Which TV actor/actress who failed in TV shows got huge success in movies?

In 1990, NBC decided to make a TV series based on the hit 1988 movie Working Girl. They had enough confidence that they placed it on Mondays before Hunter. But facing MacGyver and the final season of Newhart would prove to be too much for it and it got pulled in 8 weeks before being cancelled.

It featured several actors who you know went on to better things later on. David Schramm who played Tess’s father would find success on Wings that fall. Nana Visitor who was Tess’s boss would find greater success in a couple of years with Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. George Newbern who played Tess’s co-worker Everett would work steadily in film and TV, but his greatest success wouldn’t occur for two decades until Scandal broke out in 2012.

As for the lead, apparently it was supposed to go to TV veteran Nancy McKeon (The Facts of Life). But for whatever reason, it didn’t work out. So they went with an actress who had a couple of films and small TV roles to her credit.

Her name? Sandra Bullock



TV didn’t quite work out for her. But a few years later, she found success in films with Speed and While You Were Sleeping. And the rest was history.
