40 years ago this week, Howard Cosell made his final broadcast for ABC Sports
On September 29, 1985, Howard Cosell along with Al Michaels and Jim Palmer, called a Major League Baseball game in Minneapolis, Minnesota between the Kansas City Royals and Minnesota Twins from the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome. This turned out to be the Cosell's last ever assignment as a broadcaster for ABC Sports, having worked there since 1953.
Cosell was originally scheduled to be in the booth for ABC's then forthcoming World Series coverage in 1985. But due to the controversy stemming from his book, I Never Played the Game, he was replaced at practically the last minute by Tim McCarver.
