"The Equalizer" Spin-off with 2 Co-Leads Eyed at CBS

"The Equalizer" is the latest hit CBS series to explore a spin-off. The Queen Latifah crime drama will introduce two new characters in Episode 516 this season that could anchor their own series, sources tell Deadline.

Casting is underway for the roles: a skilled younger female martial artist, weapons expert and criminologist with a secret origin story who turns to McCall (Queen Latifah) for help, and an older male former top CIA operative. (It is unclear whether he and McCall know each other from their time at the agency.)

Both are guest-star roles with series regular options aimed at the potential spin-off.

Titus Welliver & Juani Feliz to Headline Potential "The Equalizer" Spinoff for CBS

Titus Welliver (Bosch) and Juani Feliz (Harlem) have been tapped as the two leads of CBS‘ potential spinoff from "The Equalizer".

Both have been cast as guest stars with series regular options for the potential spinoff.

Welliver will play Hudson Reed, a former top CIA operative with a dark secret who is connected to Robin McCall (Queen Latifah) by an old mentor.

Feliz plays Samantha Reed who has been trained by her father to be a weapons expert, skilled martial artist and true chameleon all while hiding a mysterious past.

CBS' Titus Welliver-led The Equalizer spinoff is dead — The Equalizer's fate is still up in the air

The proposed spinoff, also starring Juani Feliz, that aired last Sunday as a backdoor pilot, will no longer move forward. "That leaves bubble drama The Equalizer, starring and executive produced by Queen Latifah, as the only remaining CBS scripted title — pilot or series — yet to learn its fate for next season," according to Deadline's Nellie Andreeva. "As Deadline reported, there is still chance for the series to snag a pickup for what could be a 13-episode sixth and final season. Its odds are considered 50-50 but the fact that talks with producing studio Universal Television are continuing is a promising sign. CBS swiftly canceled the studio’s two FBI spinoffs, Most Wanted and International, a month and a half ago."
