The original title was The Alley Cats, and the ludicrous premise had three female detectives, Allison, Lee, and Catherine (get it: Al, Lee, Cat), living in alleys and wearing whips and chains! Kate Jackson, who had signed on to star, begged the producers to change the title and rework the premise. She came up with calling the ladies "Angels", so the series was renamed Harry's Angels.
But ABC feared viewers might mistake it as a spin-off or had some connection to their other series, Harry O, which had co-starred Farrah Fawcett-Majors, and changed it to Charlie's Angels. |
