which was the funniest charater
I would say Fred by far is one of the reasons why i like S&S alot better than All in the family Archie was dumb Fred was pretty smart when it came down to it Sandford and Son was by Far Norman Lear's best TV Show Archie call Edith a dingbat when he is just as dumb as she is and Archie's fights with Mike where nowhere near as funny as Fred's Fights Where with Esther So in Closing im going to say in a funny man contest the Winner and still champion Fred G Sanford |

well all in the family also had to much filth which Redd Foxx might have been the filthiest man than caroll oconnor but Fred was nowhere near as filthy as Archie

Man, that's a tough choice. I like them both, so I say it's tied.

I agree with Jenny in that I like them both. They were equally funny but in their own way. Archie- for the dumb things that came out of his mouth and the malaprops, Fred- the insults and classic fights with Esther and just about anyone else. Plus both men pronounced toilet in a funny manner: Archie-Terlert, Fred-Towlet

Funniest in my opinion is Fred. Archie sometimes annoys me with his facial expressions. I dont dislike Archie, just think Fred is funnier.

Fred, by far. The few times I watched AITF, Archie got on my nerves.

Hi all,
I think "All In The Family" and "Sanford & Son" had very different audiences. But, some people -- like myself, for instance -- like both. I have loved "Sanford & Son" for years, and still enjoy the reruns almost every night on TVLand, and occasionally on other channels, as well. It was a great show. With all due respect, though, "All In The Family" is legendary, and in a completely different league! Likewise. Fred was funny, but Archie was a one-of-a-kind original character with much more depth. Fred could give you 900 jokes, and about 850 of them would be variations of the same theme -- what name he had come up with by combining the names of two different items he'd mixed together . . . what the G. stands for, depending on the situation he was in at the time. Meanwhile, Archie would be more likely to give you 900 *different* jokes. For 6 years, Fred had a son he thought was a dummy, and a sister-in-law he thought was ugly. Whereas, throughout the run of "All In The Family and "Archie Bunker's Place," Archie was surrounded by, and couldn't get away from, all sorts of people he couldn't stand or understand -- a Polish son-in-law, black neighbors, a transvestite friend, a Puerto Rican boarder, a Jewish business partner, a Catholic cook, a gay waiter, etc. Ultimately, he softened and came to accept all of them, right up to the Jewish niece (by marriage) and the black housekeeper he had in the end. These things were all fuel for a much more complex, diverse and (I think) funnier character. Later, Art P.S. Oh , by the way, I DO like them both, too. |
