Hi all,
I've seen "M*A*S*H's" Halloween episode, "Trick Or Treatment," a thousand times, and I have seen *him* countless times. But, I never put two & two together -- never realized until just this weekend that the drunken injured Marine who tells BJ about how he got hurt crashing into a chicken coop, while racing a jeep backwards . . . was Andrew Dice Clay. Did anyone else *not* notice that? |

I didn't notice either. But I don't know who Clay is (celebrity-wise).

ficlopri,
Andrew Dice Clay, aka "The Diceman," is a controversial, leather-jacketed, cigarette-smoking standup comedian from Brooklyn, who was "banned for life" from MTV for using foul language at one of their award shows, or something like that. He recites -- or did recite -- a lot of original poetry considered offensive by many. He also once caused then-"Saturday Night Live" cast member Nora Dunn to boycott a show simply because *he* was the scheduled guest host. I believe he's been in movies, too. I think he starred in something called "Ford Fairlane." I'm pretty sure that was the name. Later, Art |

Hope you caught George Wendt - then in his first season as Norm Peterson on "Cheers" - as a soldier with a pool ball stuck in his mouth!

Steve,
Of course. That was the same episode. And, years earlier, before "Cheers" had even existed, George's pal Shelley Long was Lt. Mendenhall -- the nurse Hawkeye was dating when he quit drinking for a week. Later, Art |

Ah yes. Many celebs have played wounded soldiers and nurses on M*A*S*H before they became stars...
John Ritter, Patrick Swayze, Joe Pantoliano, Rita Wilson, Teri Garr, Joan Van Ark... Anyone have more to add? |

TJL,
In addition to all the ones you mentioned, how 'bout . . . . Gwen Verdon, Pat Morita, Ron Howard, Jack Soo (the future Nick of "Barney Miller"), Leslie Nielsen, Burt Young (Rocky's future brother-in-law), Blythe Danner, Sorrell Brooke (the future Boss Hogg of "The Dukes Of Hazzard"), Mariette Hartley, George Lindsey, James Cromwell, Alex Karras Ned Beatty, Tom Sullivan, Stafford Repp (the former Chief O'Hara of "Batman"), James Gregory (the future Inspector Luger of "Barney Miller"). Richard Masur, (who seems to have appeared on just about every major show of the '70s), And of course, Robert Alda (Alan's dad) Later, Art |

And don't forget John Ritter as a distraught wounded soldier who holds Frank hostage in the shower!
