Talking about Nick's death - wouldn't Alex as his heir end up with his father's share (even with a loss) of the business? Did Ann have to buy Alex off? She mentioned in the episode "Shake Hands" the business had a debt/loss of $2400 or so dollars. (rounding it up)

We know the firm was stable by the end of Season 6, so the only way she could have so much debt was she had paid off Alex for his father's share. I find it highly unlikely Ann would cut Alex out of anything owed to him from his father's work.

However, There is that issue of two months owed back rent mentioned in the episode (Could that be part of the outstanding debit) - which might also give an idea of how long Nick's been gone - 3 months?- without an artist and the loss of a partner, the handful of accounts they have would suffer, but I doubt Ann lost them all. She was interviewing artists in "Shake Hands" but she should have had someone sometime earlier - it's as if the writers couldn't settle on how long it had been since Nick's death.

As Felicia was the custodial parent at time of death, would Alex have received SSI survivor benefits for his father's death? (Children till 18 if a parent dies receives benefits - the lost of Child Support,etc)

The mishandling of Nick's death is the 2nd sore spot of the show next to Mac's issues. I'm sure all of us have run in our heads our own "episodes" of how they might have handled it over several episodes.

But as I've said - Lear made the right call after James and Edith - both hurt the respective shows and they were never the same again (Archie starting to Date really hit things home) and ODAAT was stable the year before Nick, Nick's Year and the Year After. (With just some light variance due to time slot moves)

There's also the status of the relationship between the two - it seemed things were "reset" at the end of "Indianapolis Story" - Close, but not involved, focusing on the work relationship and friendship rather than a relationship (bot to mention the advice on being a divorced parent.) All this from three lines of Dialog from Nick without Ann saying anything.

I'd like to think that all happened "off screen", They just chose not to explore it. Those could have been the best they ever did, but as I've said, Lear did it before on "Good Times".

Again, James and Edith deaths both affected their respective shows that neither recovered from, both creatively and in the ratings.

The only real effect on the ratings of ODAAT in the later years were the time slot moves Yr 8 Sun-Mon, Yr 9 Sun-Wed-Mon AND CBS Still wanted the show for more seasons. (Year 8 was #16 with 19 Million, and Year 9 was #47 but the network moving it to Wednesday for the back half of 9 lopsided the ratings after they had given up hope to get Bonnie and Val to reconsider. The Rating for Season 9's Sunday nights only showed a slight drop across the board for all 4 returning series and stable ratings for Goodnight Beantown)

So the show was protected from a "death" drop in the ratings., but not the eventual "We'll move it to fix slots since it's ending" drops.

The Monday Season 8 mid-season to to strengthen a slot with a slight drop in ratings,the network still wanted 2 more years at this point so it wasn't a factor and The Season 9 Winter-Spring move was counter-programming with a 1/3 lost in viewers, but CBS did not give up supporting the show and the last 2 and the spin off aired on Mondays with an improvement - but Who the heck remembers the show that ran with it on Wednesday, "Mama Malone" that sat on the shelf for a year?

I say if Bonnie and/or Val had signed for Season 10, the show would not have been moved into that Wednesday slot for sure. I mean come on "Fall Guy" on ABC (Winning the time-slot in the 3rd year) and "Real People" (Struggling in it's last year) on NBC

Perhaps the Season 9 and 10 deal would have put the show on a stronger night besides Sunday - I would have kept the show Monday but at 9:00pm (It was a 9:30pm with the Season 8 move so earlier was better for the show) I'd keep AFTER M*A*S*H at 9:30pm and put Newhart to Sundays at 8:30. . There's one thing for sure - CBS would have passed on what became the show's spiritual successor, "Kate and Allie".

I'll say it again, a show a network signs to keep, it it protected timeslot wise - look at the history of just CBS itself as an example.

But I Digress - Remember, TV was a 3 player chess game between 1955 and 1985. It's like replaying old football games in your head differently. Timeslots,seasons,ratings,etc....

...and it's still Norman Lear's 3rd most successful show :)

I think Chiller re ran the series a few years ago, but I don't remember seeing that one, I think the rare times it does get re run it's the same handful of episodes. And the Michael one along with some others gets left out.

Love the 60's Batman and movie. Also really enjoy the old Batman serials from the 40's.
The Incredible Hulk, Wonder Woman, and even the live action 70's Spiderman were favorite shows I watched when they were originally airing. Also love the George Reeves Superman series. These were how I learned of these superheroes when I was a kid. Also the hokey Captain America TV movies.

The shows are time compressed, but I've not figured by how much, I'm guessing it's based on how much editing can be done - the target seems to be 20 minutes,30 seconds solid.

When BATMAN '66 aired on THE HUB, it was time-compressed IN SPOTS to bring it down time wise. (24:00) Opening and Fights WERE NOT compressed, dialog scenes were - but no editing!

Where I live it only hit the high 80's today! That's the thing out here, you can go like say an hour away and the temperature can be really higher or really lower. Or even in the same place it can go from being really hot and within a few hours get really cold! And can drastically change from day to day!:eek: Like I can wear shorts and flip flops in December some days and some days in June I'm in a sweater and furry moccasins! :) California is strange !! :crazy:

I HATE temperatures/weather like that. Where I am in New York gets hot enough in the summer. Yesterday it was over 90 degrees.... horrendous! I HATE summer.

Yeah! That is desert there , It has really low humidity, but still over 100 is HOT regardless of humidity! :eek: Where I am doesn't get quite THAT hot (well it can, and it has) but rarely and the humidity will be lower when it's that hot!!! ;) Out here in the summer, it's HOT but we don't get rain (much less humidity ) and we don't get the mosquitoes like back east! ;)

Oh and yeah!!! Max was really cute as Alex's coach in Hardball !:) :heart: I had to miss it!!!:( DAMN WORK, :mad: but I have seen it already lots of times!!;) But still sad when I have to miss my baby!!! :(

Today I got to see Grandma Romano reading Schneider's tarot fortune in the cards. That was a pretty good one when Dwayne was freaking out about the mob! :lol:

This was the first of the 3 episodes shot in season 6 (Which was delayed by the Actors Strike but they still shot 25 shows), but held for 7 due to the pending writers strike affecting it. It was the last aired in season 7, and the last held show for the season.

CBS held it for over a year! (622) This situation also caused CBS to hold 2 shows shot in Season 7 for 8. (723 and 724 - Last two shot for Season 7)

The production order and the air order is interesting in general, but when you throw in the 6-7-8 issue, it muddles things. Refer to my previous post on this.

I always wondered if Michael made acting appearances in odd episodes he directed to keep his SAG/AFTRA membership active along side his DGA membership.

...or at least they were cost saving measures for cameo but not extra parts where as director he was already being paid as director and would be more willing take S/A guild minimum for his appearance than say another actor would.

...or he just still liked to keep his hand in being on both sides of the camera.

The question is where and how will we see him again - director or actor - I still say Lear should give him all 13 episodes of ODAAT NF Season 2 to direct this time around since he's apparently available. Going back to the single director per season (with a fill in when needed) the original had might be beneficial.

There's only 42 episodes of the series LOGO has yet to air once - and then it should loop around. ALICE started over after reaching the end of the series on Thursday afternoon.

Not sure if I'll be tracking multiple run data once the series had completed a full cycle the hard way (But I'll try to keep up with weekly listings) - but no episode had run more than 3 times, and with the cycle-back, skipping and weekend runs some only aired once or twice.

Mitchell Schein was the one getting divorced from his wife (she was leaving him for an Orthodox Jewish guy) and Mitchell was pretty much making fun of the guy and denouncing his own religion (He was Jewish by birth but not a practicing Jew) ! And the Rabbi's were warning him to cool it but he was being really cocky (he was CUTE, being a pain in the butt, but adorable and even if he's being a jerk you gotta love him cause he's so adorable and hot) ANYWAY: :D He basically got screwed in the end!!! It was really funny,:D but kind of spooky too! Divine intervention in his ex wife's favor!! :eek: :confused:

I'd say he has pretty much hung up his acting hat! :( Except for maybe occasional cameo's on shows he is directing. Like Baby Daddy, when he played a director!!!:) That was a rare treat to see him in front of the camera!:) But unfortunately I think he just wants to direct and not act anymore!!!:( MAN I'd love to see this "Silver Fox" still be acting!!!:eyes: And I think a lot of people would!! Maybe he doesn't realize just how many fans he still has that miss him!!! :( :heart:

Yes Ma'am that's my baby!!:) That is Michael guest starring on Crazy like a Fox!!! The other guy ,actor John Rubenstein is cute too with his very curly hair!!:)

Something I noticed for the first time - when the show moves from Metromedia to Universal City, (Season 8) the "look" of the show changes.

The Lighting seems slightly brighter,done differently and it's also likely the camera equipment was better. (New technical crew?) Sets are the same,transported cross-town along with the other Embassy shows produced at the same time. nothing seems missing.

It's more noticeable than the slight changes-upgrades that Metromedia had over the 7 seasons the show was there as television equipment continued to improve.

Than Thurs and Fri, I have to miss ! I'm going on a road trip up North from Thurs.- Sunday! I will be back Sunday afternoon for Michael's B'day ! ;) Than that will be the end of trips for me for a while, so you are all stuck with me after that! :D

I don't think it had anything to do with Mac's issues. I'm sure the volume of fan mail she got (and I'm sure they kept track of viewer feedback) was a factor, I'd say she really didn't get enough centric episodes till season three.

"Barbara's Emergence" was shot 7th for Season 2,aired 5th might be the first episode that Barbara finally gets center stage, and it wasn't until "Barbara Plus Two" (Shot an aired 21st in Season 2) she got her second centric show.

Rest of the time they still writer her as supporting when most of the time she has more to do then Pat in many episode!

She gets great material seasons 5 onward,that is for sure. But one show has to stand out at the point where Barbara's increased popularity is put into play in a strong script, doesn't it? "Barbara's Friend" might be the one. (Season 3, Shows 9&10 shot 5th&6th) Val's good in that story.

It's got to be one of the few shows where the eventually created "also starring" co-star still is the last one credited as they were when they were just a "with"! (Guess it doesn't matter if she was paid close to what Bonnie was in the later seasons!)
