Default So Weird's Ending Was So Dark Disney Made Them Change The Show.

Was So Weird actually too dark for Disney Channel?

Premiering in 1999, So Weird followed Fiona “Fi” Phillips, a teenage paranormal investigator traveling the country with her rock-star mother while searching for ghosts, curses, unexplained phenomena — and answers about her dead father.

It was eerie. Emotional. Surprisingly heavy. And unlike almost anything else Disney Channel was airing at the time.

In this video, we look back at what made So Weird so unforgettable, why its focus on grief gave the series a much darker edge than shows like Goosebumps or Are You Afraid of the Dark?, the ambitious storyline the original creators were building toward, Cara DeLizia’s departure after Season 2, and why the third season felt like a completely different show.

Was Disney uncomfortable with how dark So Weird had become? Did the network deliberately soften the series? And what really happened behind the scenes when Fi disappeared and Annie took over?

Let’s revisit one of the strangest, saddest, and most fascinating shows Disney Channel ever made.

Did you watch So Weird when it originally aired? What episode stuck with you the most? And were you Team Fi or did you enjoy the Annie era too? Let me know in the comments.

Subscribe to Dial-Up Dayz for more deep dives into the forgotten, strange, and surprisingly dark corners of ’80s, ’90s, and early-2000s television and movies.

Dial-Up Days examines the unconventional history of the 1999 Disney Channel series So Weird. The analysis explores how the show departed from the network's typical programming, focusing on its themes of grief, the paranormal, and the behind-the-scenes evolution that altered the series' trajectory over its three-season run.

So now that I got Disney+ I finally got a chance to see one of my favorite shows that honestly ended too soon the TV show called "So Weird"! 👽

It was such a cool dark show for its time, The X-Files of my life! There's simply not enough videos out there about this show! Figured I'd add one more to a list that will (hopefully) grow now that this show is back for the first time on Disney+!! So, did ever get a chance to watch this show? What's your favorite paranormal phenomena? Let me know in the comments down below! I'd love to hear from you!! 🌟🌟🌟

So Weird on Disney Channel was one of my favorite shows growing up. Today, we are re-watching episode one to see how it inspired who I am today!

Were you a fan of the American-Canadian TV show So Weird that aired on Disney Channel from 1999-2003? I certainly was. Each episode featured Fi Phillips, a teenager with her own paranormal website, as she toured the country with her musician family and investigated spooky mysterious occurrences. Today, we're diving into season 1, episode 1, "Family Reunion" which is about a spooky ghost mystery surround the Eastside Ferry Disaster in Chicago.

Today, I’m talking about a paranormal show from my childhood that started my love all things strange, So Weird. I cover Fiona’s passion for fashion & alien hunting, why Jack kinda sucks (but also why we love him), Disney darling Erik Von Detton and why Molly might be one of the best TV moms ever! If you like watching me talk about Disney TV shows and all things pop culture, do me a solid and drop a like on this video. Tell me in the comments your favorite So Weird episode and what else I should cover in my “Best Kept Secrets” series?

A preteen girl travels around the country continually stumbling over supernatural occurrences. Since nobody believes her, she points her finds on her website, "So Weird."

The series was shot in Vancouver, British Columbia. In the first two seasons, the series centered on the teenage Fiona Phillips (Cara DeLizia) who toured with her rock-star mom (Mackenzie Phillips), while encountering paranormal activity along the way. The series was compared to the Fox TV series The X-Files since it took a darker tone than any other Disney Channel show at the time. For the third and final season, Disney replaced DeLizia (due to her wanting to pursue future projects outside of Disney) with actress Alexz Johnson playing Annie Thelen. Production ceased after 65 episodes.

I also, talk about why I feel it is underrated, under-appreciated, and just such an important show by Disney. Lastly, if you want to hear me sing So Weird's opening theme.

I let the fates decide what I'll watch on Disney+ (mostly). Every day a RANDOM number is selected from the internet and it correlates to a movie or TV series currently playing on Disney+. Whatever is picked, I watch it, whether I want to or not!

This is the latest installment in my hopefully long series of short commentaries on everything Disney+ has to offer. Whether anyone cares or not, I've decided to challenge myself to watch every Disney+ movie, documentary, short, and TV series the streaming channel has to offer. I'm already signed up for the next 3 years, so why not?

The quality of the presentation will hopefully improve over the coming days, weeks, and months as I get into a groove and figure out exactly what I'm trying to do here. All I know is that I haven't seen everything Disney has to offer and what I have seen, I haven't seen in a while (unless it's Marvel, Pixar, or Star Wars). There's a lot more classics out there than most of us realize. And a lot of not so great stuff or at least stuff that wasn't really made for me. Mix that with all of the new stuff coming to the streaming channel, and I've got a humongous task in front of me. I hope you'll join me for the ride. Feel free to watch along.

In this video, we explore "So Weird", the most mysterious series Disney Channel launched in the '90s. Join Fiona Phillips, a teenager traveling with her family as she investigates paranormal phenomena, from ghosts and lucid dreams to messages from beyond. Discover why this series became a cult favorite, which episodes shaped an entire generation, and why Disney decided to mute its darker side. Was it too real to be kid-friendly?
