Warner Brothers will keep saying it is not dead, but the majority of chanel programming is now just adult swim.

I think I’ve held my tongue long enough. Animation, along with the people behind them deserve to be treated fairly. Animation matters and hopefully this video explains why

Cartoon Network was once considered by many to be the best cartoon channel out of the bunch, with many of their shows being considered classics and are adored by fans across the world to this day. However, with the recent shake-ups at Warner Brothers following their recent merger with Discovery, Cartoon Network has been struggling throughout the 2020s. Today, I wanted to go over all the reasons that have contributed to the steep decline of Cartoon Network as a channel and as a brand, and why the rest of the animation industry could succumb to the same fate.

Chapters:

  • 2:29 - Lack of new IPs and Original Programming
  • 6:48 - Death of the Brand

Cartoon Network is officially in a brand new dark age as the end of Craig of the Creek marks the end of Cartoon Network Studios originals has a whole, with everything in production being spin-offs or adaptations of existing shows and media. (Adventure Time Side Quests, Fionna and Cake, BMO, Regular Show the Lost Tapes, Gumball, etc.) As if that wasn't bad enough, there are a ton of shorts/pilots for shows that will NEVER be released, as Warner Bros Discovery seems to have turned their back on the Cartoon Cartoons shorts program, despite marketing it heavily in the early 2020s. Can Cartoon Network be saved from these dark ages? Can these shorts ever be released? Let's talk about it!

  • 0:50 - The New Dark Age
  • 6:20 - It's Worse Than You Think

In 2009, Cartoon Network hit rock bottom and decided to make cheap live-action shows via CN Real instead of cartoons. What followed would be the most infamous year of the company's history...

The Slow, Sad Death Of Cartoon Network

It's hard not to notice Cartoon Network's steady decline, going from its heyday in the 90s and 2000s to its struggles in the streaming era.

Cartoon Network launched in 1992 and spent 30 years producing some of the most original animation in television history. Batman: The Animated Series. Samurai Jack. Adventure Time. Infinity Train. Then in the summer of 2022, the company that owned all of it started deleting its own shows — not cancelling them, deleting them — wiping YouTube channels, pulling soundtracks from Spotify, scrubbing the Twitter archives. This video breaks down the $85 billion merger that made it possible, the tax law that made deletion more profitable than streaming, and why 20 animated shows became line items on a write-off report.
