Stephanie Beacham talks about playing 'Sable Colby' in new interview

The actress, 78, sat down for an interview about a month ago with Lewis Nicholls. She talks about being Sable Colby on both The Colbys and Dynasty in the late 1980s.



Highlights about The Colbys and Dynasty:

Beacham was offered the role when the American actress they had lined up (rumored to be Angie Dickinson, who was originally offered the role of Krystle in 1980) wanted way too much money.

When she joined The Colbys, Joan Collins didn't care because she was the star of Dynasty. But when The Colby's ended, Beacham was offered to go to Dynasty in the same role she played on The Colbys, which didn't sit well with Collins - she wanted to be the only British actress on the show.

They needed Beacham to transition over, so Alexis would have someone to constantly fight with. Linda Evans, Diahann Carroll, and Kate O'Mara had already left the show - so Beacham was asked to join to fill the void. There was a stipulation in her contract - she could never wear red or black; those were Collins' colors on the show.

She says she and Collins are still friends to this day and stayed in touch after all these years- but they're not 'close friends' as they each have different interests. Collins enjoys spending her free time sitting at the most popular table in the most popular restaurant, while Beacham rather spend her free time out on the beach barefoot walking through the sand.
