And in "A Bug's Life", Niles is the stick-bug (that looks like a stick) and Elaine (from Seinfeld) is the princess

Yeah, I figured out it was Neuman half way through. And one of the main reasons I went to see A Bug's Life was because I heard David and Julia were in it.
Kelsey was also in the Anastasia movie, but I didnt' like that cartoon.

And don't think I haven't watched "A Bug's Life" several times to hear DHP's character, "Slim" say... "I'm the only stick with eye balls!" I love that line!
Jane Leeves was in the movie "James and the Giant Peach" - she played "Ladybug.." haha! I remember seeing that movie at the theatre!:D

Thats because cartoons without Disney are trash, plain and simple.
John Mahoney plays the crazy old captain in "Atlantis" (the cartoon)
And Niles is the big Red Pill in "Osmosis Jones" (a terrible movie by the way -- we had to watch it in Biology, better than work, but still not good)

It is better than every animated Disney movie with the exception of Alice In Wonderland

Yes I have, I always thought it was a subdivision of Disney, like those "Brave Little Toaster" things, but I guess not.
The Iron Giant was good.... but I can name at least a dozen Disney movies I prefered.

I love "The Brave Little Toaster!" That's one of my favorite animated movies:)
Chambers 09-12-2004, 03:36 PM Iron Giant, Brave Little Toasters...I remember those. They were good, but Disney still has the overall best animated feature films ever.

"The Little Mermaid" was my all time favorite when I was little! I watched it every day and still know the dialogue!:D

Oh jesus, don't get me STARTED on disney...
My sister, who is currently 32, never grew out of the Disney Phase. Between getting her bachelor's and getting her master's, she went over to France for 2 years and was Blanche Neige over at Disneyland Paris. Then when she came back over here, she was Snow White at Disneyland itself. My life has always been saturated with all things Disney because of her.
I'm serious, she knows the HARMONY to all the Disney songs, including the ones playing at the rides at Disneyland.
Even though she now has a Master's in Business Something or Other and has some boring businessy job, she still frequents Disneyland (lives just down the street from it) so much so that she knows the names of almost all the current employees, and, well, you should see her apartment.
Snow White EVERYWHERE.
It's kinda scary. Mostly because I always think of "Snow, Glass, Apples" when Snow White is mentioned, so I don't get a lot of sleep when I'm staying over there.
*sigh*
Man, now I miss my sister!
Chambers 09-12-2004, 06:57 PM Disney's Snow White is a little scary. The cartoon is beautiful, but the character of Snow White freaks me out with her high-pitched voice and all.

See, it makes perfect sense for us to like the Evil Queen. She reminds me a lot of the original Lilith - as does the Witch from the Narnia books, who actually has a connection to the real Lilith.

Yes, and C.S. Lewis alludes to the whole being on top thing. At the end, Aslan rolls over her...I can't remember the sentence, but it was a very clear allusion.

Chambers,
I'm not sure what I'll change it to. Probably something Cheers and Dick Van Dyke Show related. Maybe "Petrie-Malone"? Nah thats kinda corny. Maybe just "Kurt..."
Back to the drawing boards.
TDVDS is an awesome show! It was the Cheers of the '60s! The DVDs kick ass! If you get TV Land, you might wanna watch the show before you buy the DVDs-- just to see what you're buying.
I'm glad to hear you enjoyed my fanfic, but the plot isn't that original, so many sitcoms have done a plot similar to that. It's funny that you commented on my DVDS fanfic now, cuz I just read your "Cheers Again, Ep. 2" fanfic and I just replied to that thread about it! I enjoyed it alot! ;) Someday I would like to write a Cheers fanfic, but I need to get to know the characters and their history a little better before I do.

Pirate Jenny 09-13-2004, 01:35 PM *sings the "I hate creative writing" song*
I've decided I hate creativity in general.
Give me figures, give me mathematical equations, scientific theories, chemical formulas, just DON'T give me another crappy short story about suicide by some melodramatic, illiterate college student who DOESN'T know how to write to peer edit!
I have lost all faith in human kind.
"Periacta turned down the music playing on her stereo, and, after one desperate look around to grasp at something vaguely well written, and, finding nothing, she drew the razor against the soft, pale flesh of her thin wrists and let the scarlet essense of life drain from her veins.
She was at peace."
jesus christ.

Pirate Jenny 09-14-2004, 01:45 AM Ok! Here's Lilith's profile from Toasting Cheers: An Episode Guide, 1982-1993 by Dennis A. Bjorklund.
(Copyright 1997 by McFarland & Company Inc.)
Lilith Sternin-Crane
Childhood and Family
Lilith was born in 1957 and began wearing her hair in a bun when she was three days old. The daughter of a Jewish family, Lilith was not very close to her relatives and had a very demanding mother, Betty Sternin. Lilith was never able to stang up to her mother and became very submissive in her presence; her childhood was filled with fear of her mother's scorn and contempt. Although Lilith's parents' occupations were unknown, her grandfather was a butter and egg man in New Jersey. Her great uncle was born in 1894, and would commence a rousing rendition of "Over There" whenever he was Frasier (whom he referred to as "colonel").
One traumatic childhood memory was when Lilith's father asked her to close her eyes, and then left for two years. Lilith had at least one childhood friend, Dorothy Greenberg, who later moved to New York. Dorothy begame a professional student specializing in the comuneros uprising in Paraguay during the 17th century.
In high school Lilith was a bad seed and never learned to drive because she was too busy having fun! She eventually learned to drive two decades later, after convincing Sam to be her instructor. Sam quit after one lesson when Lilith gave a trucker the finger, ginned the car up to 80 m.p.h., and ran him off the road. The bumper sticker on the truck read, "Insured by Smith & Wesson." She then pushed her finger into the folds of the trucker's neck (thinking Sam could take him), and Sam sustained a bloody nose.
Personal
Lilith had cold, gray eyes*, and one foot larger than the other (which necessitated left and right sock drawers). Her delicate constitution forbade her from consuming shallots, and she was allergic to strawberries. Moreover, Lilith loathed being photographed because the film was always overexposed, making her look white as a ghost.
As for her personal interests, Lilith's favorite flower was the rose (her mother loved cascading lilies), she loved to bathe in Mr. Bubble, and her favorite hiding place was the balcony of Cheers. Moreover, Lilith's favorite Marx brother was Zeppo (it cracked her up when he stood there with no expression on his face), and favorite figure from the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood was Christina Rosetti, the sister of Dante Gabriel Rosetti, a 19th-century poet.
Lilith knew the lyrics to "My Funny Valentine," and the one piece of music that turned her into a cheap tramp was "Che gelida manina" (roughly translated to "your tiny hand is frozen") from La Boheme . After watching a male stipper, Randy, at her bridal shower, Lilith was never able to listen to the song "Shock the Monkey" by Peter Gabriel without crying.
Lilith believed the best way to overcome the fear of aging was reliving your childhood and listening to heavy doses of CCR (Creedence Clearwater Revival, a 1970's rock group). She first experienced the death of a loved one when her favorite laboratory research rat, Whitey, died.
Other miscellaneous information: Lilith refused to have sex during the daylight hours; she could hear a dog whistle; she refused to allow a Christmas tree in the house; and the words she will always cherish are "Lilith, I want to marry you anyway" (spoken by Frasier).
Some of the pejorative nicknames used in reference to Lilith include: Blimpy (referring to her pregnancy and being two weeks overdue), Madame Ovary, Brunhilda, Elvira, Death with Hips, Ice Cube in Heels, Morticia, and Chalk Face.
Career
Lilith worked as a research psychologist at Boston General Hospital earning $60,000 per year, and her professional accreditations include M.D., Ph.D., E.D.D. and A.P.A. She preached the psychological tenets of behaviorism and despised Sigmund Freud because his theories are outdated, unsupported by clinical data, sexist and superstitious. Lilith was a member of the Psychoanalytic and Social Therapeutic Practitioners Society, and her lab assistant was Otto.

Enjoy.
We'll continue where we left off, with "Career"
In her research, Lilith worked extensively with rats, and she believed that the laboratory rats worshiped* her as a goddess. She had two favorite rats: Whitey and Whiskers. After Whitey died, Whiskers (also known by the lab identification number 17A) became Lilith's favorite.
Lilith's clinical sucess culminated in the publication of the book Good Girls, Bad Boys. (The title was her editor's idea; she wanted A Cross-sectional Study of Control Group Females with a Tendency Toward Self-destruction, Vis-a-vis Damaging Relationships with Members of the Opposite Sex.) Lilith's research hypothesized that women are attracted to men who are bad for them because thet represent danger. However, once outgrowing the "bad boy," they make mature descisions and eventually lead lives with upstanding, substantial men. Lilith promoted her book with a guest appearence on "Teatime with Brenda," hosted by Brenda Balzak on channel 13 at 3:30 p.m., on February 15, 1990. Lilith used Sam and Frasier to represent the "bad boy" and "good boy," respectively. While describing Sam's physical attraction, she became titillated** and propelled herself at him. Although nothing ever came of the incident, Frasier was quite distraught.
Lilith also had sucess with a paper she wrote on sensory deprivation. She inadvertaently locked her lab assistant, Otto, in the isolation isolation chamber before leaving on a two-week vacation. What could have been a serious lawsuit turned into an award winning paper!
Miscellaneous information regarding her career: Lilith had two more years of dream analysis experience than Frasier; she authored more books than Frasier; and she wrote more articles in a year than he read.
Relationships--Frasier Crane
Lilith and Frasier had their first meaningful social interaction when they went on a date. However the evening was disastrous. Lilith ended the date early, and Frasier labeled her as passionless, stoic and emotionally numb. The closest they came to physical contact was Lilith slamming the car door on Frasier's hand. Although despising Frasier when they first met, Lilith subsequently admitted he was her first love (though Lilith's mother never outgrew her disdain for him). A few months later, they were reunited for a psychological debate on a local PBS program, "Psychology This Week." Since Lilith and Frasier were still embittered from their dating fiasco, they relished the opportunity to demonstrate their intellectual superiority.
Beneath the acrimony, Diane recognized the sexual attraction between them and gave Lilith a beauty makeover to soften and refine her rigid appearence. During the debate, Lilith and Frasier were excited to a sexual frenzy, and after a lengthy discussion using sexual metaphors, they ended the broadcast by playing footsy. Notwithstanding their embarrassment, they returned to Frasier's town house to express their feelings.
In their relationship, Frasier used various pet names to refer to Lilith, such as Sweet Potato, Peach Blossom, Blossom Bottom†, Little Chopped Salad,†† Parsnip, Wild Asparagus, Pea Pod, My Sweet, Sugar, Sugar Pants, Peanut Butter Cup, Buttercup, Popsicle, Jelly Bean, Moon Pie, Marine Melon, Angel, Angel Face, Dear Heart, My Treasure, Cherub, Dove Bar, Little Starlet, Little Badger‡, and Firebrand.
My wrist hurts. More tomorrow. Maybe.

Cool. Let us know! I can't wait till I finish this ****ing Lilith thing. There are too many ****ing exclamation points in it. And complete personality traits are assumed based on an offhand comment in one episode. That pisses me off. But mostly the exclamation points.
Bebe's bio should be better.
Pirate Jenny 09-17-2004, 05:22 AM *grumbles*
Continuing with the Relationships--Frasier
Frasier proposed marriage to Lilith at Cheers, and she responded "Yes, my steed. Yes." Although matrimony was inevitable, there were two incidents that nearly impeded their union. In the first, Frasier made disparaging comments about marriage, so Lilith gave him the opportunity to rescind his proposal and cancel the wedding. The other vexatious moment occured when Frasier asked Lilith to sign a prenuptial agreement. Aghast and dismayed by Frasier's request, Lilith retaliated by paying $2,000 for a romantic weekend with Sam (as part of a celebrity charity auction). Her plan worked. In a fit of jealous rage, Frasier stormed into the hotel room to reaffirm his love for Lilith (and forsook the notion of a prenuptial agreement*).
As the wedding approached, Rebecca organized a bridal shower at Carla's house, purchasing napkins with the inscription "Mazeltov Sy and Effie Kupperman" (Rebecca received a discount price when Sy left town with his secretary). The women had a wild evening highlighted by a male strip show, and Lilith became so intoxicated she propositioned the stripper, Randy. The party ended early when the women engaged in a fistfight over which was better, mayonnaise or Miracle Whip. In addition to organizing the bridal shower, Rebecca was the maid of honor (Even though they only knew each other a few months**). The wedding reception was held at Cheers; however, since Lilith's mother was not able to attend the wedding or reception, on their fifth wedding anniversary she demanded*** Lilith and Frasier re-enact their wedding vows.
Lilith's closest Bostonian friend was Rebecca. On one occasion, Lilith transformed Rebecca's image into something more professional and businesslike. Although Rebecca remained unnoticed at the corporate meeting in Melvill's, Lilith was offered a position as vice president of the eastern seaboard.
Relationships--Dr. Pascal
Lilith was involved in one other romantic relationship. After seven years of marriage, she found herself working side by side with researcher Dr. Louis Pascal. Lilith was attracted to Dr. Pascal (also known as Googie) primarily because he enabled her to act uncharacteristically spontaneous and uninhibited. He filled a void in Lilith's disciplined and regimented life. Although she tried to fill it with awards and accomplishments, Lilith eventually yearned for something else. Rebecca first discovered the adulterous† relationship when Lilith was enthusiastically kissing Dr. Pascal in his Lexus. Lilith confessed the truth to Frasier and announced he desire for a trial separation.
Lilith and Dr. Pascal arranged to cohabit in the Ecopod (a self contained, mile wide subterranean environment beneath the desert floor that was to serve as a prototype for an eventual space station for human colonization--like the ecopod, only on a larger scale). The plan was to have two humans occupy the Ecopod for one year, and Lilith was going to be part of this experiment. During her absence, Frasier was given custody of Frederick. Unfortunately, just moments after the lid to the Ecopod was sealed, Dr. Pascal revealed his claustrophobia, went insane, and invented an imaginary friend, Dr. Jaworski. (While she was there, Frasier provided prank telephone calls nightly.)
Lilith lived in the Ecopod for six months before escaping. However, the effects of living underground were indelible. Lilith insisted upon sleeping in the cellar (you can take the girl out of the Ecopod, but you can't take the Ecopod out of the girl!). Upon return to Boston, she caugt Frasier in bed with Rebecca. After considerable effort and pursuasion, Lilith and Frasier were reconciled.
Children
Lilith and Frasier's only child was Frederick. He was born on November 2††, 1989 (two weeks overdue), the same day as the 100th anniversary celebration of the opening of Cheers. Lilith experienced labor pains during the celebration and was accompanied to the hospital by Frasier and Sam. Since she had false labor pains, Frasier and Sam assisted another woman, Gail Aldrich, inthe delivery room, and Lilith gave birth iN THE backseat of the taxi (enduring the pain by biting dowb on the cab driver's foam rubber dice).
Frederick was one week old when he first visited Cheers, and returned the following day for a ceremonial fris (circumcision). Although the bris was originally scheduled at the Crane residence, Frasier kidnapped Frederick to save him from the knife. Lilith located the pair hiding in the Cheers office and reasoned with Frasier to allow the circumcision. The bris was performed by Dr. Levinson‡ in the Cheers poolroom and also functioned as the entertaiment for a corporate employee's retirement party.
Lilith opted to stay home to care for Frederick‡‡, but the Cranes also hired nannies such as Torsten, a Swedish male, and a young lady to whom Lilith referred to* as a 16-year-old bundle of breasts. Although Frederick was scheduled to attend a prestigious day care (Magic Hours Learning Center), he was not accepted because of an irascible confrontation between his parents at the conclusion of the admission interview.
Fredericks educational career suffered a further setback when his I.Q. test results showed he was average. Lilith and Frasier were despondent about this revelation and aghast that this was even conceivable, especially considering their stature and intelligence. Frasier ultimately blamed Lilith's inferior gene pool (i.e. the granddaughter of an egg and butter man from New Jersey).
When he was 11 months old, Frederick said his first word, "Norm!" His first concert was the Nanny Gee "1992 Tickle Tummy Tour"; his favorite song was Al Jolson's "Sonny Boy"; and his favorite book was The Runaway Bunny. Lilith forbade Frederick from playing with toys depicting violence.
At age 2, Frederick was nearly denied the ghoulish tradition to trick-or-treat on Halloween. Lilith despised the ritual of begging for non-nutritious treats from strangers, but conceded when the ritual was limited to Cheers. For his first Haloween experience, Frederick dressed as Spiderman (And Lilith dressed as Christina Rossetti**, her favorite figure from the Pre-Rafaelite Brotherhood).
*Haha, I bet he regrets that!
**FOR a few months...FOR! jesus.
***demanded THAT Lilith and Frasier re-enact. Good god!
† Hey, I think giant red "A"s emblazoned on one's chest make a nifty fashion statement!
†† Remember to vote, people! (if you're not a crazy foreigner or minor.)
‡ yeah, ok, um brises are performed by rabbis, not Dr, though the mohel (the dude that actually does the snipping) is often a Dr. Still, I saw no rabbi in that entire episode. It's not a RITUAL circumcision unless you have the ritual.
‡‡Uh, yeah, I was under the distinct impression that this set-up lasted for all of half of a day.
*"To whom Lilith referred to"? The grammatical errors in this book are making me want some laudanum.
**I've been to her house! It's in Bloomsbury, just around the corner from where Virginia Woolf lived as a young adult (albeit a century later). VW was infatuated with Christina Rosetti.
I have this Cheers book propped up on a shoe on my bed, and Apollo has climbed into it, and is now nibbling at the edge of the page. That's how much he loves Lilith.
I'm sure the library will be thrilled.
I'm.
****ing.
Done.
This was the worst bio of Lilith I've ever read. And that's saying a lot, because it's also the only one.
Tomorrow, I'll do Bebe's bio in the book (and hopefully avoid alliterations, too), which should be better, if only because the author probably didn't make such over-generalised conjectures. Or use as many exclamation points.

Childhood
On December 31, 1959*, Beatrice "Bebe" Neuwirth was born in Newark, New Jersey, the daughter of Lee Paul and Sydney Anne Neuwirth. Her German-American father is a mathematician who taught periodically at Princeton University. He also worked for the Institute of Defense Analysis where he developed an encrypter ued to ensure information safety. Her Russian-American mother is a painter and a former amateur dancer with the Princeton Regional Ballet. Bebe's brother, Peter, is a Harvard University graduate and a mathematician currently workingas an actuary.
Bebe was raised in Princeton, New Jersey, and admits to being a problem child. Her days were filled with indolence and youthful disobedience**. Bebe's moderately wild adolescence included being arrested for smoking marijuana when she was 13 years old and coasting through school† (learning some French in the process). Her father agreed that raising Bebe was occasionally difficult because she was very independent, fierce, and determined. Her mother also remembers Bebe exerting independence through ballet. She was a willful little ballerina who would commence with a very graceful bourrée step and then radically shift to a jazz flourish final††.
At age fourm Bebe fondly remembers accompanying her mother to see The Nutcracker. She was mesmerized by the dancing and desperately wanted to begin ballet lessons. The following year, Bebe started ballet classes, and has danced onstage since age even. She always dreamed of becoming a ballet dancer, and the only other career she seriously contemplated was being a veterinarian‡
Unfortunately, at age 13 or 14 Bebe realized her ballerina dream would neveer materialize. Despite having a petite ballerina's body and being fast and light onstage, Bebe's level of strength and technique was limited, her training outside of New York restricted her development, and she definately had flat feet. Although crushed emotionally, she quickly found a comparable careeer in dance. When Bebe was 15 years old, she accompanied a friend to Manhattan to see Bob Fosse' musical Pippen‡‡. Yjr intriguing production helped Bebe realize that dancing was an attainable field of study. Although it could never replace ballet, the musical Pippen‡‡ helped Bebe make the stransition from ballet to Broadway.
Personal Life
Bebe is much more multifaceted then her austere character Lilith*, but describes herself in colors a shade closer--an innocent, very cerebral intellectual with limited social and interpersonal skills. Although she appears unapproachable and radiates callousness from behind a wall of reserve, Bebe is actually a loving, giving person.
ince her introduction to pottery by a costar in 1986, Bebe has immersed herself in this craft and continues taking lessons. She thoroughly enjoys pottery because she loves working with the earth to create personal masterpieces. Bebe eats from self made dishes, and around the home unabashedly displays her favorite creations--plates, pitchers, bowls, and vases. Besides this hobby, Bebe remains true to her trade by dancing daily, which has been her ritual since she was a child. In addition, he rarely drinks alcohol, though occasionally has champagne at an opening, anniversary, or birthday party.
As for her philosophy for a happy life, Bebe advocates following your heart** when pursuing individual interests and desires; and to avoid entrenchment in a lifestyle or occupation lacking personal satisfaction†. In other words, live your own life, and not the life of other people. According to Bebe, if you fail to be true to yourself and do not pursue your love, everything will be altered by choosing the wrong path. And she speaks from experience. Bebe does not want other people to sabotage their lives as she has had a tendency to do with her own††.
*I'm pretty sure they're making her a year younger than she actually is... imdb.com says Dec 31, 1958
**Sweet!
† This is bad?
†† Ooo...rebel!
‡ Is this...like, a universal thing that EVERY SINGLE little girl wants to be at some point? I know I did, until I got distracted by squid and decided that I wanted to be a marine biologist...until I got disgusted with all the girly girls who wanted to be marine biologists because they loved dolphins SOOO much and I changed my plans once again, but, that's not the point...
‡‡ Sic. It's supposed to be spelled "Pippin."
* No sh*t, sherlock, she's, you know, a real person.
** Oh good lord...
† Like say, a long running sitcom being filmed in one of the nations most godawful cities? Instead of being in the most ass kicking city, working in one of the most ass kicking professions ever?!
†† That actually explains a lot. Like "The Big Bounce." And "The Paint Job." And "Adventures of Pinocchio"...
Ok, I take back what I said about this being better than the Lilith biography. I just don't like how...maudlin and scripted and preachy and... ok, I just don't like this author.
But uh, go out and buy the book! So I don't get arrested for copyright violation! Yay Dennis A. Bjorklund!
More tomorrow.

YES Pirate Jenny is a song!
By Kurt Weill and Bertold Brecht! Surely you've heard of them?
Ah...you people are going to be the death of me!
Its about...let me see if I can find a good translation of the lyrics...there are a few different translations...
You lads see me wash the glasses, wipe the floors,
Make the beds, I'm the best of servants.
You can kindly throw me pennies and I'll thank you very much.
When you see me ragged and tattered in this dirty sh*t hotel,
You don't know in hell who's talking,
You still don't know in hell who's talking.
Yet one fine day there will be roars from the harbour
And you'll ask, "What is all that screeching for ?"
And you'll see me smiling as I dunk the glasses
And you'll say, "What's she got to smile at for ?"
And the ship, eight sails shining,
Fifty-five cannons wide, Sir,
Waits there at the quay.
You say, "Work on, wipe the glasses, my girl."
And just slip me a dirty six-pence.
And your pennies will be taken, and your beds will be made,
(But I doubt if forty winks will come anybody's way)
And you still don't know in hell who's talking,
You still don't know in hell who's talking.
Still one fine day there'll be a loud bang from the harbour,
And you'll ask, "Jesus Christ, what was that bang ?"
And you'll see me standing right behind the window,
And you'll say, "Why has she got the evil eye ?"
And the ship, eight sails shining,
Fifty-five cannons wide, Sir,
Will be aimed at this town.
So then lads, it's time for tears, no more laughs at the bar,
For the walls will be at your ankles.
And look out, lads, the town will be flat as the ground,
This dirty sh*t hotel will be spared wrack and ruin
And you'll say, "Who is the fancy bitch lives there ?"
You'll say, "Who is the fancy bitch lives there ?"
There'll be rows of people running round the hotel
And you'll ask, "Why should they have spared this hovel ?"
And you'll see me in the morning leaving lightly
And you'll say, "That one, her , she lived there ?"
The same ship, eight sails shining,
Fifty-five cannons wide, Sir,
Flies crossbones and skull.
In the midday sun a hundred men will step ashore
All tramping where shadows crawled.
They'll lay their hands on men, hiding sh*t-scared behind doors
Lead them in chains here before this silent woman,
And they'll say, "Well, which ones shall we kill ?"
They'll say, "Which ones shall we kill ?"
Come the dot of twelve, it will be still in the harbour,
When they ask me, "Well, who is going to die ?"
And you'll hear me whispering, oh, so sweetly, "All of them!"
And as the soft heads fall, I'll say, "Hoopla !"
That same ship, eight sails shining,
Fifty-five cannons wide, Sir,
Disappears with me.
The song is also inspiration for the wonderful (albiet very emotionally draining) movie "Dogville." It has Nicole Kidman, and it's pretty hard to get a hold of in America, I actually bought my copy in Denmark. But it is my favorite movie, though, like I said, it is REALLY depressing, and not something you can just watch and not, you know, think.
And, unfortunately, I am not crafty. At all.
Moondance 09-20-2004, 07:26 PM That was an interesting song... Arr!
I'm not crafty either - just creative.

Education and Career
In 1976 Bebe was accepted to study modern American dance at the prestigious Julliard School in New York City. She immediately hated the school and only lasted one year because there was absolutely no Broadway training. According to Bebe, the Julliard instructors denigrated Broadway as an artistic outlet ad fostered a stifling creative environment. Her parents supported her decision to leave Julliard and recommended that Bebe live in New York and aquire a degree from the school oh hard knocks. After leaving Julliard in 197, Bebe moved into a YWCA and enrolled in singing lessons and jazz classes.
Within a year, at age 18, Bebe landed a chorus spot in an international company production of A Chorus Line (1978-1981) and in 1980 performed the show on Broadway. Other musicals followed: West Side Story (1981), Little Me (1982), Upstairs at O'Neal's (1982-1983) and The Road to Hollywood (1984). Bebe was the principle dancer in Dancin' (1982) and the choreographer and lead dancer in Kicks (1984).
In 1985*, Bebe was in Los Angeles awaiting the commencement of her Tony award-winning role in Sweet Charity. Despite lacking acting experience in a play or stage comedy, she used spare time to audition for the one-time-only role of Dr. Lilith Sternin on "Cheers." Although Bebe never envisioned acting in a television series, she received the art. Irrespective of her reluctance to do television, Bebe resolved that playing Lilith was not much different than acting on the stage--it was just another character.
Dr. Lilith Sternin was first introduced to "Cheers" while on a date with Dr. Fraiser Crane. The entire evening was disastrous, and they parted ways, but not without indulging in outrageously humorous, intellectually acrimonious banter. Bebe's character perfectly compemented Frasier's self indugent pomposity, and the writers so throughly enjoyed writing her lines that Lilith was repeatedly reintroduced into the script. Thus, she returned the following season to debate Frasier on a televised psychology program during which their repressed physical attraction to one another manifested itself in discourse laced with sexual metaphors. In 1987 Bebe joined the populare television series as a recurring regular, playing the obdurate, sensual psychiatrist with the dour, deadpan delivery. In time she and Frasier luxuriated in cohabitation, marriage (with a brief separation after seven years), and parenthood.
Bebe was fond of her character's honesty and sincereity, and could relate to Lilith's innocence and social ignorance. She thought Lilith was incapable of anything malicious, and abhorred people classifying Lilith as a yuppie, because that had nothing to do with her persona. Lilith was a scientist with feelings, and if she appeared cool and hard, it was not intended.
Although Bebe played the robotic-voiced, ghostly compexioned psychiatrist for seven years, she left the cast as a regular at the beginning of the final season (though she returned briedly in 1993 for two guest appearances). A script was written for Lilith to have an affair and depart with her lover to live in an Ecopod. During her reign as the formidable doctor, Bebe earned two Emmy awards for Best Supporting Actress (1990, 1992).
Bebe claims to have left the show because it was time for a change, but emphasizes it was not based on discomfort with any cast members or the desire to entertain film or stage offers. Bebe saw her career as having a natural progression, and it seemed appropriate not to commit to another year on the show. Her lifelong goal has been to be a dancer, and since a dancer's career longevity is limited, Bebe wanted to be onstage and not forego another year's worth of performances.
*An all-around illustrious year.
That's all for tonight.
I lost my lip gloss today.
I feel lost without it.
Seriously, this is giving me serious dependancy issues.
Today was an all-around sh*tty day, and I need my lip gloss for comfort.

Other Acting Endeavors
After leaving “Cheers” Bebe continued working on television. Besides involvement in M & M advertisements, she appeared in the television mini-series “Wild Palms” (1993). In 1994, Bebe revisited her role as Lilith by making guest appearances on the NBC hit sitcom “Frasier” (a “Cheers” spin-off) starring Kelsey Grammer. Lilith was reintroduced in “Frasier” because producers and writers wanted to provide a sense of closure to prove she and Frasier had both gone on with their lives. In the February 3, 1994, episode, Lilith shared a romantic evening with her ex-husband, which became the highest rated “Frasier” episode for the entire season.
The success of this episode prompted the producers to have Lilith return the following season for a two-part episode on November 15 and 22, 1994, in which she inadvertently met Frasier as he shared a romantic weekend on an island paradise with a new girlfriend. Frasier spent the remainder of the vacation trying to prove he was over Lilith and having a fabulous time. Once again, Bebe’s appearance was one of the highest rated “Frasier” episodes of the season, and she earned an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series for her role.
During her time at “Cheers,” Bebe continued acting in feature films, mostly as a supporting actress. She had small roles in Say Anything (1989), Penny Ante (1990) and Pacific Heights (1990). In Green Card (1990), starring Andie MacDowell and Gerard Depardieu, Bebe has a larger role as an artsy, lusty friend, in a movie about a mutually fraudulent marriage arrangement designed to obtain a Manhattan apartment that only accepted married couples and to help a Frenchman become a United States citizen. Bebe received favourable reviews, and the movie was a critical and financial success.
The following year Bebe landed the roll of the well-heeled Countess di Frasso, who has an affair with mobster Benjamin “Bugsy” Siegal (Warren Beatty) in Bugsy (1991). This film documents the life of the notorious mobster whose desert casino* put Las Vegas on the map. Bebe performed admirably, and the movie received critical acclaim and numerous nominations and awards.
In Malice (1993), a mystery-thriller of murder, lust, and greed starring Alec Baldwin and Nicole Kidman, Bebe was praised for offering an excellent supporting role. The movie was moderately successful at the box office, and received mostly positive reviews. The same year, Bebe earned her only lead role to date in The Paint Job (1993), a black comedy and odd psychological thriller about an uninspired wife inexplicably attracted to a neighbour. The movie was a financial failure and received mix reviews.**
Bebe also appeared in Jumanji (1995). In this film, starring Robin Williams, a young boy is engulfed within an ancient, magical jungle board game, and when he returns to reality 26 years later, the jungle follows him. The following year she appeared in two feature films, The Adventures of Pinocchio (1996) and The Associate (19996).
Despite appearances in several films, Bebe has concentrated primarily on the stage. In 1986, she won a Tony award for best Supporting Actress in a Musical for portraying a tough-tootsie dancer in the revival of Sweet Charity. Bebe subsequently appeared in Showing Off (1989) and Chicago (1992). When her “Cheers” role ended, Bebe assumed Chita Rivera’s role in the London West End production of Kiss of the Spider Woman (1993).
In March 1994 Bebe starred in the Broadway production Damn Yankees. It was the first Broadway revival of the 1955 musical about a middle-aged real estate man who sells his soul to the devil to regain his youth as a baseball hero for the Washington Senators†. The reborn hero wants to return to his wife, so the devil sends chief seductress Lola (Neuwirth) to lead him astray. Although much leaner and sultrier than Gwen Verdon in the 1955 version, Bebe sported a short and sassy platinum-blonde wig, making her the physical opposite of her popular characterization of Lilith. She received mostly favorable reviews, despite giving a performance decidedly inferior to the original.
In her latest Broadway production, Pal Joey (1995), Bebe has a supporting role as Melba Snyder, and not only sang, but also did a modified striptease. Reviews were praiseworthy for this revival of the 1940 version.
Relationships—Romantic
Bebe was married for seven (mostly unhappy) years to occasional theater director Paul Dorman. They met in New York City in 1982. Dorman was a bartender at O’Neal’s restaurant, and Bebe was there performing in a cabaret revue. In 1984, they married in Bebe’s hometown, and after seven years the relationship ended in divorce.
Bebe’s latest paramour, an actor and writer, qualified for a tryout as an Olympic pole-vaulter. He has taught skiing, studies martial arts, and is an Eagle Scout, Order of the Arrow††. They met during A Chorus Line (1978) and remained friendly acquaintances for about 13 years before he asked her for a date (the first time she had ever been asked out on a date‡). The two are now taking their relationship slowly and enjoying each other’s company, with no immediate plans for marriage or children.
Future
Since she never felt comfortable in Los Angeles, Bebe has permanently relocated to New York City with her cat, Frankie (named after Frank Lloyd Wright). Bebe is delighted with her achievements onstage and in films, and will continue to emphasize this aspect of her career. In addition, she has left the door open to reappear in subsequent “Frasier” episodes to reprise her Lilith role. Bebe’s ultimate goal is to do quality work with quality people, regardless of whether it is a production on Broadway or in a small theatre.
*That would be The Flamingo, by the way, and as it so happens, one of my major cross streets is Flamingo Blvd. The casino is seriously, just two miles down the street.
** I happen to own this movie, and…no comment. I’ll just quote something Tori Amos said when asked about a really stupid song she wrote when she was 14, I think it applies in this case, too…”For all the musicians out there, if you think you've done something f*cking horrible, disgusting, that you never want heard…believe me, it will get heard." Not saying The Paint Job is disgusting, but…well, I know I blush whenever the name is mentioned…and I wasn’t even in it!
† You know, I don’t know why this just occurred to me, seeing as how I’ve been familiar with this musical for years and years and years…but that is a really, REALLY stupid premise for a story.
†† What? Is that like…a boy scout or something?
‡ Aww…all of a sudden, I feel a little less of a loser. This just proves that boys have no taste, if it takes THIS long.
And that’s all. Well, minus a list of her acting credits. But I’m not typing that out.
Pirate Jenny 09-24-2004, 05:47 AM Now, my say on this smoking thing...
first off:

1. And what, are we just blindly taking periacta at her word? Just because she's the president, and a wise one (albeit without wisdom teeth), doesn't mean that you have to take everything she says at face value. How do you know she's not just making things up simply to further her causes? Hey. It's been known to happen...
I think you should ask the Village Elder, when it comes to these issues.
2. But yeah, I do think she does.
3. As for the opinions about smoking, lets keep some things in mind.
a. it's an addiction, and not always a welcome one.
b. let's look at this sociologically. As we all know, the act of self destruction can be very empowering in its own way, and cigarette smoking happens to be one of the only ways that one can manifest this behaviour in a legal and socially acceptable way. I'm not saying that it's GOOD to do such a thing, I'm just saying that it's just along the same lines as, say an eating disorder, or self mutilation, so let's keep that in mind.
c. you're right though, it can be gross to be around people who are smoking. Fortunately, there's a pretty good chance that Bebe will never smoke around you.
Now, I don't want to sound all "Yay smoking!" or all "you can't be mad at someone for smoking," because that's not what I'm getting at. My grandmother died due to lung cancer caused by a lifetime of smoking...but I have also fallen into this trap more than once. Yes, it's a disgusting habit, but let's try to understand it, before we judge it.
and now, my offering...
Chambers 09-24-2004, 10:09 AM Well I'm not actually judging the person - I'm judging the habit. I just don't like it when people smoke in my presence - especially without asking first.
ThirteenInchEscape 09-24-2004, 11:53 AM When you are in a conversation with someone they tend to ask before lighting a cigarette, but it still doesnt bother me either way.
I mean, I guess I would prefer a girl who didnt smoke, but it certainly isnt anywhere near the top of a list of things I care about

I like Without a Trace a lot more than CSI.... mainly because, well, Simon Moon.

Though, the actor, Anthony LaPaglia, is amazing at his craft!

Although, Trial By Jury won't premiere until mid-season.

Oh man, I was so excited when barwars said that, that I ran downstairs to tell my mum...
Unfortunately, I'm still very weak from the meds, so I sorta only ran down the first few stairs, and gravity pulled me down the last half...on my ass.
Mom was like "Oh my god, are you ok?!" and I was like "BEBE'S GONNA BE ON LAW AND ORDER!!!!!"
and she was like...
"Oh."

ThirteenInchEscape 09-24-2004, 05:42 PM Fortunately, Jerry Orbach, in his great role of Lenny Briscoe will be on the show, and he is famous for his wisecracks, but they dont normally joke about TV shows
Though there was an episode where Briscoe said, "It is that damn show The Sopranos, makes them all think they can get away with it"
Most of the jokes are just kind of dry humor relating to the crime, which may seem kind of innappropriate, but you know, when you are out there day after day you must stay a bitch detached.
edit: BTW, Barwars, do you have a source, I cant find one anywhere?

you're a bright one, aren't you?
Dulcineah1 09-24-2004, 07:30 PM I'm a little late on this one, but I've been at class and arguing with financial aid to get my money (got it, FINALLY, after three weeks).
First of all, YAY for Bebe being on Law and Order!! While she is amazing on stage and there's nothing like seeing her perform live, it requires a large effort on my part in order to get to see her even once, whereas when she's a regular on a TV series I'll get to see her every week just by turning on my TV.
As for the smoking question, yeah, I'm pretty positive that she smokes. She's smoked in a lot of roles she's had, The Associate, Celebrity, Tadpole, Getting To Know You, and she smoked in Chicago and Everett Beekin, and I'm sure I'm leaving out several more. I'm not too surprised--apparently a lot of dancers smoke because it keeps their weight down. But whether she smokes or not, she's still kicka$$ because, well, she's Bebe.

Could've been Lilith.
Brian Damage 09-25-2004, 12:02 PM I would've much preferred a Frasier spinoff entitled "Lilith." That would've been fantastic.

Yes.

barwars, can you change the first post in in this thread? We wouldn't want someone thinking that this "periacta" chick who never shows up anymore has more power than ME!
I think we are all saddened at the missed brilliance and hilarity of a "Lilith" show...
So we make do with what we can.
My mouth hurts. so much.
My mom (Who is keeping tight control over my pain meds) gave me the wrong pills last night, instead of my Lortab, she gave me a super-big perscription strength ibuprofen, which looks remarkably like my Lortab--and two over the counter advil.
Yes, can you say major overdose of Ibuprofen (I think it was 1000 mg all together)...plus no pain relief or happy feeling?
Not good.

Sorry barwars.
I'm liking my new screen name, too. I need to get a pirate hat and wear it at a rakish angle. And fishnets...well, I already have those, but I'm not wearing them. Nor do I have any intention of putting them on.

Can we have a favorite sitcom characters convention??
Wouldn't that be cool? Over at the general sitcoms board or something. We could assign days for each sitcom board that wants to participate and give lectures about the characters or just Lilith. And everybody is going to have to wear suits with pirate hats.

Goddamn, I like that idea. Especially the dresscode.
But would that involve...talking to other people on the General Sitcoms board?
People...I don't know?
Oh, and by the way, this has to be said.
Dulcey is the best Head Storyteller this club has ever had.
Last night, when I was in a crappy mood, she stayed up with me and told me all sorts of cool Bebe related stories. Although some of them did keep me awake the rest of the night, with a dresser pushed in front of my door...because obsessive stalker people make me lose faith in the entire human race...
Still and all...well, have you ever seen that common sculpture made by (i believe) the Jemez Pueblo tribe here in the southwest, of a storyteller, with like a kajillion kids crawling all over him/her?
That's what Dulcey reminds me of.
We need to make a big rug so we can all sit in a circle around her. Cause I don't think we'd ALL fit in her lap.
ThirteenInchEscape 09-26-2004, 11:59 AM dont tell Chambers, they may scare her, stalkers arent something she takes lightly

Moondance 09-29-2004, 06:16 PM So this morning I taped Bebe Neuwirth on "Isaac Mizrahi Show" and wrote out the entire 7 minutes interaction! It took me 3 hours to complete - I don't have time to type it out today (my hand hurts, BTW - I think I sprained my THUMB)
HIGHLIGHTS on BEBE NEUWIRTH
She's a Capricorn.
She doesn't like to shop.
She loves Japanese esthetic.
She's Jewish (I'm only saying this cause Isaac was shocked!)
Shoes Bebe Wears on a regular basis: Sneakers and Cowboy boots
Bebe quote about boots:
"When you see me in cowboy boots at a screening and I'm all dolled up and I've got my cowboy boots on, that's so I don't get migranes."
Bebe's not used to 3 inch heels.
She hates pedicures.
Quote about her feet:
"Well, they're pretty unattractive if you get up close."
Bebe can't turn out her feet.
Quote:
"That's why I'm not a ballet dancer, because I didn't have a very good turn out."
Bebe's favorite work:
"Sweet Charity was a very big deal."
Lilith Exposed:
Isaac: Like, I'm sorry to say this but, like, Lilith is the funniest thing in the world.
Bebe: Yeah, she's funny. (mind you, Bebe is NOT smiling)
Isaac: She's a scream.
Bebe: Yeah, she's funny.
Isaac: Why don't you love doing that?
Bebe: I just was not comfortable working in a situation comedy medium. I felt like I was a fish out of water or a plant in the wrong soil, you know, I just - (Bebe tries to change the subject] These are cool. (about the shoes)
Isaac: A) You were heaven, right? You were heaven on that show, and B) It's like, you never have to work again or something.
Bebe: Uh, no. That's not true.
Isaac: No?
Bebe: These were the days before Friends.
And lastly, Isaac Mizrahi said this when Bebe left:
"It was a good day, right? Well, you know, Bebe Neuwirth, how could you go wrong, right?"
**I'll type out the full transcript when I have more time**
Chambers 09-29-2004, 06:53 PM Cool!!
And isn't that guy a fashion designer or something?
Pirate Jenny 09-29-2004, 07:43 PM *squeaks*
I'm eagerly awaiting the transcript, Feen...
Man that just reminds me of what a sh*tty ballet dancer I was. I got turned off of dance for YEARS because I had a completely EVIL ballet teacher, who, along with making fun of my turn-out, was really, really good in encouraging anorexia in teenage girls...yay. Thank you, Mrs. Putti. My 13-year-old cousin is going en pointe this summer, and I am SOOOO bitter.
(I get migraines, too. heh)
On another note, I just took my first graduate level exam today...
That I didn't know about till about 1 this afternoon...

You're taking a graduate course? Which one?
Mrs. Putti...is she the product of generations of whores? Hehe, her name just struck me as funny.
I did some ballet in 11th grade instead of doing PE in school - the teacher said I had ideal feet and legs for it - but, alas, I never stuck with it when I was little. After one semester of that, I decided PE required a lot less effort.

Yes, her name was funny. I was thinking, though, as I was walking through campus...I never told you the end of the story...
A year after I left, she got fired. I don't know why, I'd like to think that either the faculty noticed the inordinate number of dance majors passing out in classes for lack of food, or maybe the toilets in the dance department backed up from all the vomit...and they got a clue. Anyway, that was satisfying enough in itself...but not satisfying enough, because she had a second job...she was a dancer for the Sigfried and Roy show...and after Roy was gnawed on by that tiger, the show was disbanded, and all the performers were layed off.
He. He. He.
as for the graduate course, Chambers, it's my Sociology of Drug Use and Abuse. It's SOC 681, I think...but they let me take it anyway, they said they'll just count it as an undergrad credit for me.

Yeah, shopping blows so much. ****in hate it. (Unless I'm in a bookstore.)
Jews are cool.
Uh...Bebe? They have medication for migraines, you know. I'm on it. Periactin. Works well. But hey...maybe boots do too.
And that Japan thing? Ew.
I'm still boycotting that entire country for that anime thing.
Except for the kimono my aunt bought me in Kyoto. I like that. Mostly cause I still resent having to wear clothes in public, and I avoid it at all costs when at home. So the kimono works well for that. It apparently had the characters for "happiness" all over it. There's a huge ****ing clue. She gave me that, and a whole bunch of Geisha stuff...hm...
Chambers 09-30-2004, 01:36 AM haha i'm sure she's not talking about Japanese popular culture - because yeah ew. But I'm also a big fan of the Japanese aesthetic - their architecture, their art, all their good ancient stuff. Even if they did rip off the Chinese, they made it all look nicer.

Chambers 10-01-2004, 01:12 PM I'm sitting here reading about Artemisia's Judith paintings, and I realized two things:
There seem to be a lot of Jewish women who serve as icons of female liberation. Who do we Catholics have? I can't think of anybody - except maybe crazy old Joan of Arc. Oh, but she wasn't biblical.
And the other thing I realized is that art history scholars sure are interested in artists' sexual perversions.

Well we (the Jews) do have a bit of a precedent set. ;)
Correction: Crazy young Jeanne D'Arc.
Anyway, this is how I see it.
As I'm sure you've noticed, the Catholic God (God of the New Testament) is vastly different from the God of the Jews. We may be the Chosen People, but He certainly doesn't give us any slack. OT God, while identified as "just" (That's up to the individual on how just He actually was, but we won't go into it here), was vengeful and angry, he let no transgression go un-noticed. NT God, on the other hand, is loving, understanding, and forgiving. He is easier for humans to relate to, literally, more human.
An angry, inaccessible, threatening, eye-for-an-eye God tends to breed contempt, and, ultimately revolt, and while woman's lib isn't exactly against men, there may be either an association of men with a greater opressor (I mean, come on, it's pretty obvious who the Big G's favorite gender is), or just a tendency of "hell, if we're questioning this, why not some of the other injustices in our life?"
One interesting thing is, as far as I've observed, this phenomenon tends to be limited to jewish women. Jewish men tend to take God at His word (perhaps because His word is to their advantage).
Anyway, that's my take on it.
As for artist's sexual perversions...Dali is the king of them ALL.
Chambers 10-01-2004, 05:04 PM That makes a lot of sense - the part about the men.
The often rebellious behavior of Jewish women can be seen as a reaction to the strictly patriarchal religious institution to which they belonged. The OT has always undermined female heroes, so naturally women like Judith and Lilith are hardly mentioned. The historic treatment of the myths of Judith and Lilith (it's very likely that the story of Judith was a myth created under the influence of Hellenic culture) has paralleled the treatment of women in general. In Christian Europe, Judith's cunning plan to behead Holofernes was interpreted as an action ordained by God, likening her to crazy young Jeanne d'Arc (correction: miniscule d :p). Basically, God told these women what to do - they weren't thinking for themselves. It was a while before Judith's actions were seen in connection to her personal strength and intelligence.

That makes a lot of sense - the part about the men.
Another good point.
In the beginning (taking for example the Lilith myth, as I am wont to do), God didn't seem to know what he was doing. He ****ed up quite a few times. The fact that Adam went through two mates before settling on Eve attests to this. By the NT, God seemed to have a better grasp on what he was doing, and it was much easier to use the "part of God's plan" excuse, to explain the strength of certain women.

True. Same goes for biblical virgins (especially the impregnanted ones or erm one). They're absolutely passive. They're vehicles for his divine will rather than thinking beings.
Moondance 10-01-2004, 05:15 PM I just posted my Frasier story - involving Lilith!
