This is an old article. The Pittsburgh Press ceased to exist since about 1990. It sounds like this is from when it was revamped for syndication. Vicki has stated she made them change scripts a few times. There was a script where Mama sleeps with Carl's brother but Vicki protested and told writers that would never happen and the script was changed. The episode then was when Carl's brother shows up for his birthday only to find out he has been dead for 8 years. Vicki had an issue with the episode where Iola freeze dries her cat but the writers won that battle and the script stayed. The one episode that had a weird ending that should have been changed was "Ellen's Boyfriend." Its revealed in the end that Mama is jealous of Ellen's younger boyfriend. I always found that odd and something Mama would never be.
