Would a TV Show Continue if the Second Lead Murdered the Creator of the Series?

Brian asks his readers if they think that a TV show would keep airing if the secondary lead murdered the creator of the series.



I wonder what everyone thinks about whether it is realistic to expect that a TV series would continue after the second lead of the series murdered the creator of the series?

In the most recent episode of Elsbeth (now in its 3rd season), “And Then There Were Nuns,” we learned that the TV series, Father Crime, which was introduced in Season 2, is still running. The long-running crime drama was about a priest who helps a cop solve crimes. They had a “Will they or won’t they” romantic subplot going throughout the series.

The actor who played the cop, though (played by Laurie Metcalf), wanted to take a break from the show to play Lady MacBeth in a London theater production of MacBeth, and the executive producer/creator of the show wouldn’t let her go, so she murdered him.

As it turned out, he was trying to protect her from herself, as she has a terrible British accent.

In any event, Elsbeth, of course, proved that she was the murderer, but a season later, we see that the priest is working with a NEW cop (who is ALSO in love with him).

So, what do you folks think? If the secondary lead actor on a TV show murdered the creator of the show, but the STAR of the show (and the character the show was built around) was still around, would the show actually continue?

I tend to think yes, actually, as you could see the argument of “Why should these people all lose their jobs because of this murderer?” But what do you all think?
