Was So Weird actually too dark for Disney Channel?

Premiering in 1999, So Weird followed Fiona “Fi” Phillips, a teenage paranormal investigator traveling the country with her rock-star mother while searching for ghosts, curses, unexplained phenomena — and answers about her dead father.

It was eerie. Emotional. Surprisingly heavy. And unlike almost anything else Disney Channel was airing at the time.

So now that I got Disney+ I finally got a chance to see one of my favorite shows that honestly ended too soon the TV show called "So Weird"! 👽

It was such a cool dark show for its time, The X-Files of my life! There's simply not enough videos out there about this show! So Weird on Disney Channel was one of my favorite shows growing up. Today, we are re-watching episode one to see how it inspired who I am today!

Were you a fan of the American-Canadian TV show So Weird that aired on Disney Channel from 1999-2003? I certainly was. Each episode featured Fi Phillips, a teenager with her own paranormal website, as she toured the country with her musician family and investigated spooky mysterious occurrences. Today, we're diving into season 1, episode 1, "Family Reunion" which is about a spooky ghost mystery surround the Eastside Ferry Disaster in Chicago.

A preteen girl travels around the country continually stumbling over supernatural occurrences. Since nobody believes her, she points her finds on her website, "So Weird."

The series was shot in Vancouver, British Columbia. In the first two seasons, the series centered on the teenage Fiona Phillips (Cara DeLizia) who toured with her rock-star mom (Mackenzie Phillips), while encountering paranormal activity along the way. The series was compared to the Fox TV series The X-Files since it took a darker tone than any other Disney Channel show at the time. For the third and final season, Disney replaced DeLizia (due to her wanting to pursue future projects outside of Disney) with actress Alexz Johnson playing Annie Thelen. Production ceased after 65 episodes.

I also, talk about why I feel it is underrated, under-appreciated, and just such an important show by Disney. Lastly, if you want to hear me sing So Weird's opening theme.

I let the fates decide what I'll watch on Disney+ (mostly). Every day a RANDOM number is selected from the internet and it correlates to a movie or TV series currently playing on Disney+. Whatever is picked, I watch it, whether I want to or not!

This is the latest installment in my hopefully long series of short commentaries on everything Disney+ has to offer. Whether anyone cares or not, I've decided to challenge myself to watch every Disney+ movie, documentary, short, and TV series the streaming channel has to offer. I'm already signed up for the next 3 years, so why not?

The quality of the presentation will hopefully improve over the coming days, weeks, and months as I get into a groove and figure out exactly what I'm trying to do here. All I know is that I haven't seen everything Disney has to offer and what I have seen, I haven't seen in a while (unless it's Marvel, Pixar, or Star Wars). There's a lot more classics out there than most of us realize. And a lot of not so great stuff or at least stuff that wasn't really made for me.
