A few weeks later, in the same building, CBS told a writer named Gene Roddenberry that they already had their space show, so they did not need his. The pilot that got the yes did not have the Robot. It did not have Dr. Smith. The spacecraft was called the Gemini 12. The music was stolen from three different Bernard Herrmann scores. The villain who became the most quoted character on the show was hired to be killed off, started rewriting his own lines on set, and stole the entire series in six episodes from the lead actor, who eventually moved to Buenos Aires for the rest of his life.
