When you get the general picture out of all the singers that could've gone big if they had lived I would have to say that Selena fits that bill. Because Selena had talent good looks and marvelous fashion sense and I think if she was still alive today Selena would've been big in the English language market and they would've compared her to Madonna or Paula Abdul or Jody Watley. But I think when Selena was starting out Selena's parents had dreams of their daughter making it big in the Spanish language market and if you read countless biographies of Selena Selena's father's dream was simply to market the family as a band similar to the Osmonds Jackson 5 and The Partridge Family and by using Selena as the lead singer Selena's father knew that she was his ticket to fortune. But if you look at today's Spanish language singers such as Thalia and Enrique Iglesias you know when they crossover into the English language market you know that's where they make the most money in music and that's what Selena was planning and hoping to do. But the one thing that still puzzles me is how Selena's father decided to open a Mexican restaurant when he had no expertise in the restaurant industry and I think he mainly had that restaurant so the band could provide entertainment for the restaurant as a way to get money. But I think why the legacy of Selena has become popular since her death in 1995 is because they want to get the new generation of music fans interested in her music and to sell more Selena merchandise. Because even though she's no longer living she is an icon like Michael Jackson and Elvis

But if Selena was killed 30 years ago, how are Only Murders in the Building and the Wizards of Waverly Place franchise such successes?

I heard a story that Corpus Christi Texas was gonna build a Selena museum and I wonder what became of it? According to what I read this museum was gonna feature artifacts and have tour guides tell fans all about Selena and her music. I also heard that there was a guy that had a traveling Selena museum and he had started it after he bought Selena's first tour bus and he transformed it into a mini Selena museum and planned to go on a tour around Texas showing tourists this traveling Selena museum. Did anyone ever hear these two stories?

I also think why Selena's father was interested in starting a family band was because this was supposed to be a family hobby and in my eyes that's why he wanted to have his restaurant so the band could play in the restaurant for entertainment. But as you watched the movie Selena if you ever seen it you'll learn why Selena's mother didn't approve of Selena and the kids getting famous because as the movie tells you Selena's mother had this phobia of the kids becoming friends with strangers and it seemed that all she wanted was for Selena and her brother and sister to grow up happy in a nice safe neighborhood. And after Selena's father closed his restaurant the family had to live with relatives to make ends meet. Another thing I cannot figure out is why Selena met her husband Chris Perez and her father got him the job as the band's guitarist without knowing about his past? But it seemed that they were crushes and that's why they got married. But Selena would've been better with Pete Astrudillo because he was her duet partner and they sang many duets together and they were a wonderful pair when doing duets in the Spanish language. My mom and I became Selena fans because my grandmother was a huge Selena fan and got my aunt to like her songs too. And my aunt also got to see the Selena boutique in San Antonio but she didn't shop there because it was closed at the time too

Could anything have prevented the demise of the singer Selena?

Quote:
Question: Could anything have prevented the demise of the singer Selena?

Any number of things, although hindsight is always 20/20.

Let’s see:
  1. Yolanda Saldivar should have never been hired for the fan club - She had no experience in that area, she was secretive and moody, and the Quintanilla’s didn’t bother doing any sort of background check on her. Basically they put an embezzler in charge of funds, and then they were shocked when she embezzled from them.
  2. They should have allowed the police and their attorneys handle the matter - It’s clear that the fan club was being used to generate tax-free cash and the Quintanillas were not paying what they owed. Regardless of that, when it was clear that money was missing, they needed to let professionals handle the matter and kept themselves away from things.
  3. Selena should have had no involvement in the matter at all - Besides being their meal ticket, the Quintanillas didn’t need her brand damaged by anything to do with embezzlement or tax fraud. Even if her father and husband didn’t understand the matter very well, they shouldn’t have allowed the person who was earning the money to be anywhere near the problem.
  4. Selena should have had no involvement in the matter at all #2 - It was the height of idiocy to send Selena alone to deal with Saldivar. Selena wasn’t a tall woman or even an intimidating one. There was almost nothing she could have done had Saldivar simply ignored her and it was pointless to even meet with Saldivar unless they had proof that she brought the financial records or money...or both. Again Selena was the “golden goose” and keeping her safe should have been the priority.
  5. There was no need to meet Saldivar at a location where SHE felt “safe” - Having her meet them at their attorneys office, or even at their home, would have made her uneasy and potentially far less likely to have brought a weapon, as she could been searched or required to leave her handbag in her vehicle. Driving to meet her was not only dangerous but was obviously a waste of time since it was improbable that she had the records with her at a motel.

Basically everything that could have been done wrong, was done wrong, and Selena’s death was the result.

Selena Fans Mark 31 Years Since Her Death With Tributes Across Texas

Quote:
More than 30 years after the murder of Selena Quintanilla-Pérez, fans across Texas and beyond marked the anniversary on Tuesday, March 31, with tributes, memorials, and renewed attention on the singer’s enduring legacy.

According to People, social media was filled with clips of Selena’s performances, photos from vigils in Corpus Christi, and messages from fans who continue to celebrate the late star decades after her death.

The anniversary arrives one year after the woman convicted of killing Selena, Yolanda Saldívar, was denied parole. Saldívar, who was sentenced to life in prison in 1995, became eligible for release in 2025 after serving 30 years. Texas officials denied her request on March 27, 2025, ensuring she will remain incarcerated until at least her next parole hearing in 2030.

Selena was killed on March 31, 1995, after meeting Saldívar at a motel in Corpus Christi to retrieve business records linked to Selena’s fan club and clothing boutiques. Saldívar had recently been removed from her role after Selena and her family accused her of mishandling money.

During the confrontation, Selena was shot and later died at a nearby hospital. She was 23 years old, just weeks away from her 24th birthday.

Even in her final moments, Selena helped identify her attacker. According to testimony and police records, the singer made it to the motel lobby after being shot and told staff, “Yolanda ... 158,” identifying both Saldívar and the room number before collapsing.

Witnesses also recalled Selena yelling, “Lock the door! She’ll shoot me again!” as employees called 911.

For many fans, the anniversary is not only about revisiting the tragedy but also recognizing how Selena’s influence has only grown.
