Melissa Gilbert Deletes her Instagram Account Amid Husband Timothy Busfield's Child Sex Abuse Allegations

Melissa Gilbert has deleted her Instagram account amid child sex abuse allegations facing her husband, Timothy Busfield. As of Sunday, Jan. 11, the actress' Instagram page cannot be viewed, and prior posts show error messages.

Social media users who click Gilbert's Instagram account see a message that reads, "Profile isn’t available. The link may be broken, or the profile may have been removed."



Gilbert, 61, deleted her page after the Albuquerque Police Department (APD) issued an arrest warrant alleging that Busfield, 68, engaged in unlawful sexual conduct with two boys on the set of "The Cleaning Lady".

Representatives for both Gilbert and Busfield have not responded to PEOPLE's multiple requests for comment.

After Timothy Busfield surrendered himself to police over alleged child sex abuse claims, his wife, actress Melissa Gilbert, is speaking out about where she stands.

"Melissa stands with and supports her husband and will address the public at an appropriate time," said the actress in a statement provided to People magazine and Us Weekly.



The statements from People magazine and Us Weekly also added that the actress was "not making public statements at this time," and that "any purported 'statements' circulating online — including AI-generated deepfakes of her 'breaking her silence' — should not be treated as coming from her."

According to the statement, Gilbert is "honoring the request" of Busfield's lawyers to refrain from speaking about her husband's case as "the legal process unfolds."



"During this period, her focus is on supporting and caring for their very large family, as they navigate this moment," the statement continued.

"Melissa stands with and supports her husband and will address the public at an appropriate time. We ask that their privacy be respected."

Timothy Busfield's Wife Melissa Gilbert, "thirtysomething" Costars Offer 75 Letters of Support

Timothy Busfield is standing firm in his defense against allegations of child sexual abuse with strong support from his wife, Melissa Gilbert, and his "thirtysomething" cast mates.

In a new filing obtained and reviewed by Entertainment Weekly, Busfield's attorneys hit back at New Mexico's motion to hold him for pretrial detention and provide 75 letters of support for the 68-year-old actor written by Gilbert and his former "thirtysomething" costars Peter Horton and Ken Olin.




In her letter, Gilbert began by identifying herself as Busfield's wife and explaining that they briefly met in the 1980s before falling in love in 2012.

"The reality is that Tim Busfield is my love, my rock, my partner in business and life," she wrote. "He is my comfort and my council. His joy, humor, and quick wit bring sparkle to my life. Tim is, quite simply, the beating heart of our wild and wonderful extended family."

"Tim has the strongest moral compass of any human I have ever known," she continued, in part. "He has dedicated his spiritual self to always being of service to others. He starts every day with kindness and compassion."




She added that on "every single set where Tim is working," she has been approached by "multiple people" who say he is "their favorite director ever."

"Actually, people say that to me in restaurants, on red carpets, and in grocery stores too," she wrote. "His former students tell me he was their favorite teacher ever. I cannot tell you how it has warmed my heart over and over again to hear people, from so many different walks of life, tell me they encountered my husband in some way and he is their favorite. He is my favorite."




"This is the strangest letter I've ever had to write," Gilbert acknowledged.

"I began this letter with logic, but now the feelings have taken over. I can't help it. I only want this extraordinary man safe and whole. So, I will close by asking you to please, please take care of my sweet husband. As he is my protector, I am his, but I cannot protect him now and I think that, more than anything else, is what is truly breaking my heart. I am relying on you to protect him for me."

Melissa Gilbert is thanking her social media supporters for their continued comfort as she supports her husband of 12 years, Timothy Busfield, amid his charges of child sexual abuse.

On Monday, Gilbert took to the Modern Prairie social media account to send a message to fans days after she sat in on Busfield's pre-trial detention hearing last Tuesday.




"I'm sending you all my love and gratitude during this extraordinarily difficult time," Gilbert wrote in her message. "Not only for Tim, me and our family, but in the collective heaviness so many of us seem to be carrying right now. Add an unexpected storm to the mix, and it can all feel like a bit too much."

"This season has reminded me, very clearly, how important it is to slow down, prioritize what truly matters, and allow ourselves moments of rest. Stepping back from the noise, the news, and even our daily responsibilities from time to time gives us space to recharge, reflect, and find our center again."



Gilbert thanked her fans for their "love, patience, and support," sharing her gratitude for them "helping me to feel safer, more grounded, and deeply held by this extraordinary community of women here at Modern Prairie."
