The same reason that many of her costars did: Money and the series’ instability.

Mitra was one of the “holdovers” from the progenitor series The Practice and as such, she was expected to integrate successfully into the new program. That doesn’t seem to have occurred and after an extended hiatus in the second season Mitra left the program, along with another female actor Monica Potter. Since neither was really “replaced” and since both were a little “nice” about the reasons for the departure, it can be presumed that they were asked to take both pay cuts and receive diminutions of their respective roles.

They chose another course.

The series lost a number of its Practice holdovers during its run as well as shedding a number of serious actors (Craig Bierko for one, who only remained for part of a single season) and that level of turnover is indicative of a troubled work environment. Mitra was/is an attractive actor and so she had options. She exercised them and left the project.
