When Mariah Carey released her album Daydream in 1995 that started her current R&B sound and based on Mariah Carey's new sound it set the trend for the pop stars to begin using an R&B sound and by using this new sound brought a new style to pop music and this R&B sound also sparked the trend of rap artists guesting on pop stars albums and songs. Take for example when *NSYNC released their self-titled album in 1999 some songs were R&B based but it was until the No Strings Attached album that *NSYNC was indeed showing it's R&B sound and we saw it repeated with *NSYNC's 2001 album Celebrity when Nelly appeared on the remix of the song Girlfriend and the same thing happened when 98 Degrees went for an R&B sound too and had remixes of their songs with rap artists guest starring in them. We also saw the same thing with Stacie Orrico when she debuted on the Christian music scene in 2000 and she was also trying out the new R&B sound with her self-titled album in 2003 and that's when people realized that R&B was indeed the new sound for 2000's pop stars and I think in general that's what made their songs big monster hits. Because when you have producers like Rodney Jerkins Tim "Timbaland" Mosley they made pop stars successful and with rap stars like Missy Elliott Jay-Z and Nelly appearing on pop artists songs remixes they seem to give the pop stars millions of dollars and the remixes of the songs get more airplay on radio stations because of the guest rap artist
