Default NFL exploring a Thanksgiving Eve game

https://awfulannouncing.com/nfl/expl...xt-season.html

The NFL is reportedly "exploring" scheduling a game for Thanksgiving Eve, the Wednesday prior to the holiday, next season.

When the holidays come around especially when it's Thanksgiving and Christmas people can easily say that Thanksgiving also not only means spending time with friends and family but also football games. Because when it comes to football the two biggest holidays that attract big audiences to football games are New Year's Day and Thanksgiving. But ever since NFL began broadcasting football games on Thanksgiving on NBC and CBS they seem to draw in giant ratings. And so having football on Thanksgiving Eve is a smart thing for NFL to experiment. Because during every Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade every year NBC has banners saying "Give thanks for football excitement as the Las Vegas Raiders take on the Miami Dolphins" or "An NFL Thanksgiving Surprise as the Seattle Seahawks take on the New York Giants" and people seem to think that Thanksgiving and football go so well in the NFL soup. So once they see that a Thanksgiving Eve football game works NFL will most likely do this as a tradition every Thanksgiving Eve

Thanksgiving Eve game? If either NBC, CBS, FOX, ABC or Prime are interested in broadcasting the game then it’s ok.

No, this is stupid. You're giving teams 4 days rest at this point.

First this is a streaming only game, that's for sure. Whether you watch football or don't if you happen to subscribe to the streaming platform that get's this game, prepare to pay more.

The House and Senate need to step in here. The NFL is a monopoly giving back nothing for this privilege, it's a racket pure and simple. It's unconscionable that Congress has not stepped in and passed a bill of rights for the fans and the public at large.

First, all postseason games will be available on an over the air network. No exceptions.

Second, all regular season games that are streamed will also be available over the air to the cities of the home and visiting team.

Third, all stadium construction will be privately funded, no public money

Fourth, An independent commission paid for by a tax on NFL revenue will be formed to review and approve any franchise movement.

If the NFL is unwilling to agree, break it up and end the common draft. Let the NFL operate the way any other business in the entertainment industry operates.

It works if the 2 teams both have a bye the previous Sunday.

The second one happens. Even in the playoffs.

That policy needs to be permanently locked in. I could be wrong but a few years ago I thought there was a Jet game on Thursday night that was on Amazon Prime that did not get televised over the air back to the New York/New Jersey market.

That doesn’t sound familiar to me (since they’ve only been Prime exclusive nationally recently I’m hoping I’d remember) so I say no, but if you want to do some internet sleuthing I’m ready to be corrected.

Speaking of streaming exclusives, I won’t get Yankees opening day because I don’t have Netflix.

The games are spread out all over the place. I remember when the YES network began they carried 150 games, now its around 129. The greed knows no bounds.

And thus….

FCC’s Carr says NFL could lose antitrust protections for shifting games to streaming

Of course “could” is a pretty big word in that headline. The NFL doing it is unpopular and money grabbing, but is it illegal?
