still a social issue that continues in society within adults. They can be really mean and ruin a person's life like it did with Katt. I'm glad you got to see it. N@N always skipped that episode.

Well I don't know about you, but I'd rather be hanging with people my own age than kids. Especially if I was in a different country like this story. I wouldn't want kids bothering me.

I know! She must have been really preoccupied with her cooking school anxiety, lol. Maybe she thought since Blair knew Paris so well that she would kind of be a "home base" for the girls or keep tabs on everyone. But yeah, except for Jo who just "went off", lol.
