Default Why The Oscars Don’t Work Anymore

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1GqfsoTvD-8

Quote:
Every year, the biggest names in Hollywood gather for the Academy Awards, hoping to take home the most prestigious trophy in the film industry. But what many movie fans don’t realize is that winning an Oscar isn’t just about making the best film.

Behind every major Oscar winner is a carefully crafted awards campaign, a months-long strategy involving screenings, advertising, press tours, and aggressive lobbying aimed directly at members of the Academy.

In fact, the modern Oscar campaign machine was largely shaped by one controversial victory, and it changed the way studios chase Oscars forever.

The Oscars are dead. Back in 1998, almost 60 million people tuned in to watch the ceremony. By 2021, that number dropped to just 9 million. In a world dominated by TikTok and YouTube, Hollywood’s biggest event lost the one thing that actually matters today: our attention. This year, the Oscars are facing their last chance.

The Academy Awards, commonly known as the Oscars, are awards for artistic and technical merit in film. They are presented annually by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) in the United States in recognition of excellence in cinematic achievements, as assessed by the Academy's voting membership. The Oscars are widely considered to be the most prestigious awards in the film industry.

I myself still can't figure out how The Oscars still exist in award shows and I mainly think The Oscars were created to help the movies do well in theaters but if you flashback to when the very first Academy Awards was televised they used to show the Hollywood glamour and the red carpet ceremonies were a treat but if you watch The Oscars today the glamour and excitement is gone and when you get the general picture the movies nominated for Oscars win awards then end up in the bargain movie bins at Walmart or sold at Amazon Prime Day sales and in the Best Animated Movie category Disney movies have rarely won Oscars since Beauty And The Beast was the very first animated movie to be nominated for Best Picture in 1991. And why movies like The Hurt Locker and Precious win Oscars is because they turn the lead actor/actress into a household name and how musicals even get Oscars is beyond me? The only reason why I think The Oscars even score big ratings is due to the fact that most people watch them because they can't find anything worth watching on Sundays. But why every year The Oscars get announced they have turned it into a major event that's a big affair like the Super Bowl or The World Series or the Grammys

The Oscars need an intervention: Conan O’Brien had an “impossible job” with ceremony that was “too produced”

The 98th Academy Awards, held on March 15, 2026, have drawn sharp criticism for a "too produced" telecast that some critics argue requires an "intervention". Despite the production issues, host Conan O’Brien was widely seen as the bright spot in what was described as an "impossible job" due to the show's rigid structure and technical mishaps.
