My God, the writer of this piece did no research whatsoever! The Trapper John character from this TV series Trapper John MD is based on the character from the movie MASH. Trapper John in the film was played by Elliot Gould, so Pernell Roberts is an older version of the characterization developed by Elliot Gould. Gene Reynolds and Larry Gelbart sued the production company for royalties and they lost.
