"Scrubs" Reboot Forges Ahead: Bill Lawrence Set, Talks with Cast Begin for Follow-up at ABC

The long-rumored "Scrubs" reboot is getting closer to reality. The project is now officially in development at ABC from 20th Television after overcoming the main hurdle, securing the involvement of series creator/executive producer Bill Lawrence.

With Lawrence on board, 20th TV is moving in to secure the main original cast that includes Zach Braff, Sarah Chalke, Donald Faison and John C. McGinley.

There have been question marks around original cast member Judy Reyes who left the medical comedy ahead of its final season. According to sources, her character, no-nonsense nurse Carla Espinosa, is factored into early plans for the reboot.

The participation of Reyes, who is a series regular on ABC/20th TV breakout new drama series "High Potential", remains uncertain though sources indicate she could potentially do both

I've wanted to see a revival of Scrubs ever since Zach Braff & Donald Faison started doing those commercials for T-Mobile. I don't think the article mentioned Neil Flynn returning as The Janitor. Not sure if he has been in a project since The Middle ended. Always loved this show & would certainly tune into a reboot.

Bill Lawrence on "Scrubs" Reboot: The Writers’ Room is Coming Together Very Soon

Prolific comedy writer Bill Lawrence gave an update on where his reboot of “Scrubs” is in the development stage while speaking with Variety on the Writers Guild Awards red carpet Saturday in New York.

“Well first thing is, on an interview, asking my wife if she’ll do the show whenever she has time,” Lawrence said while standing next to his wife, “Scrubs” alum Christa Miller.

Lucky for Lawrence, Miller replied: “Of course.”

He went on to say: “We’re in the process of, the cool thing, putting the writers together. And it’s the best thing in the world to see that some of the most talented writers in the world wrote on that show and they’re all still friends, and my friends.

And so [we] have a combination of the old and new. We’re just starting to build it right now. And I expect it to make an appearance very soon.”
