Default Janet getting married

I don't get how Janet got married to Phillip that quick. Were they dating for awhile, was he in other episodes where she dated him? Did he just ask her out of the blue to marry her? I don't remember seeing her dating him or anyone long enough for her to marry someone quick.

She got married quick because the show was ending. It was decided this would be a great way to end the show where Janet gets married and the apartment comes to an end.
In reality of course it would not make sense. But in the sitcom world its their reality.

The whole "Janet getting married" thing was simply a quick and cheap plot device to write her out of the series by the time that it was reconfigured as Three's a Crowd. Then, there would be a convenient excuse to explain why Jack was no longer living with Janet. Why would Janet still be living with Jack if she's now married to another man?

More importantly, why did they marry Janet off to Philip, whose first impression of Janet was that she was a gold digger?

This episode was just on Antenna TV last night and something hit me. We never got to see Janet's proposal. They announce her engagement while Jack is in the kitchen. It just shows how second fiddle the girls played to Jack at the point in the series. Seriously, Teri and Janet are eating in the kitchen and Jack comes in. Teri says, Janet has something to say. Janet says "me and Phillip are getting married."
Not only did Phillip think Janet was a gold digger. But we never see him propose to Janet. This was just all a set up for Threes A Crowd.

Its a common complaint that Janet's parents were not at the wedding. But I watched the final last night and the show points out why they were not there. Mr Furley says its a shame Janet's parents could not make the wedding. Janet wanted a church wedding but Phillip did not want to wait months for a church reservation. It was a wedding thrown together in a day or two. Terri tells Furley that immediately after the wedding they are going to Janet's parent house to spend time with them.
