I saw this episode tonight for the first time! What a classic! It's just a typical thing that Beaver would do! Well, I don't mean that it's typical he would crawl up in a giant bowl of soup, be he does get into mischief. Also, what's with this show and them making Beaver's friend's parents be so old! First Larry's mom looks like 60 and now Whitey's parents look like his grandparents. I loved the quote Ward told Beaver at the end of the show. I'm putting that for my new signature here. Do I have it worded the exact way? I can't really remember it perfectly.

That is a classic Ward quote. I love this episode too! It's so funny! I especially love it when Eddie comes to get Wally because some "dumb kid got himself stuck in the bowl of soup" and when they leave June stops and wonders if it could be beaver, but decides "No, it couldn't be, he's over at Whitey's" LOL!

HEY!! i was gonna say that!! haha!!! i just LAUGHED my butt off when she said that!!!

I feel that this episode is SOOOO Funny, i mean, alls i could do was laugh and laugh and laugh, did they cut out the part where june finds out that it WAS beaver in the soup?? because all of a sudden she's asking wally if ward got beaver from whitey's house. And yea, i agree about everyone else's parents being so old! that was the first thing that popped into my head when i saw whitey's parents. I also noticed that most of the kids have the same starting letter for their first and last name, it used to be gilbert gates, and there's harry henderson, whitey whitney, and a buncha others, isn't htat odd???

This is kind of off topic, but about Gilbert. He has had 3 last names on this show. When he moves into town, he's Gilbert GATES, then he kind of evolves into Gilbert BATES, then on the ep "The Dramatic Club" Miss Landers calls him Gilbert HARRISON....Harrison???Where did that come from?

When I saw Whitey's parents I thought WHAT???

They looked like Grandparents...

My favorite part was the ending.... When the little boy ran over to Beaver and asked for his autograph.

If by that you mean why isn't Larry in the later episodes of the show, the answer is... His family moved to New Jersey during the original run of the show, so he (unfortunately) had to leave the cast...

Larry was my favorite of Beaver's friends...and considering all they went through together, I'm sure that when a grown up Beaver looks back on his childhood in Mayfield, he probably considers Larry to be the best friend he ever had.

I too think one of the funniest parts of this episode was the kid running up to Beaver asking for his autograph. Just hilarious! It was that kind of writing that made these shows so classic.

I've always wondered about the older parents - Larry's mother definitely looks like his grandmother.

Speaking of age, I didn't know until the other day that Hugh Beaumont was 48 when the show started.

Rusty Stevens (Larry) left the show in 1960, during the third season. Then, Whitey's and Richard's roles were made bigger, and the responsibility of getting Beaver into trouble fell on them . . . and also on Gilbert, who had arrived on the show a year earlier.

Evidently when considering actors for casting, age was not a high priority. If it were, they probably would have found a couple closer in age than the 11 years difference if Hugh Beaumont and Barbara Billingsley. It seem that first 'Ward' on the first pilot was younger, but maybe test audiences didn't like him, so the new search landed Beaumont-- who may have been older, but much better for the role.

It is interesting that many of Beaver's friends mention brothers or sisters much older than they are. Larry and Whitey, at least, had married siblings and they were uncles by about 9 years of age. Perhaps that's part of the baby boom generation. When the war was over, women wanted to be mothers again, even if they already had a couple or more kids.

I had never seen this episode before tonight. I guess Gilbert's last name is just another one of those little "inconsistencies." I think he was called Gilbert BATES the most wasn't he?

I grew up in the 1960s, and definitely fit into that "baby boom generation" you described. My brother is 15 years older than me, and he made me an uncle when I was 11.

Strangely, though, I don't think I had a friend, when I was growing up, who had an *older* sibling. Everybody I knew seemed to have little brothers or sisters.
