Deadline understands that the NBCU streamer beat out Netflix to land a new adaptation of the high school football series in a competitive battle that has played out over the last few days.

Connie Britton Says Peacock’s "Friday Night Lights" Reboot is “Barely on her Radar”

In a new interview with Parade, Connie Britton said the "Friday Night Lights" reboot is “barely on her radar,” but she shared her hopes for the new cast to find a “sense of discovery there in terms of what they’re committing to and trying to accomplish.”

Reflecting on her time on the drama series, Britton said she almost didn’t take on the role after having a small part in the 2004 movie directed by Peter Berg.

“In the film, there was very little for me to do and even less so by the time it came out — whatever I had done was mostly on the cutting-room floor,” Britton told the publication.

“And so when the TV show came around, I said, ‘No, thank you.’ I was really hoping for something more for myself than playing sort of the fly-on-the-wall wife character in a football show.”

However, Berg was “very persuasive” and ultimately convinced Britton to take on the role saying, “I really have to say, I worked pretty tirelessly with Pete, but then also with Jason Katims, who came in to run the show, really sort of standing up for the woman’s voice in that community, in that world.”

Minka Kelly on Whether she Might Reprise her "Friday Night Lights" Role in Peacock’s Reboot

"Friday Night Lights" star Minka Kelly does not have plans to participate in Peacock’s reboot of the famous football series.

While discussing her upcoming Netflix series "Ransom Canyon", in which she stars alongside Josh Duhamel, Kelly seemed to indicate an unlikely return to Dillon, Texas, to reprise her role.

“I think it’s always best leaving people — if even they do — wanting more. I think leaving that where it was is probably the right thing to do,” Kelly told Deadline. “Maybe too much sometimes is too much. I don’t know that they need more Lyla.”

Scott Porter Would “Love To Stop By” Peacock’s "Friday Night Lights" Reboot “Only If It Serves the Story”

"Friday Night Lights" alum Scott Porter is open to revisiting the show’s universe in Peacock’s reboot, but he also acknowledges that his character had a great conclusion in the original series.

“I love the way that Jason Street’s story ended. I think his final couple of scenes with Tim [Riggins] in New York tell you everything you need to know,” Porter told Deadline. “That’s a friendship that will never die, that will always exist. Doesn’t matter, across state lines, anywhere throughout the world, but Jason got out of Dillon in spite of this catastrophic injury.”

“I loved my time on Friday Night Lights, and I would 100% go back, but only if it serves the story. I trust Pete Berg and Jason Katims and everyone involved that this next chapter of Friday Night Lights is going to be just as special, if not more than what we were able to do,” Porter added.

“I’m looking forward to watching it as a fan, and if they want me back, yeah, I’d love to stop by and say, ‘Texas forever’ once again.”
