From it's humble beginning in the 90's New Line Cinema was gonna be a studio with a mission and that mission was making successful movies that would be guaranteed blockbuster hits. And starting with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series of films they were hits and paved the way for New Line Cinema to produce movies that became hits. And it continued with The Mask and other movies. But it wasn't until Austin Powers debuted that New Line Cinema became huge and when Austin Powers debuted in theaters it broke records for New Line Cinema so much that they expanded the Austin Powers trilogy with the two Austin Powers sequels. But I think why New Line Cinema went downhill was because they hadn't come up with successful movies and the only other movie that was successful was The Lord Of The Rings and just like Austin Powers they made sequels to Lord Of The Rings as well. Because in their eyes New Line Cinema saw sequels as a way to make more money and comedies were hits in their eyes. But I wouldn't be surprised if New Line Cinema files for bankruptcy in the coming years
