Pirate Jenny 08-28-2004, 04:37 PM Ah you guys are great.
I wish I could join you, but I spent all of last night in 3 parts
1. Watching Dogville. (good, albeit very disturbing movie, the middle is hard to watch, but the end makes up for it so much!)
2. Going to Wallgreens at 1am and stocking up on all sorts of junk food like we were either pregnant or stoners with the munchies. Actually, we were just hungry.
and after my friends left
3. Staying up the rest of the night watching the tapes of Lilith episodes that Dulcey sent me.
So, now I shall sleep.
Man, with school starting in, um...SH*T! 2 days! I better reset my circadian rhythm to a more diurnal schedule.
But now, sweet slumber calls me.

It's not night. Hence the reason for my stating that I needed to reset my circadian rhythm. Had it been night, I would have been on a nocturnal, and not diurnal schedule, making my previous statement obsolete.
Pirate Jenny 08-28-2004, 04:44 PM Oh dear god.
I...
Yeah, I need rest.
barwars 08-28-2004, 04:45 PM I just figured that I calculated the time difference wrong.
Anways, happy resting Lilith!

I always say that to people who are going to sleep, regardless of the time of day. Much faster to type than "happy resting" - but, damn, I've typed it out now. Payback, barwars.
Brian Damage 08-28-2004, 04:52 PM I missed the invasion of the That's so Raven board. Dang!!! Why did everybody retreat?

About the TSR retreat.... we only leave when we like the people that tell us to leave.
If I dont like 'em.... we stay.
I dont like TSR at all, but Superstar is cool by me.

See, this is what happens when I say I'm going to sleep but stay lurking on the boards reading messages through a daze of insomnia (in the most literal sense of the word...check the latin roots).
Now, I really am going to sleep.
Or am I?
Yes, actually.
Pirate Jenny 08-28-2004, 08:09 PM And I'm back.
Discussion Topic!
Ok so this isn't really about Lilith, but this is something that bothers me.
So, last night, I watched just about every bit of celluloid (is it even celluloid on TV? Whatever) that Cheers ever produced revolving around Frasier and Lilith (still lovin' Dulcey), and something struck me as odd.
Ok, I noticed that in three different episodes, Frasier explained a desire to express physical violence toward Lilith. Now, obviously, these were just idle sayings, but it kind of bothers me. I mean, I'm against TV censorship, or...censorship of any sort, but it just seems to me that it would be best not to use domestic violence as comic fodder. That such a comment isn't exactly in place when put into a sitcom to elicit laughs.
It just seems very uncouth and downright...well...wrong. Especially coming from the usually intelligent and usually careful creators of Cheers.
What do you think?
Chambers 08-28-2004, 09:06 PM If I've learned anything from Cheers it's that violence is funny.
Exhibit A:
Carla jumps on Big Ed and bangs his head on the bar. He deserved it, so it was funny. But, um, this has nothing to do with your question.
Exhibit B:
Sam slaps Diane (not funny). Diane slaps him back harder (borderline funny). They slap each other back and forth really quickly (hilarious). It's funny when they're both fighting on the same level. It's not abusive if they're each other's equal.
Exhibit C:
Sam and Diane have each other by the noses - neither one will let go: HILARIOUS.
The case of Frasier and Lilith:
As you said, they were just idle sayings. Frasier's comments would be wrong if he weren't intimidated by Lilith. Everybody knows she's the boss. It's no worse than what Norm says about his wife. (And that is a whole other discussion, ladies and gentlemen.)
So really...I'm undecided.
I haven't seen the episodes in which he says those things in a while. Could you maybe post some of his lines?
Pirate Jenny 08-28-2004, 09:23 PM Originally posted by Chambers

ThirteenInchEscape 08-28-2004, 10:15 PM there is the episode where he says "that's right, I would quite like to strike you"
there were alot of jokes about Sam killing Diane though, like when he said "I just imagined myself getting the electric chair for killing you" and that whole dialogue

And those threats were funny, because she also tried to kill him a couple of times - like in the last episode of season 2 (strangulation by telephone wire). So my theory is, if they're both trying to kill each other, then there's no reason to worry. It's like Tom&Jerry - as much as people try to criticize that cartoon, people still love it.

"Chambers vs. Malone", one of the best of the series. Certainly the best that involved Sam and Diane's engagement.
Pirate Jenny 08-28-2004, 10:56 PM All right...I haven't watched the episodes yet...but I've come to this conclusion.
Violence in general:
F*cking hilarious.
Violence against Lilith:
Never funny.
ThirteenInchEscape 08-29-2004, 12:14 AM one of the best Frasier and Lilith moments has got to be when she gets the terrible perm and Rebecca tells Frasier to put rat traps on his hands so he doesnt laugh at her

I suppose we could, but the problem with that is that we'd have to go somewhere else to do that, and that involves typing a new address in the address bar, or else taking the mouse over to the Favorites menu...and honestly, I don't think I'm up to that kind of drudgery. But lets open it up as a vote...

Heh, I just noticed though, she wears like, huge amounts of eyeshadow in that one...and never does again.
Kind of looks like Bebe forgot to wipe off the make-up after playing Nickie in "Sweet Charity."

Dulcineah1 09-03-2004, 11:43 PM Wow, wisdom.
Let's see...
I've seen Lilith swear. Seriously. Well, it was Bebe swearing when she flubbed a line while playing Lilith, but still, it was really funny.
In terms of wisdom, um, I know that Bebe has two cats named Violet and Bobby and she carries pictures around with her, that she doesn't like to haggle for antique chairs, that her senior quote was from "Pippin", and when she goes to Joe Allen's after shows she orders a baked potato and a scoop of vanilla ice cream with Toll House cookies.
Is that enough?

Other than maybe...enchiladas
or mongolian chicken.
She carries pictures...of what? (obviously you know)
I have a whole notebook of different pictures that I take with me wherever I go. Of pretty people. Ok, not 100% pretty people, because I'm narcissitic enough to have lots of pictures of myself in it, but...you know, the other people.
I actually accidentally left it on a plane in Heathrow once, and had to rush back on to get it, in case someone found it, and then I'd feel weird and embarrassed, cause like,

You should cut out pictures of people in magazines and put them in the wallet picture thing. Better yet, get pics of people like Bin Laden or Bush to put in it!!

That is so cool.
Can you tell us more about those?
ThirteenInchEscape 09-04-2004, 10:59 AM yeah, what exactly are tapings like? I always thought that TVShows had a bunch of preexisting sets, it was actually a while before I realized so many shows had a studio audience. Do they just change the sets, or is there just a huge stage so you can see all of them or what?
See, that is something I would do if I was in LA
arent the tickets free? I would go every damn week if possible :P
Brian Damage 09-04-2004, 11:21 AM When I was in LA, I went to a taping of The Norm Show starring Norm Macdonald. I even was given an autographed script of that particular show as a reward for laughing the loudest. Tapings are very long, like 3 or 4 hours. There is a comedian that warms up the crowd before the taping and is the MC for the night. They don't change sets. It is just a huge studio with various sets attached to one another.
Dulcineah1 09-04-2004, 01:45 PM The tickets are free, yeah. At least, they were for "Frasier". When I went, you had to call Paramount a week before the show and have them put your name on a list for reservations, and then call again the day of the show to confirm that you were coming. After that, it was first come first served (after the VIPs, of course) so you had to get to the studio early and wait in line until they started letting people in. I always wanted to get there first to make sure I got in, so I'd get there about five hours in advance. It was a lot of waiting, but I was with friends so we always had a good time with that.
They didn't change sets, like Brian Damage said, there was just one big stage with all the sets they were using for the show that week. During the filming for The Great Crane Robbery they did have to change Frasier's apartment, so they put up dividers and the warm-up guy came out while we waited. There was a band that played, and Dave Willis (warm-up guy) would talk to the audience before the show started, and get the band to play songs from wherever you were from.
Kelsey would come out and talk to the audience right before the filming started. His mother was always in the audience, at least, she was at every filming I was at. Depending on the episode that was being taped there would be other VIPs as well. Camille and Spencer were at the filming of Don Juan in Hell, and Jane's sister was there for Room Full of Heroes.
During the filming, they would shoot every scene twice, sometimes changing certain lines. Kelsey was usually chewing gum inbetween takes, and once I saw him spit it into the urn that was on the bookcase behind Martin's chair right before starting another take. He usually goofed up his lines the most, and he'd start swearing if he did it often enough. One time, he didn't like the grammatical structure of one of his lines and insisted on changing it--it was something about an outside event being cancelled due to weather, and Kelsey changed it to bad weather. When my friend and I talked to him after the filming, she told him that he was right about that line, and he said "Well, when your last name is Grammer, people expect you to know these things."
After the show the cast comes out to take their bows and then the ushers start moving the audience out. If you're lucky, you might get to see the tag scene filmed, but about half the time you were out of luck.
Don Juan in Hell was probably my favorite filming, because of the guest stars. Shelley Long seemed really nervous, and I felt bad for her. She didn't seem used to working in front of a live audience at all, and during the filming when Diane is painting a picture of Sam instead of listening to Frasier, the audience started laughing really hard and she got flustered and had to stop. She said something like "They wouldn't stop laughing!", and then turned to the audience and told us "I mean, it's good that you're laughing, I just wasn't expecting it." Kelsey went over and talked to her and she seemed a little more at ease after that.
Oh, and Bebe kept flubbing one of her lines during the second take, and she got really frustrated and yelled a four letter word beginning with f, and immediately looked stunned, like "Did I really say that?" The audience all cracked up, because it is really, really funny to hear Lilith Sternin say the f-word. She and Kelsey were laughing together between takes, and it was obvious that they're really good friends.
Overall, it was always a great experience to see a filming, and I feel really lucky that I was able to go. God, what a great show it was.

I wish so bad that I couldve gone to a taping.
I told my parents that if they could bring to LA for a taping of Frasier for my birthday, I would never expect any gifts from them again.
But, no such luck.

The only one I know of is "Hope & Faith", but, Id rather watch a good show on TV than a taping of that.
Both The Cosby Show and Cosby were filmed in New York, but whats odd is that TCS never used being in NY to its advantage.
Letterman is also from NY.
Late night shows in LA blow, currently.

The only blue pills I can think of are Zoloft and Viagra.
And I know Zoloft doesn't work on me
...and I'm pretty sure Viagra doesn't either.

This drug may or may not have an effect on your signature. But it will heighten your admiration for Lilith.

your muscles will get really mushy, you get irritable, insomnia, and muscle twitches (especially of your eyelids)

Pirate Jenny 09-05-2004, 09:48 PM hey guys...I have an IDEA!
What if we all had, like GLISFC homework?
Like we'd all watch the same episode with Lilith, and then discuss it.
Homework's too harsh a word, of course, not like you're gonna get detention for not doing it. I figure that 1/2 an hour that you spent not watching Lilith is punishment enough.

Alright, we'll put that plan on hold.
My living situation? My parent's house.
How sad is that?
But I do have free reign of the upstairs, as they're too old and feeble/lazy to ever come up here.
But I do need to move out. I goddamn hate it here. My relationship with my mother, as you guys may have gathered, is less than ideal, plus...I have to follow their rules. I'm in college! I don't follow rules! College! No Rules, Goddammit!

No I understand that. That's not pathetic.
I sort of felt that when I was studying in England this summer.
I'd like to be as far away from them as I can...as long as it's the same country.
Then I cry a lot, and THAT'S really pathetic.
ThirteenInchEscape 09-05-2004, 10:35 PM my mom owns some real estate around here (she is a real estate agent, but the own some retanls, and manage some for other people), Anyway, she hasbeen wanting to get into the Pullman housing apartment, so next year she is buying me a duplex or something of that nature (right now it looks like a house with one bedroom ground floor and one bedroom basement, where the basement has its own exit and a kitchenette, I will get upstairs)
It will be niiiiiiiccccccceeeeee, I get to avoid the dorm life, since my mom will live close enough so I can just say I live at home
Dulcineah1 09-05-2004, 11:00 PM Wow, I was lucky when I was in college. I went to school in a city about five hours away from where my family lived, so I was still close enough to come home on weekends and whatnot, but it was far enough out of the way that my parents didn't just "swing by" all the time.
Of course now I'm really out on my own, three days worth of driving from my dad and, um, well, really far away from my mom (Chicago to Kona is a long, long way). But I've still got relatives in the area, and it's nice to know that they're there if I need them. I'm not brave enough to live completely on my own yet, but I'm hoping to move to Boston in three years time, so maybe then.
ThirteenInchEscape 09-05-2004, 11:28 PM well my mom will own the house, but I doubt if she will stop by to visit especially often
my moms office is is probably 15 or 20 blocks and my dads lab is probably closer to 10, so yeah, I guess I will be close to them at all times, but I dont think they will stop by to say hi
Dulcineah1 09-06-2004, 01:42 AM Yeah, most parents give you some space when you move out. It's nice, though, that they'll be close by and you can see them whenever you want.
I don't know if this has been hashed to death, since I'm fairly new here, but I was wondering what everyone's favorite Lilith moment was? Mine is probably the scene in "How to Win Friends and Electrocute People" where Sam is giving Lilith driving lessons and they come into the bar arguing about what a bad driver she is.
ThirteenInchEscape 09-06-2004, 03:21 AM The first episode with Lilith is on Wednesday btw

Bumping this thead up.
MY favorite Lilith moment is...well, ok, in that one episode, with...ok, I need to do more research.
But I have it. I like it cause it reminds me of me.
I'll be back, in the meantime:
cellar door.
Pirate Jenny 09-07-2004, 01:23 AM Ok, I believe it was in "Days of Wine and Neuroses," and it is when Rebecca is toasting everyone and fails to toast Lilith. I'll get the lines verbatim, but Lilith's reaction is so me.
Chambers 09-07-2004, 09:31 AM I'll have to do some research too...
Pirate Jenny 09-08-2004, 12:20 AM We need to be at the top again!

OOOOOR, how about we all take a club nap?
I like that idea.
Chambers 09-08-2004, 12:22 AM Yay! Club nap!
ThirteenInchEscape 09-08-2004, 12:30 AM episode 99, Abnormal Pyscology is the first with Lilith, right?
It's on at 12:30, I quite hope I dont get tired
Dulcineah1 09-08-2004, 02:09 AM Abnormal Psychology is actually the second episode with Lilith. She's in Second Time Around (I think that's the episode title) back in the fourth season for the first ten minutes or so. She and Frasier come into the bar for drinks and they insult each other, and then Lilith gets paged and has to leave on an emergency.
I heard somewhere that the writers were planning on making Jennifer Tilly (Candi) Frasier's love interest, but decided to bring back Lilith instead. Candi was funny for one episode, but I shudder to think of Cheers without Lilith.
ThirteenInchEscape 09-08-2004, 02:22 AM You're right, that is the second episode with Lilith
in the first episode she's in is it the one where Frasier says
"You're right, I would quite like to strike you"
Pirate Jenny 09-08-2004, 02:39 AM Dulcey, where are you now?
I need to bitch to you!
Or...someone.
I f*cking hate peer editing for a Creative Writing class.
8 out of 10 college aged students can't write. They just can't.
And I'm not allowed to write "this is total crap, go back to high school" on their paper.
Also, doing this peer editing crap totally cut into my club naptime. Cut into it meaning totally obliterated it. None. Zip. Rien.
Arrrrrgggggggg.
Brian Damage 09-08-2004, 10:03 AM This thread is dying a slow death. ;)
ThirteenInchEscape 09-08-2004, 10:21 AM I think I should be changed to the club philosopher/theoretician
Check out this no quote straight from me
The only difference between a nihilist and a stoic is that a stoic waits for society to fall, while a nihilist tries to bring it about.
that's clever, and it enforces The Human Wave Theory

**********
Frasier became a more and more central character in no small part because of Frasier's marriage to equally debonaire and tasteful Lilith, played by Bebe Neuwirth. Their on screen relationship tranfused new blood into the long-running series - although their off screen compatibility reportedly deteriorated over the years and may have played a part in Neuwirth's decision to leave the show.
But in early 1991 things were smooth, on camera and off, with Grammer and Neuwirth engaging in flirtacious banter during interviews, playing up the sexual chemistry between Frasier and Lilith.
"The best thing about Lilith is her ass," Kelsey said while looking pointedly at Bebe.
"No, no - not about me," Neuwirth protested.
"But it's all in the same package!"
"They have a good marriage," Kelsey observed about their TV alter egos. "After all, Frasier is hot for Lilith. And he's a romantic sort of chap. For Valentine's Day, he would take Lilith on a trip to the islands...with a suitcase full of sex toys."
"Right," laughed Neuwirth. "He'd bring his huge trunk and tell people all he had was his toothbrush. Actually, if I have any complaints about some of the scripts, it's that we haven't been able to manifest that heat."
"Yeah," Grammer said. "Frasier and Lilith have sex all the time."

Chambers 09-08-2004, 06:54 PM WELCOME BACK, MOONDANCE!!!! :D
As for Bebe and Kelsey - I can see them not getting along professionaly. She as a theater actor - used to rehersals and being on time and stuff. Kelsey was a slacker.

Dulcineah1 09-08-2004, 10:25 PM I read an interview awhile back where Bebe was talking about her experiences on Cheers, and how she and Roger Rees would always be on time for rehearsals because they came from the theatre, but everyone else was always late. I can see how she would get annoyed by that after awhile, but I don't think the author of that book was totally accurate in that she left the show because of Kelsey.
I think they're good friends now. They seemed really friendly at the filming of DJIH II, and Bebe's said in interviews that she loves working with Kelsey. Of course, maybe it's easier for them to be friends now that they're not working together on a constant basis. And that Kelsey's stopped drinking and settled down.
ThirteenInchEscape 09-08-2004, 11:04 PM Kelsey said he didnt like to practice his lines too much because he thought that Frasier really deliberated over what he said, and that it was a good effect for him to have to geniunely think of what the line was.
Also, can I be changed to the Club Philospher

About Bebe and Roger being the only ones on time, Ive both read that and heard that in several different interviews. Maybe that's why Bebe and Roger teamed up so often on Broadway.

I got excited during the auction, too! Bebe was so cute in that movie! I watched the whole thing, thinking that she'd be in it more, but...the parts she was in, rocked! I'd be like, "There's Bebe!" My brother would be like, "Lilith." Haha!

Um...give me a minute to think.
Pirate Jenny 09-09-2004, 03:06 PM I'd have to say Bebe. Here are my reasons.
5. She's, um, you know, real.
4. Lilith is too much like who I am. Bebe's like who I wish I was.
3. No matter how well the writers fleshed out Lilith, she'd still not be a complete human, with all the flaws and little quirks that humans have...all the contradictions...she's still sort of two-dimensional.
2. People who live in New York City always take priority.
and the number one reason:
1. Here Lies Jenny.

I'm what you'd call "hollow saint." That's a Brazilian/Portuguese expression that dates back to colonial times, when colonialists used to smuggle gold inside these wooden saints they hollowed out. Ya know, seemingly good on the outside, corrupt on the inside.

Yeah, but gold's not very corrupt. Now, if one were to smuggle, like, cocaine on one of those babies, that's corrupt. And a lot less gross than the people who swallow condoms of the stuff to get it into the country.

Life is a sitcom, but most people make it out to be a soap opera. Reality sucks. Here's my reasons:
1. People are funnier in sitcoms. Even if the character is annoying as hell to other characters in the show, he/she is funny to the viewers.
2. Dreams in real life are a more boring than dream sequences in sitcoms.
3. In real life there's no punch lines!! grr
Thats why I wanna live in a sitcom!

ThirteenInchEscape 09-10-2004, 06:21 PM I'm still convinced we should be the type of club that sits around talking about how much better we are than everyone else instead of "attacking"
Chambers 09-10-2004, 08:06 PM Well, I guess there's not that much to say. I already know I'm better than all of you, not to mention everybody outside this club. :p

And a parade in my honour.
Pirate Jenny 09-10-2004, 08:58 PM everyone, I want you to meet the newest charter member of the GLISFC. His name is Apollo (aka "Spooky.") So far, he won't be a very productive member, as he can only say "who's a pretty bird?" and wolf whistle.
But he does love Lilith, as well as apples, sunflower seeds, and paper.
Chambers 09-10-2004, 09:28 PM Hi, Apollo. If he gets to be part of the group, so does Sigmund.
Hey, I'm watching Toy Story 2 and just realized Kelsey Grammer also does one of the voices.
ThirteenInchEscape 09-10-2004, 09:37 PM I didnt tell you that I have a Sigmund Freud bobble head, did I?
It's funny, because I also have Buddy Christ, and Siggy is a full 2 inches taller :P

Sigmund can be as involved as he likes!
Oh! Thirteeninchescape...I want a Buddy Christ!
Chambers 09-10-2004, 09:42 PM Sigmund is just going to stare at you guys. That's what he does best, when he's not hitting you with his rubber chicken. It really hurts.

Then I'll try to stay on his good side!

Siggy just likes chicken a lot.
Can the real Sigmund Freud be part of the club too?
ThirteenInchEscape 09-10-2004, 10:21 PM before I got Alice I was always looking for something to do with my hands (I would have silly puddy and stuff like that), so I used to play with my bobbleheads etc (Buddy Christ is actually classified as a dashboard statue)
I dont know if play is really the word I want to use, I guess something to fidget with.
At any rate, his finger is close to breaking off

I don't think Lilith would like that...

True. Then we should have one of those celebrity boxing matches: Lilith vs. Freud.
