What separated Fox from The WB and UPN? - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

Why was The Fox network a success and the WB and UPN failed? Did Fox do anything particularly better or more correctly that UPN and The WB did wrong? Was it just timing, was it luck?

FOX was available over the air everywhere. In Fort Wayne the WB and UPN were only cable channels until the change to digital TV.

Fox has The NFL Coverage every football season, Both UPN & The WB weren’t

In my future home area, the WB was on the now defunct WNfm which was a cable only station while UPN was on a broadcast station. I guess my area wanted a WB station to call their own even though they had WGN which carried WB programming until 1999 something that UPN didn’t do with one of their affiliates which had a National feed, WWOR. That hurt UPN.
